Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin side effects oxycontin addiction

oxycontin

Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone new about the side effects of Oxycontin. I am currently taking 60 mg. 3 times a day for chronic pain. I have notice among other things that my sex drive has pretty much disappeared and that I have real problems getting erections if I may be so bold here. So I was wondering if anyone knows if that is a normal side effect of this drug. Also sweating and chills seem to be happening alot.
Avatar f tn Oxycontin and morphine would have the same withdraw effects, so if you are lowering the sum of your normal dose of either you will experience some withdraw symptoms. It is what people go through when they taper their dose to detox.....not full blown wds but slowly cutting down. After 4-5 days your system will get used to the lower dose. Why are you taking so much pain meds? Opiates quit working on chronic pain after some time. That is probably why your doc is switching you from one to the other.
Avatar f tn The reason for my posting is that I have started in the last little while noticing some real bad side effects. The one I have been bothered with the most is sexual and it is starting to effect my wife. I used to have such a high sexual drive more than the normal but now nothing and the worst part is that when we do have sex I have a very hard time reaching orgasms. Sometimes I don't at all and my wife is starting to take it personal as any women would.

Avatar f tn Does oxycontin as recreational use exhibit symptoms of indifference and apathy and unconcern over everyday obligations and responsibilities which prior to use were contradictory to the persons character. In other words a complete change of personally untecogisable by loved ones?
Avatar m tn Now it is considered the most addictive of all the drugs and is an immediate addiction. It took me two weeks to finally break loose from the hold it had and two more months before I eas sure I had broken away from it completely. I broke away cold turkey and only with the help of many here was I able to work my way through it. So many showed care, that had I failed, I would to this day be unable to lift my head.
Avatar m tn I didnt care about anything other than feeding my addiction. Educate yourself on addiction, using is just a symptom.
Avatar m tn I have been struggling with drug addiction for 10 years. I most recently was addicted to heroin which is similar to Oxycontin. I was addicted to it for over a year, and I went through the physical withdrawals many times. I stopped going to college for my Bachelors in Business Management and I lost several good jobs because of my bad habit. I finally hit rock bottom which was horrible. My parents had an intervention with me and sent me to an outpatient rehab that put me on suboxone.
494087 tn?1257793207 She has shared with me that the mental addition is considerably harder to overcome than the physical side effects. There are some mornings she awakes restless, anxious and a bit testy, and those are always because she dreamed of using all night. I pray for that day when she no longer fights daily to stop the glamorization of this hideous drug. I hope you will forgive yourself, yet keep the memory of your relapse, for a long time.
135691 tn?1271097123 The itching is not good and a bad sign. Did you go to their website and look up side effects? If you are not in a lot of pain, I would not take any for fear of addiction, but sometimes that can't be helped. It sounds like you have to strong of a prescription. God bless you.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar f tn My 19 year old son has an oxycontin addiction. He has tried to quit cold turkey twice in the past 3 months. He falls off at about the 6 week mark. He is at the 6 week mark now. He told us recently that he wanted to start using again. We asked him to do a urine test to see if he was using, because we told him we would not allow him to live at our home again if he was using. WE told him we would get him help if he needed and wanted it.
Avatar f tn to reduce side effects, reduce your dosage every day. Take your normal dose on a regular day, which you say is 6-8. next day take 4-5, day after take 2-3 and so forth. it will ease the side effects, if you will even have any depending on how long you have been dependent on them. I use to take over 500mg of Oxycontin every week and the come down was the worst 3 days of my life, but you have to stick with it.
922573 tn?1304099329 t want to be on anything too strong. After several failed attempts at other medications (side effects), we decided to try Oxycontin since that has always worked in the past without any negative side effects. For some reason I don't tolerate the new formulation well. It makes me nauseous, causes cramping, etc...
