Oxycontin vs morphine

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin vs morphine

oxycontin

210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
Avatar n tn at 16 went back on the pain meds because i just couldnt take the pain and tried to start with lower dosed ones like nucynta 100mg, ultram taking 250mg at a time then went back to the 10mg norco moved back up to the 10mg percs then they added the 30mg oxycontin back it was just a horrible cycle well last october i had a bad flair up and was scared because my doctors didnt really communicate with me they just throw scripts at me well i found a good doctor who put me on 30mg ms-contin 3 times a da
1529480 tn?1291877134 My doctor prescribed me 90 15mg morphine sulf ER for a month then I went up to 90 30mg morphine sulf ER. I also was getting 60 5/325 percocets for breakthru pain. I left that doctor to completely get off of the pain killers. I recently went back because I need them due to more pain. He gave me 120 5/325 percs for the first month, then he told me he wanted me directly back on the morphine. I almost cried because I do not want on the morphine.
Avatar m tn After years of suffering from chronic migranes and taking several pain meds for acute attacks, I was prescribed oxycontin, 10mg three times a day over two years ago. This dosage successful controlled the headaches as never befor -- without side effects. This month I learned my insurance requires me to try time-release morphine sulfate (it's cheaper). I decided to stop the oxy, but suffered withdrawal so bad I started again.
Avatar m tn Should he switch to oxycontin, in lue of his stomach issues? I am afraid if he stays on morphine he will have even further problems down the road. Any information regarding this matter would be GREATLY! appreciated! Thanks.
Avatar n tn I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.
Avatar n tn Dilaudid is 3 times stronger than morphine but it's an opiate and I believe all opiate WDs are the same. When it's time to stop the Dilaudid with your doctor maybe he can give you something to ease the WDs.
517090 tn?1256727302 Oxycontin is twice as strong as Morphine - therefore, if your were taking 80mg Oxycontin a day, the equivalent Morphine daily amount would be 160mg. For your dental surgery you should have had painkillers over and above what you usually take. Your medical carers/providers/dental surgeon should really know about this sort of thing. I'd be a bit worried if I were you.
Avatar m tn I requested Oxycontin because I know it works and th 15mg Morphine Sulfate did nothing. I told my PM doctor that I doubled and quadrupled my dose for the 15mg and still felt no relief. I almost feel like its a placebo that they are experimenting on me with. Has anyone had any relief from being on this type of Morphine?
Avatar m tn Morphine does cause nausea but I would be looking for other causes for bad stomach problems. This is for Deb who posted below. I have been on 120 mg morphine daily and norco for over 10 yrs, I have only had to use a laxative once. And that was because I had another surgery and didn't get proper exercise. Sounds like you were DOPED up if you can't remember things. If so I'm sure you weren't eating healthy or getting enough exercise. Same with your belly.
Avatar f tn At first, my insurance did not cover it (medicare) and my insurance wanted me to try morphine or fentenyl patch instead. My doctor said he did not want me on the morphine or fentenyl patch because he felt it would sedate me too much and I would not be able to care for my disabled son. The nurse fought with my insurance for 2 weeks and finally got it approved.
Avatar f tn I know oxycontin is pregnancy category B and Morphine is pregnancy category C but I was curious if it is more likely for neonatal withdrawals form morphine or oxycontin? I think oxycontin has a higher molecular weight and therefore harder time crossing the mom baby barrier. Heard two moms taking 40 mg three times a day had no withdrawals, but didnt know it would be the same for the morphine or not. I am taking 15 mg twice a day of oxcycontin and 40 mg of oxycodone.
1325672 tn?1290084214 What do they usually use? And my drug store has a sign. No Oxycontin in store. The store wants three days notice. So if they give me that tomorrow. I will have to wait.
Avatar f tn Oxycodone is known to be physically more addicting than morphine, although for people who are allergic to morphine, Oxycontin can work well. I used to switch between the two. If the oxy stopped working as well, i switched to morphine at the same strength and vice versa. I have been only on MSContin and Dilaudid for 5 years now. I lowered my pain medications drastically over a matter of about 10 years.
Avatar f tn Oxycontin and morphine would have the same withdraw effects, so if you are lowering the sum of your normal dose of either you will experience some withdraw symptoms. It is what people go through when they taper their dose to detox.....not full blown wds but slowly cutting down. After 4-5 days your system will get used to the lower dose. Why are you taking so much pain meds? Opiates quit working on chronic pain after some time. That is probably why your doc is switching you from one to the other.
Avatar m tn MS Contin (long lasting morphine) is not as strong as OxyContin. And it really comes down to what works best for the individual. Some ppl obtain little releif with Oxy's as compared to MS. I went int ER a month ago in acute severe pain (huge kidney stone) telling them that MS did not work well for me. Well they hit me with enough MS that it did reduce my pain significantly. Why than does MS Contin not redice my chronic pain to any degree???
Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar m tn I have become physically dependent on MS Contin which is the same type of med as oxycontin only Morphine is the narcotic instead of oxcycondone. I was prescribed this as a pain control medication for 2 years at which time they diagnosed my condition which required surgery. After surgery I now feel I don't need this strong pain med any longer and my other pain can be handled by a weaker pain med like percocet.
653169 tn?1303446369 THanks I took my first dose and already feel like u said sleepy, but still in pain. My Dr. suggested this cuz he didn't want to increase a breakthrough med of 5mg oxycodone but was more than willing to give me high dose oxycontin with more oxycodone, but I can't afford the oxycontin cuz it's like $800 and I have no insurance.
Avatar f tn The capsules are immediate release and the pills are extended release, right? I can't take hydrocodone also. I don't want to take a more powerful drug like oxycotin or morphine, so I was hoping there was a different chemical compound in the capsules!
699217 tn?1323438700 it means continuous, as in continuous release such as in oxycontin (oxycodone) and mscontin (morphine).
