oxycontin

17277382 tn?1455209810 Hi Everyone. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia, Arthritic TMJ, and have had my entire left jaw replaced, which left painful damage behind. There is nothing else they can do for me, so there is no "cure." I am left with severe chronic pain that will always be there. I will always be in pain management to control the pain and provide a normal quality of life, or as close as possible. I have been taking oxycodone 10 mg for more than a year.
Avatar n tn When I convert your current dose of MS Contin into Oxycontin equivalent, you are taking 60 mg less of Oxycontin through the MS Contin. To get dosing equivalent to 120 mg of Oxycontin through administration of MS Contin, you should have been prescribed 180 mg of MS Contin based purely on the pharmacological conversion factor between Oxycontin and MS Contin as Oxycontin is 1.5 times stronger than MS Contin.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I haven't posted for a long time. I was wondering the difference (strenghtwise) between oxy & hydromorphcontin ( long acting). I was on hydromorph last year and switched to oxycontin & oxy IR this spring in an attempt to keep overall dosages down. The oxy seemed to escalate quite rapidly vs increases needed when I was on hydromorph products. Which is stronger? Which is slower to build up tolerence to? Is it different for different people?
Avatar m tn Recently I read that if you take more than 40 mg of OxyContin at one time then it can cause death or permanent brain damage. Well when I was ages 14 and 16 I took one of my mom's 80 mg OxyContin pill and I remember I felt like throwing up for like 16 hours straight. I took it in the evening, went to bed, and woke up the next day still very nauseous. I started to feel completely fine about 20 hours after I took it.
Avatar f tn What are your exact doses and times per day that you are prescribed the Oxycontin? And is it only oxycontin, or is some of it percocet--or some other IR Oxycodone? Do you take anything for breakthrough? I have seen many posts from people who take as much or more than you, so you may be able to get an increase, depending on the type and dosages you are on. Severe chronic pain can often require those large amounts, so do not feel bad about taking that amount.
Avatar f tn per day, I am out of percocet, but am taking the oxycontin. I feel kind of sick. Arent they the same thing? Why would I be having withdrawels? I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn ) What should I expect in doing this? I have a high tolerance. Before they switched me to the oxycontin the other day I was taking 45 mg. oxycodone every 3 to 4 hours. Someone please help here! Thanks. And I didn't chew it, I cut it and swallowed it. Will it still just time relase but at half the dose, or will it all be absorbed at once? Since it's 40 mg. and I normally took 45 mg. of oxycodone, will I be okay?
1326416 tn?1370927001 ----- My pain doctor has stopped writing any and all prescriptions for oxycontin and oxycodone. She was suspicious why some patients only wanted oxycontin or oxycodone for their pain, as well as patients claiming it's the only drug(s) that helped their pain. I understand the suspicion, and would wonder about the same thing myself, considering all the different pain medications available nowadays.
Avatar m tn Oxycontin "4" ? Or did you mean a 40?..I believe you are fine taking your pain med in the morning of the surgery as I had back surgery a month ago and was instructed to take my meds first thing when headed to the hospital....It was oxycontin 40, percocet,, along with a blood pressure med I am on. Have you had a pre-surgery anesthesiest appointment yet? This should have been discussed at that appointment..
Avatar n tn You are not puking cause of HIV-it is completely normal for oxycontin to cause that when you dont have a tolerance built up to it. It is HIGHLY addictive and if you use it for a couple of days in a row and then stop, you will get dope sick-go through withdrawl and that is by far one of the worst things youy will ever experience. Take your bad experience as a lesson learned and be grateful that it didnt kill you. Someone without tolerance to the drug can overdose with even a small doseage.
Avatar f tn been in pain managemennt for 18yrs 8 on methadone 60mgs day hated it came off 08/2010 currntly taking 120mgs oxycontin per day allergic to suboxone/subtex can an addiction doctor wean me off slowy by tapering the oxycontin plus think im newly pregnant with 4thchild
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been on Oxycontin for a few months now (very low dose) and notice it only works about 5 hours. If my doctor increased my dose would it work closer to 8-12 hours? (I have been taking 15mg every 6 hours). I am thinking if I just take the whole 30mg maybe it would last longer than taking it in halves and when I reach 8 hours take break through meds. Anyone know if you have taken a higher dose if it last longer?
Avatar f tn I do need both but some people find they do not. I chose MsContin over Oxycontin because I already have a tolerance building for the oxycodone and didnt want to choose something that wouldnt work well because of that. Right now the MsContin is supposed to last 12 hours and feel like it is wearing off after 6hrs. I think once my dose is adjusted it will work well. Good luck. Hope you find something that works for you.
Avatar f tn I have a friend in desperate need of sub treatment. When I started sub, I was a 320mg a day maximum oxycontin user (mostly 160mg)but tapered down to 80mg 5 days before induction and did fine. My friend is taking oxycontin in very high doses along with anything else she can get her hands on. I found out she has been a long time user as well. She informed me she will not taper as she has nobody to help her and I for sure cannot hold the pills. Would she be a better candidate for methadone?
