Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin recovery

oxycontin

Avatar f tn t think you could work and go cold turkey! I am assuming you are talking about oxycontin? If so, and you were to go CT, you would be in for a hellish few days. And I have been thru detox more times than I would like to think about!
478387 tn?1210762308 Find a great pain management doctor, one that understands the depth of your pain. I know how excruciating the pain can be! I am on oxycontin and fentora (for breakthrough pain), after many trial and errors on other medications. The drug therapy will at least let you function as an individual. Things that work: 1. Massage your head. Sounds wierd but it helps. 2. Pain meds. Take them when you are in pain. 3. Rest, rest, and more rest. The more excercise, the worse the headache. 4.
4898964 tn?1381257899 After 40 days or so clean from a 400-600 mg a day habit of oxycontin I slipped up a couple of weeks ago for a good five day bender, then a few days later another 4 day binge. Not exactly fun right now, though it's not nearly a bad as it was getting clean a month and a half ago was at first. Still though, it feels like if I slipped back there again (and it wouldn't take long) I don't think I could deal with that pain right now.
Avatar f tn Okay, So to sum this up quickly I was on oxycontin (up to 200-400mg a day) for 3 years, and I went on methadone. My Babys dad was also doin this with me...anyways he got clean and wanted me off the methadone, so I stopped it Cold turky, but was too ***** to go thru that ****, and started using pills again ( I even got him back into and he was like 6 weeks clean....*sigh*) anyways, I DONT WANT TO go thru the hell I KNOW im facing.
Avatar n tn Not only did I not taper off, I graduated from taking 15-20 pills of Norco 10/325 a day to 6 tablets (sometimes 8) of 20mg Oxycontin a day. The worst of my addiction happened long after I posted on this forum. I entered myself into a ************** program and started taking Suboxone. I cannot say enough good about this drug. From the very first pill of Suboxone that I took, I've not thought about Norco, Lortab or Oxycontin since.
711290 tn?1231258904 I've been on oxycontin for about two years for pain. I've since had surgery and am coming off them now. I was doing 40mg 3 times a day. My Doctor told me to cut down gradually. So i'm doing 30mg for a week then 20mg for a week 10mg etc. I'm surprisingly still feeling a bit uncomfortable though. My main complaints would be lack of sleeping soundly or for 7-8 hours straight. I seem to sleep for 2-3 hours then i'm wide awake. Also I just feel like I can't fully relax.
Avatar n tn I have been using narcotic painkillers off and on since about 12th grade. (I am now 22). I was clean from Feb 2005- August 2006. In the past 6 months I have been taking about 5-6 10mg percocets everyday. Within the past month I have been either doing that or snorting ATLEAST 1 80mg oxycontin a day. My friends finally found out about my "double life" and this gave me a strong incentive to quit. I havent touched any opiates in about 48 hours...
Avatar m tn i agree with lostmakeupgirl. i also am a VALID PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENT. i didn't think id become a junkie over oxycontin but i did. i didn't think id stoop to the lows i have done but i did. i also find it rude and non productive to tell addicts how selfish we are. and if you reread rhe post he/she is scared that we will be the reason the drug is pulled from his/her life. that is the start of addiction in itself. reread how focused fourfer is on that. and fourfer is uneducated.
Avatar f tn As some of you may know i was trying to go cold turkey last week from oxycontin. I only made it 3 days and I relasped. Today i spoke to a friend of mine who has detoxed twice from oxy and he told me of a program at a local hosptial that he went though.
214607 tn?1287677559 That is a massive amount of oxycontin to be taking daily so I really wish you the best in your recovery. I know it doesn't matter but I'm just curious as to how you were able to get that much oxycontin?
Avatar m tn I see from your old posts that you have been doing the detox/ relapse merry-go-round since June. You're going to have to ask yourself why you continue to relapse and do something different this time. Everyone here will tell you that detox is the easy part. It's the day-after-day of living sober that's the hard part. If you don't change everything in your life that makes you want to use, you will simply keep using.
Avatar f tn My son is in the process of relapsing on oxycontin for the second time in 3 months. We have told him he cannot live at our home if he is using. We offered him help, he says he does not need it. He refused to urine test. Chose to leave the house. Living with former/possible relapsed oxy using friend. He is very very angry. What do we do?
Avatar f tn Hi i have been reducing my intake of oxycontin I used at first for a medical condition but then used for the feelings I got and then because I had to so I didn't get the withdrawls. I am now down to 10 mg three times a day. I want to get pregnant does anyone know how long I need to wait after I come off oxycontin??
