Oxymorphone compared to oxycontin

Common Questions and Answers about Oxymorphone compared to oxycontin

opana

I have built up a tolerance to oxycodone IR that I have had to take 3 times my dose just to get my pain to get down to a moderate level. The research I have done is that oxymorphone is stronger and less mg. I have several questions. Are taking less mg easier on the body? How do I ask my doctor to switch, I don't want to seem like just another patient trying to get high.
I just switched to 10 mg Opana ER from 30 mg Oxycotin 2x daily. I also take 8 Norco for breakthrough pain. Severe lower back pain. Seems to that the Opana doesn't have enough "lift" compared to OC. Is it the dosage or structure of the drug ? Doc said to give it 2 weeks to compare. Have had constipation issues with the oxycodone. Seem a little more tired with the Opana as well.
were willing to prescribe anything. I was shooting up 40 mg @ 20 mg of oxycontin [oxymorphone] And 65 mg of methadone.I flew to the East coast to get rapid detox .
Oxycontin.- While awaiting the scan results I was given oxycontin for pain relief, this seemed to do the trick for 2 weeks, 10mg 2x a day, then things hurt again so up the dose went 20mg 2x a day, then 40mg 2x a day, then 80mg 2x a day and up to 120mg 2x a day, recognise the scenereo anyone??..
i think the pharacist meant why is your doc prescribing oxymorphone(opana) instead of oxycontin SR. oxycontin doesn't have other meds in it like percoset(which has oxycodone and an anti-inflammitory in it). the reason your doc might not prescribe oxycontin might be because of the widespread abuse of oxycontin. people who abuse oxycodone prefer oxycontin because it does not have the anti-inflammitory in it(so they can take more w/o ruining the stomach).
It is oxymorphone. I plan to take my first dose tomorrow morning and I'll let you know how well it works for me. Maybe that is a medicine you could ask your doctor about. It actually says on the company website that it lasts a true 12 hours versus 8 hours like morphine and oxycontin. It has some new TIMERx technology built into it. I agree that the volteran gel is only one piece to the puzzle. I know it wouldn't be working as well if I weren't taking opioid medications.
I am addicted to Oxycontin (REAL Oxycontin, not the half-strength 'OP' things you get in the US which I was sent by a friend in a time of great need; they also have awful GI side effects that the oxy everybody else gets do not initiate), have been for years and you know - I could not care less.
Yet I still feel the pain coming on stronger the longer it has been since my last meds. The withdrawls have been a cake walk compared to any other time. I actually asked for something from my doc. He gave me some valium. It has seemed to help. It is definitely the L-Lysine that is the best from the research I have done. The mental ride sucks but I know when I get back to the station to get off, IT IS GOING TO BE THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD.
what i would do with the amount of oxymorphone you were taking is switch to suboxone from subutex. subutex is generally only used in the induction phase of sub treatment and then switched to suboxone(which is the same drug except having naltrexone in it- 8mgs buprenorphine to 2mg naltrexone ratio per pill).
Dihydrocodeine Bitartarate (Contugesic or codicontin) is marketed as Europe's answer to oxycontin. The strength there is 30 mg to 120 (!) mg whereas Synalgos and DHCplus are both 16 mg., far too low for effective pain control. Also codeine doesn't work for everyone. I find Contugesic in the 60 mg - 90 mg range one q6h to control my arthritis pain very effectively especially when a NSAID is added. Unfortunately the medication is not available in the USA. Hope this helps.
I sure hope you are all having a nice Holiday. Welcome to the room those who are new. Thank you so much for finding us. I know you can do this!
find outso we can research it more... also i guess all opana is extended release? kind of like percocets compared to oxycontin...they say to make sure you swallow whole...do not crush or chew and has to be taken on empty stomach..1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals... also said dose is 1 tablet every 12 hours...do your research on this, i dont think i have ever heard of it...never know though i probably took it at 1 point and dont even know it LOL!!
My DOC is Tramadol and from what I've read on this board my drug is a walk in the park compared with the Oxycontin some here are addicted to. However, I don't judge what other people choose to ingest in their own bodies and I will never do any more than share my own story and own experience within my own skin.
I had a habit of 80-120 mg of Methadone and also about 20mg of xanax per day about 2 years ago. I became addicted to oxycontin after a sports injury to my back when I was 18. I had 2 seizures from the benzodiazipine w/d's and went into rapid detox w revia. Those 3 days on rapid detox were the most paiful of my life. I was given librium so I would not go into covulsions during my detox, then spent 60 days in rehab.
It has just affected every aspect of my life. ANyhow, my question to you is as an engineer how do you feel the percocet affects you compared to the tramadol or Vicodin? I have taken it in the past, but I did not work on it??? I believe I can work as long as I have a "clear head" which I wonder if that is even possible? I hide the pain quite well, but I need to sit down with my superviser and talk about this. I will not jepordize my job. So this MMJ?
Hi Tramadol Warriors! A new thread. New Day. New chance to take your life back. Welcome ....
It is now widely available and you will have no trouble finding someone who will sell you on the a program. It is expensive even compared to methadone. I think that 3-6 months on subutex will save you a lot of miserable days and nights. I kicked a 100mg a day methadone habit cold 25 years ago. It is something I would never do again. It is my understanding that even a slow taper with methadone is difficult. You have reason to be proud.
I have a LONG way to go which Is why I finally decided to post. 3 days is NOTHING compared to the 8 months I was on them. I still feel awful and am wondering when this will go away. Like a bad flu almost but I know the Ativan are helping. I only have those for 10 days though so I hope it gets better soon. Will I ever have that feeling of well being again without vicodin? I took 2 and knew my life was fine everything was fine..LOL now I am not so sure and I am scared!
I wish I would have stayed on just long enough to get the H and oxycontin craving out of my mind set. As to mixing methadone and benzo I am definately guilty but I have been doing that een when I was not on methadone but oxys and H of course I tended to nod out at very inappropriate moments. In any case it is always dangerous to mix two cns depressants anyone who knows anything could tell you that. One last thing get off the methadone asap otherwise you will become a slave to it.
Long story short, I ended up finding another detox location closer to my home to go through instead of the one I went to yesterday. The med office wanted me to come in on a daily basis to get my dose for the day. Mind you, I paid, up front for the pills. I got my prescription filled, then decided that I didn't want to do it that way, and came home with my prescription. I don't need anyone writing saying that the docs do that for safety, blah blah blah. I know this.
