Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin new coating

oxycontin

Avatar n tn I have heard a lot of people complain about the new formulation of Oxycontin .It is called OP I think .Purdue made this new formulation to stop people from abusing it but I have heard a lot of CP patients complain that it doesn't work as good as the old formulation .There is a substance that turns to a gel to keep people from snorting it or shooting it up and that may be what is causing it to not dissolve correctly .That's my best guess about it though .I would talk to my Dr about this .
491984 tn?1463398730 Has anyone experienced adverse side effects from the new formula of oxycontin?
749490 tn?1233206933 4-6 hours, now if you take the oxycontin whole without taking off the coating and crushing it up, breaking the time release, then it will last a lot longer slowly releasing(whatever size pill you ahve 20mg,40mg,80mg) it will release that mg amount of a period of 12 hours instead of the percocets or crushing the pill up lasting at most 6 hours...
Avatar f tn Just for general info, there may still be some of the original oxycontins out there (stamped "OC") but I suspect most are gone now and replaced with the reformulated "OP" stamped oxycontin...The new one's that caused allergic reactions with me and a few other's in here..Them doing that was probably a blessing in disguise as had they not been changed, I probably would still be having them prescribed and never quit.
Avatar m tn Is Percocet the same thing as oxycontin, only in a non time release formula? I heard the time released stuff works better for chronic pain, Does anybody have experiance with that who can help?
Avatar f tn ) but since they are the same chemical, just enteric coating on the oxycontin in order to slow the release of medication. At any rate, I know how you feel about being judged even when you know how much the medication is necessary for comfort for your daily living.I am embarrassed to present my morphine script at the pharmacy. How crazy is that? Good luck with the employment prospect.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if Norco, 10-325 is easier to withdraw from than Oxycontin 80mg. My friend was taking 2 oxycontin 80mg a day and told her doctor ( they were not prescribed) and she told the doctor that the only thing stopping her from quitting oxycontin was the horrible withdrawals. He put her on Norco and told her to wean down with those, and that going cold turkey off Norcos ( once she's weaned down to 5 a day) is easier than w/d from oxycontin.
880900 tn?1467270141 Are you taking oxycontin or oxycodone? If you are taking oxycontin, PLEASE DO NOT CUT THE PILLS INTO PIECES! I think it must be oxycontin you are taking, since oxycodone doesn't come in 20mg pills, it comes in 5, 15 and 30mg. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same drug, but the oxycontin is the time-released version. If you break those pills, or even if the coating on one is chipped, it's dangerous to take them because you will overdose yourself.
Avatar n tn When I convert your current dose of MS Contin into Oxycontin equivalent, you are taking 60 mg less of Oxycontin through the MS Contin. To get dosing equivalent to 120 mg of Oxycontin through administration of MS Contin, you should have been prescribed 180 mg of MS Contin based purely on the pharmacological conversion factor between Oxycontin and MS Contin as Oxycontin is 1.5 times stronger than MS Contin.
Avatar f tn ve been in oxycodone 10mg 4 a day and OxyContin 20mg 2 a day and due to other issues my pain Doc prescribed me the Fentanyl psych 25mg or mcg and took out OxyContin. Now two things.....1)my OxyContin was also used to treat tremors and restless arm syndrome, now that I'm off it, my restless issues and tremors are back and I'm trying to find out if I can do my OxyContin instead of oxycodone with the patch, but I would only do 20mg .

