oxycontin vs norco

Iv been on opiates since iv been 11 started with 10mg norco (which is vicodin with 325 tylonal) and started taking it 3 times a day and was up to the point where i was taking 12 a day, then i was taking 10mg percs, moved up to 15 mg roxies then they added 30mg oxycontins 3 times a day, then i desided to try and taper myself off pain meds completely at age 15 because it was scary and my tollerance was just to high.

My Dr. changed my prescription from Lorcet to Norco because Norco has less Acetaminophen in it. He is concerned because of my liver (another story for another day). Since changing to Norco my intake has doubled and has me concerned. I know they both have same amount of hydrocodone but does Lorcet work longer because of the Acetaminophen? Does the Acetaminophen slower the disribution of hydrocodone? The Norco seems to work faster but the Lorcet seems to work longer. Any input?

Norco is better than most because it only has 325 of Tylenol Vs. 500 or 650. To my knowledge hydrocodone which is the narcotic agent in Norco (I take it too) does not come in a tablet all on it's own. In order to get rid of the Tylenol you have to move up to the drug oxycodone which is in drugs like Percocet they make oxycodone tabs without Tylenol. Question is why are you so worried about your liver? Is your liver already compromised?

Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if Norco, 10-325 is easier to withdraw from than Oxycontin 80mg. My friend was taking 2 oxycontin 80mg a day and told her doctor ( they were not prescribed) and she told the doctor that the only thing stopping her from quitting oxycontin was the horrible withdrawals. He put her on Norco and told her to wean down with those, and that going cold turkey off Norcos ( once she's weaned down to 5 a day) is easier than w/d from oxycontin.

My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there??? I have an appointment to see my pain doctor next week, but would like to have some additional info when I go in to see him.

t know, Percocet contains tylenol and oxycodone in immediate release form similar to the norco you take but much stronger. And Oxycontin is oxycodone in extended release form. There are also other long acting meds beside Oxycontin that you could look into such as Oxymorphone (Opana), Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), and Fentanyl which all have a potency that is greater than morphine. My appointment is Jan 3rd, I will let you know how it goes.

For a while my Pain doctor had my oxycontin and norco, but took me off the oxycontin and left me on the norco even though I have told him the norco ( 8- 10/325mg a day) is not working any more. I go in next week and see a different pain doctor who works directly with the neuro surgeon next week to learn more about the pain pump, the neuro surgeon feels I am a candidate for the pump.

I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?

Butrans is used because the powers that be in medicine are more concerned with opiate abuse that treating pain. I prefer the fentanyl patch because it is all pain med -- fentanyl is a pure opiate agonist, like morphine, where as Butrans depends on a medication that is part agonist / part partial agonist. But either patch should be worn only by those who are opiate tolerant.

Oxycontin, Morphine, Fentanyl and Methadone. In my opinion, I would start with the Oxycontin. It is easier to wean off of if you ever find yourself in a situation where you don't need it anymore. Remember, just be honest and tell him that you're not getting the relief from your meds at this point. Please take care and good luck with your appt.

Before the Botox treatments the pain was severe. I have done all the drug (morphine, Norco, Gabapentin, Oxycontin, Percocet and what ever drug they could give me to help with pain. My family doctor who was trying to help gave me Fentanyl50mcg in hopes it would help with my pain issues. It numbed up my mind and although I was eating, it was not enough and I went from 150lbs to 108lbs in a matter of months.

t seem to drop down any further without coming out of my skin. I stopped taking oxycontin over a month ago and now must stop the Norco in order to get a job as a RN. Even though my scripts are legal and legitimate, a hospital wouldn't hire me while taking narcotics. I hate taking these pills anyway but am scared I won't be able to function without them.

Does Norco cross the blood brain barrier?

hi,I'm new to this site,I use norco and soma,and I love how I feel on them,I mean LOVE!! I know its a proble,,I know I am a addict.I have been to rehab 2x,but when I go to rehab,I just seem to come out with more info on how to get high more effectivly and intensly and learn new ways to scam.I don't know how I will ever get clean because the intense cravings.they told us in rehab crtavings only last 15 minutes,but that's not what I experience.plusi love how it makes me feel.I love it.

I started out taking 1 Norco 3 times daily. I now have to take 2 to 3 norco up to 3 times a day for the same relief. My question is that I was just perscribed Oxycontin 80 and am supposed to take 1 every 12 hours. I have not yet taken any of the Oxy for fear that 80 maybe to much. I do have a high tolerance for the norco but am kind of nervous about taking a whole oxy 80 because I have never taken them before.

The hospital staff said I neede to stop all blood thinnig drugs (aspirin, fish oil, advil, etc) but did not say anything about pain mends (Oxycontin 4mg 2x day and Norco for the breakthrough pain (10 - 50 mg per day depending) Can I take the pain meds right up to the surgery?

ve got to get past this hold on my body and my life. I have been on Oxycontin for three years, with OxyIR and sometimes Norco for breakthrough pain. I was taking oxycontin 40 mg pills 6 a day for two years I went to an inpatient detox they did an 8 day taper using methadone today is 36 days since last oxycontin and 29 days since last methadone I felt ok while taking methadone 2 days after taper starting feeling withdrawls still feel very anxious and am freezing cold and can not sleep but am slowly getting better I was reading posts from people saying 4 days 5 days for oxy withdrawls I was just wondering if it is normal to feel wd's after

I have a lonstanding prescription for norco 10-325. My doctor authorises 180 pills a month. I use to take it only when I needed it but when my wife was diagnosed with cancer last year I started abusing them for relief from emotional pain. My wife also has pain pills. She has 80mg oxycontin that she takes twice a day as well as 5mg oxycodone that she takes for breakthrough pain.

I think one is just time released (oxycontin) while the other is regular but you know it is really easy to find this info on the internet -- just google it.

I am having kidney stones and the doctor put me on Percocet and told me to stop the Norco..Is Percocet stronger than Norco? The stones are killing me.