Avatar f tn A year ago I started having really bad problems in my back, I woke up one morning in September and couldn't move my left leg, from there, my dr had me do he reg procedures so my insurance would cover an MRI, the MRI showed 4 herniated discs and arthritis in my spine, and one of my herniations at L5-S1 is 11mmx11mmx17mm, needless to say, this one causes me the most problems.
Avatar f tn For me, hot showers, pre-natal vitamins, gatorade, magnesium citrate pills, and hot tea like green tea, lemon tea worked for me... I'm at 6 1/2 days sober, tomorrow morning will be my week mark quitting 215mg a day Oxycontin habit, and no that's not a misprint of mg's nor am I trying to sound like a badass... I've been literally high for 2 1/2 years every single day, in December 2007 I took this really horrible job, so I would pop 15mgs of Percocets (2 x 7.
725248 tn?1316162245 My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there??? I have an appointment to see my pain doctor next week, but would like to have some additional info when I go in to see him.
Avatar m tn I have a friend that has spinal cancer and is on 10mg Oxycontin 8 times a day and 40mg morphine 6 times a day. Due to his illness I want to make sure that when I count his pills that he will not take to much. I would like to know if anyone knows what the fatal amount of 10mg Oxycontin would be fatal. Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn Stay away from oxycontin, I've been in pain management for years and never needed a dose increase or had any problems until two months ago when my doctor put me on oxycontin. I started having cravings, started having wd when I'd miss a dose by just a few hours, I would wake up in the middle of the night with my skin crawling. I'm now using oxycodone to taper off and stop the wd but it's been extremely hard. It's prescription heroin so all I can say is stay away from it.
Avatar f tn There are other drugs out there that may be more effective with less side effects that she could try, however she has been on the Oxycontin so long she has become dependent and built up a tolerance to it so steps would have to be taken to change her medication safely. All opiates are going to have these types of side effects that you describe after long term use at his doses. Is she in Pain Management? If not that would be the best option for her at this point.
4730743 tn?1358469813 My question is about tolerance. Up until recently, my oxycodone/acetaminophen in conjunction with the Oxycontin had been a lifesaver. I believe I have grown tolerant of the Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325. Do you think asking my doctor to up my mg on the Oxycodone/Acetaminophen would be too much with the Oxycontin? 7.5? Maybe. Hope all makes sense, and anyone willing to give me some input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn or dead. I take 2 oxycontin (peeled and cut up) and 3, 20 mg oxycontin IR at the same . Lots, I know! This barely numbs the pain I have. How long can a body withstand these kinds of dosages? Thx.
Avatar f tn ve quit 3 times and each time never had any withdrawals other than the runs and very little anxiety if at all not sure why always thought it b hard to do so from what a lot of my friends went through but not the case I would assume it because I have high tolerance but not for sure. I am now on day 7 of nothing and again nothing more than the runs and slight anxiety on second day but runs carry on for at least week with no cramps.
Avatar n tn Well her tolerance might be pretty high if she's been taking all of these drugs for a while now. And PLEASE get her to the emergency room the second you suspect she's overdosing - don't question or even wonder for a second. TAKE HER. Good luck to you and your SIL. I hope she finds her way out of her addictions and soon - before it kills her.
Avatar f tn Oxycontin, same as Ms Contin I believe is not discontinued. She was on oxycodone. Sounds like what she really needed was a long acting and a short acting drug. If it was tolerance that caused the need for more or addiction we dont know, but if Dr would have prescribed a long acting like the MS Contin, ect, maybe less oxycodone, or roxi which is usually known as 5-10mg oxys then perhaps she would have handled the drug relief much better. It is sad this happened.
Avatar m tn I've been trying to taper off 80mg oxycontin and 20mg oxycodone recently after four months of steady use, but I have found that when I don't take the full amount, my legs start hurting really bad again. Do I need to just stay on the pain meds or do I need to try to get off them and try to find some way to get rid of the back and leg pain? The pain meds are not working for as long as they used to and I hate to think about taking more, but the pain gets to me.
Avatar m tn I need answers!, i swallowed 56 x 10mg oxycontin, 56 x 20mg oxycontin, 84 x 30mg clonazepam, and roughly 60 x 30mg duloxetine, this was on aug 13th 2010.....i'm still here...wtf !....how can my body deal with such a high amount of drugs......my doc seems to think they stuck in my gullet and did not get absorbed........this is an insult to my intelligence !.......can you please provide answers please.
Avatar f tn They will most likely start you on the lowest dose of Oxycontin, which is 10mgs twice a day and work your way up. The one big thing about Oxycontin that you build a tolerance quite fast. I'm at 20mgs three times a day and I'm in a whole lot of pain. I don't know if it quit working or if I'm just having a flare up. I take percocet 10mgs for breakthrough pain. It all depends on your doctor that is treating you in what they will allow you to do.