Avatar f tn t just a way for the makers of oxycontin to have a new med patent to keep exclusive rights to for whatever the time length they get to keep the drug formula to themselves for? And is the ingredient that makes the pills tamper proof considered an" inactive ingredient" which to my understanding is somehow not importan . Personaly I never have been a fan of the whole Oxycontin craze.. I have never found it to be that effective for pain control.
Avatar m tn But I knew he was leaving to go into neurology but didnt think it would be a problem that i could get my meds from another dr. there. But come to find out this new dr. dont believe in oxycontin an i was on 30mg 3x a day along with percocet 10-325 3x a day . 922573 tn?1304099329 Thanks, Sarsi. I'm glad you have found something that provides relief. I was actually referring to the new formula of Oxycontin. Apparently, it has been changed since I've had to take it post-op after every major operation in the last decade. I've only ever been on it for a short period of time but it has always worked well to control pain and enable me to function. My pm dr.
596605 tn?1369946627 I contacted my Pharmacist because I got terribly sick and noticed that the new prescription Oxycontin OP looked different from the old Oxycontin OC prescription. The Pharmacist told me that he has received a lot of phone call's from people who have been getting very sick due to the change in the new formula. There have been a lot of patient's hospitalized with congestive heart failure, trouble breathing, etc.
Avatar f tn ve got to get past this hold on my body and my life. I have been on Oxycontin for three years, with OxyIR and sometimes Norco for breakthrough pain. Every time I want to decrease dosage, I have another injury or problem.I was in an MVA, and have had several surgeries. My husband went through withdrawal a year ago from MS-Contin. He had started to turn into an old man taking the pain pills. It was hard watching him.
Avatar n tn hi iwent to docs and he put me on soma bad back i was doing great for the first time in so long then after 8 months he took 4 a day from me and put me on oxy 2x20mg a day i only eat 1/2 2x day i all the sudden after 1 month felt this power come over me so great i new i was in trouble so i started taking just pieces of suboxin little pieces so i can get off oxy it takes all syptoms away until you quit it then its back it is so powerful of a feeling now i am having 40 bad panic attacks a day.
Avatar f tn I'm wondering if 1 oxycontin (80mg) that my BF gives me every day to assist in my wean will help me. I am having minimal WD signs but the physical pain for which I was initially prescribed 3 Dils (8mgs each) per day by the former doc comes roaring back every morning. I am no longer on the Dilaudids.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed 30mg Roxicodone 4x a day, then about a year later put on OxyContin 80mg 2x a day, with the Roxicodone for BT. Wow. At the time, I was brand-new to pain management, and had no idea that these were very high doses! Eventually, when I realised that and educated myself, I got myself off of everything. I now see a new PMD, who has prescribed 15mg MSContin, with 10mg Norco for BT.
Avatar m tn I hope the oxycontin helps with your pain. 10 mg of oxycontin is a very low dose so if you are noticing that you have a lot of pain throughout the day, you may need to talk with your doctor about an increase in strength. Please keep us updated on how your new medications are working for you!
870151 tn?1239677917 I was on Oxycontin 80mgs 3 times a day for over 11 years for pain in my wrist. I have had a complete wrist fusion and I was in pain no matter how much meds I swallowed. I just didn't understand it. Then my doctor was raided by the DEA and his lic. taken away. I was refered to a pain dr. and just wanted to be off Oxy and not be in pain. This dr. gave me Neurotin and in 3 weeks my pain was GONE! I was elated. Now I had to get off Oxycontin.
Avatar m tn I have been prescibed 80mg oxycontin 2 X daily. It seemed like the miracle drug. I've been taking it for almost 2 yrs With the recent change in the fillers, it doesn't seem to work as well, or last as long. Also I have been breaking out in small blisters on my hands. My stomach also seems to be more upset than usual. I've been told that they didn't change the active ingredients. Could it be possible that I'm having an allergic reaction to the new fillers in the medication?
Avatar n tn i was prescribed more antibiotics by a french doctor when i still had the sore throat (he was not familiar with the biaxin xl) and an antifungal triflucan for the tongue, which he attributed to the antiobiotics. The coating is not really going away though, and while I did not take the full course of the new antibiotics, I have been taking the antifungal. I know that oral sex without ejaculation is low risk, but is this coating a bad sign?
Avatar n tn white coating at back of tounge had it for several months now, could it be candida i dont have sugar cravings or any other related symptoms please let me know. it covers my tounge in the morning but through out the day it restricts it sewlf to the back of tounge. Avatar n tn Hello, I have recently become aware of a thick white coating on my tongue that turns yellow after eating or drinking caffine. I am not sure if I suffer from Halitosis but I sometimes have a metalic taste in the mouth. For a few years I have had an impacted wisdom tooth with decay. I have procrastinated about getting it removed. Could the tooth cause the problem. I have tried Hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash but can't stand the taste. Can you suggest anything.
Avatar m tn I've heard there's a permanent coating that dentist can apply to teeth that helps prevent cavities. My dentist tells me it wouldn't do any good at my age,54.Does anyone know if this is true?
Avatar m tn it could mean you have tonsil stones. Sometimes when you have tonsil stones you may have a tongue coating from the bacteria.
Avatar m tn I had a long hair in my eye and went to the bathroom to try to get it out gently with the corner of a kleenex when I noticed that my eye has a clear jelly like coating that sort of moves around when you touch it. I'm not real sure how to explain it but it sort of slides around and collects together when you gently move something across it. Is this tear film or conjunctiva or what?