Avatar n tn i did it cold turkey from oxycontin with self determination, the people on this forum and the thought of being cell mates with buba for a few years...stay on the forum....and get whatever other help or motivation you need...get off the shizzit ...i find talkin about it here and with friends helps lots....a possitive attitude,....laughter and makin fun of myself has helped ...don't take life to serious but take the addiction serious....
494087 tn?1257793207 I am not a user, I support my 21 y/o daughter that began her oxy w/d 7 1/2 weeks ago. She relapsed early in her recovery, and has been oxy free since. She has shared with me that the mental addition is considerably harder to overcome than the physical side effects. There are some mornings she awakes restless, anxious and a bit testy, and those are always because she dreamed of using all night.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Oxycontin 20mg 2 to 3 times a day with 10mg Oxycodone for breakthrough pain when needed since January 2006. I started weening myself down to 1 20mg pill a day 4 days ago. My nose runs like crazy and my legs and lower back just ache. Is there something I can do to help this leg ache? I have 8 20mg pills left and many breakthrough pills left. Do I have enough pills left to ween myself off safely? I have a Heart condition with a replacement Aortic valve.
Avatar m tn ve been on and off methadone, oxycontin, oxycodone since age 12 and am 24 in a couple weeks. My supplier (the last ******* person on the planet that should be) cut me off, never heard a word from here again this last weekend. Don't know why. I've got to hide it from everyone, take care of my daughter (terrible twos, jesus), pets, house, errands like I'm just merely under the weather. Its so hard and I'm scared every minute, time just dragging ***.
Avatar f tn They put me on lots of pain meds including morphine, percocet and oxycontin. I am home and have to go to PT twice weekly which is quite painful. I went to my surgeon on 11/2 and he said to wean off of oxycontin and oxycodone. He didn't explain how to go about that. My husband cut the oxycontin in half and I took that once at night and once in the morning for 3 days. When I thought about the next steps to get off the oxycodone, I thought to call the pharmacy for advice.
1117871 tn?1259006496 i'm down to 60mg of oxycontin per day. rough saying there. id' like to switch to suboxone. what is the conversion factor? how many mg., of suboxone = 60 mg./day of oxycontin? This discussion is related to oxycodone.
Avatar f tn I take oxycontin for legitimate pain. I am on day 3 of not taking any. They put me on some new non-narcotic pain meds that are working great for my IC pain. But the withdrawals are more than I can handle. Getting off the pain meds was my idea. Would I be better off to taper off them, or is there something my Dr. could give me to make it more bearable? Any ideas???
Avatar n tn I have needed to use oxycontin for pain relief post-operatively. Prior to surgery (hip replacement) I had been on Suboxone program for 3 yrs. Now I'm trying to taper the oxy and getting dope-sick bad. MD says that the Oxy w/d is complicated by the Suboxone w/d (which had been masked by the Oxys.) If that makes any sense. My question is does anybody have experience with oxycontin taper? Reduce by how much for how long, etc?
135691 tn?1271097123 While I was in the hospital these past couple of days, they started me on Oxycontin 40mg sustained release tablet. I've previously been taking percocets and I'm finding that, the longer I take them, the less of an effect they have on me, which I understand is totally normal. At the hospital, they were giving me the 40mg tablet every 6 hours and I literally felt in a constant daze - which was fine, when I was confined to a hospital bed!
Avatar m tn Hello world- first post on this website....figured it might help to do some type of forum or something. I've been addicted to oxycontin/percocets/suboxone (off and on when not getting high, for almost 2 years now. My life has completely changed, but I don't need to get into that. Let's basically say I used to be the captain of high school sports, you know the whole jock story, and then got into drugs hardcore, went from 185 lbs to 140 lbs.
Avatar m tn See all the ads on the sides? That is the next step in your "recovery". They want you to spend thirty grand for the miracle cure. And with any luck get you on some "maintenance meds". One thing I have learned is that you have to hate this stuff to quit it. Chose life... Rolling up on day 23 hurting for certain but I want it. Not even expecting good sleep for a loooooooooooong time I have given up on that. It only leads to anxiety.
749490 tn?1233206933 sorry you feel ignored. i did read your post about the oxycontin comparison....most ppl did not have an answer so they did not respond. thats usually wht we do...if we are familiar with the question we answer. i would suggest you stick with this c/t you will turn the corner any day now and you willl be really glad you stuck with it. another reason you did not get many responses is because week ends are really slow. hang around you will get answers.
