Oxycontin kidney

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin kidney

oxycontin

I have a standing order with a pain management dr that gives me oxycontin 40mgs 4 x per day for gout pain that comes from the kidney ailment among other things. I will not lie- I usually munch them up at the beggining of each day. makes me feel happy for about 5 to 6 hours. I know this is addict behaviour. I am an addict. I will not dare tell my dr this.
well my story started last year with a shooting pain in my back which turned out to be a kidney stone. this little bugger was just below the size they choose to go in after so I spent 8 agonizing weeks trying to get rid of it myself which i did but not without being prescribed first percocets then an ambitiously older doctor decided to put me on two 60 miligram slow release morphine tablets a day for three weeks.
I had a few questions about the withdrawal symptoms of OxyContin. I had used it (smoking and inhaling) for about 2 months starting at around 20mg a day, peaking at about 80-120mg a day and then weaning off down to 20mg again. I saw a doctor about detox and there wasn't much help there. I realize that my usage was very minimal over a long period but I still experienced withdrawals. its been about a month now and I am noticing pimple-like rashes mainly on my legs but slowly spreading upwards.
The urinary problem ended up being a kidney stone. Had emergency surgery for that and then I had a hysterectomy and now I have tendonitis in both hands. I don't get the pills from anywhere but doctors but I could probably get by without them now - I just feel better when I take them. Does that mean I am addicted? It doesn't really matter what kind. I mostly take 5/325 percocet. Right now my RX is for roxicet. Not really sure of the difference between any of them.
I have been taking Oxycontin for about 3 years and for the past few months its gotten out of control. Started with a few 40s per day, then twice that, then more, etc. etc. etc. over a 3 year period. Quantity was still reasonable til about 3 months ago. I have been taking 1200-1600 mg per day now for about 3 months, first because it really made me feel great but lately because without I felt horrible.
The doc started giving it to me for my polycystic kidney disease and it never stopped. You must TELL a loved one that you will be sick for a while and explain to them that you WILL NEED HELP. I was down for more than a week with an upset stomach, shaking hands and a terrible emptiness in my soul that needed the drug. But with my husbands help, (he fed me, helped me sleep, rubbed my back) a lot of Gatorade and time to heal I was able to pull through without going to the E.R.
The pain was getting worse and worse because the kidney was free floating in the abdomen and the urinary lines were being pulled on I was moved up to 80mg of oxycontin 3 times daily. I had surgery June 2010 to have my kidney tacked back into place. Stayed in hospital for over a week, they couldnt control my pain because on my own I was on oxy's and they were trying to treat my post operative pain with 1mg of morphine. HA.
Oxycontin, depending on the dose, can cause confusion and temporary memory loss.
I have been taking the subject drug for nine months following multiple fractures resulting in class III trauma and a hosptial admission in critical condition. I am now in the midst of weaning myself off this drug. I have developed a full feeling - when I swallow - in the area just at the bottom of the thyroid. I have no trouble swallowing, I just experience the fullness.
I was in a major car accident 2 years ago and was perscribed oxycontin and oxycodone. Now, it seems that I need to take it just to keep my sanity and it does get rid of my back pain. I feel so hopeless, I've lowered my dose four times and still suffer from withdrawl. I've been an addict since my early 20's. It all began with physical pain, migraines, kidney stones, 3 herniated discs in my lower lumbar spine, and many aches and pains. I can't sleep or eat.
The doctors neglected to take into account that he had spent the previous nine months on oxycontin. 12 hours after surgery dad goes into a 3 day delirum. The doctors finally talk to us and we tell them that he has been on oxycontin for nine months ( we had delivered dad's medical history to the doctors before surgery). Dad now has a blood pressure problem (he can't stand up without his blood pressure dropping), he is falling down and he is having mild seizures.
i also realise i will be off and on oxycontin for the rest of my life (at least that's what my pain doc implies). some- times a person (especially a junky) has to put there head down and just move a head no matter what! that's kind of where i'm at today! keep an angel on your shoulder!
Does anyone know if long term use of Oxycontin for chronic pain can cause toxic hepatitis or medication induced hepatitis????? I have been taking it for 5 years for severe back pain.
Now that I am off the Fentanyl patch, I am left with an addiction to Oxycontin. I am taking two 20 mg oxycontin twice a day. I would like to switch that to taking one every six hours for a while, and then try to drop one here and there. These are capsules so I can't cut them in half. Is this the best way to taper myself off these? I found out if the opiate level in my blood gets too low, I start to feel anxious, but have to get off these one way or the other.
but most important is my mind, i just wnat to feel good about the person i am, i want to be able to be there for others, and not put getting oxycontin or doing oxycontin in front of my most valued relationships as i have done the past few years.
So for the last 30 days, I have been taking 240mg of Oxycontin, 3 times per day. I went to a doc, he gave me sample suboxone, told me to stop the oxycontin and in the AM, (24 hrs after my last dose of oxycontin), to take 1 Suboxone pill(I believe it is 5 mg...it is a light tan pill). He told me to let it disolve under my tongue.
) One year ago, I was prescribed Oxycodone for kidney stone pain and while awaiting reconstructive shoulder surgery. Now one year later, I want to stop using these opiates as I am lethargic and have no interest in anything. All i want to do s sleep all day, which i cannot do. I would like to quit cold turkey but would like your comments on the symptoms, side-effects and also some meds or remedies that may help make the cessation process easier.
I have a question regarding my boyfriends addiction to oxycontin. He has used for 5 years, abused prescription and at one point he had taken about 40 oxys 20mg. I dont believe its that much on a daily basis but very high doses. He also crushes and snorts them. I have a question on the long term effects of this abuse. Everything I could find were vague. I am referring to other than withdrawl symptoms. He goes through being sick for about a week or two a month every month for years.
I snort Oxycontin partly to control my dosing & partly for the high. There is little pain relief from taking it nasally. I DON'T recommend anyone try snorting it as this will lead to increasing dosages & abuse! As far as your stomach, make sure you take Oxy on a full stomach or at least with some food or milk. It can be hard on your tummy but it is a very effective aceteminopen free pain killer.
As far as other side effects, well of course there is the liver which you mentioned and the kidneys. Thankfully there isn't tylenol in the oxycontin, but the tylenol with percs is surely compromising these organs' well being. My very good friend, a percocet abuser, just got off a dialysis machine 2 days ago, for failed liver and kidney function. He is an otherwise healthy 32 year old man. Then there are changes that occur to the brain, that in many cases can be permanent.
So - my wife says you all may be able to help me. Been trying to get off oxycontin - today is 14th day. Can't sleep - *****. Started drinking a bit this weekend. Hate that b/c I don't really drink. Been taking extra vitamins - tried a few sleeping pills. All ***** - no help.
It's absolutely possible. It sounds like she was comatose! Oxycontin causes low blood pressure. Too much will,of course, cause a very big drop in blood pressure. In turn, kidneys don't get enough blood supply(along with other organs) and will have trouble functioning properly. Who are the "they" that gave her the oxycontin? Speak to the doctors caring for her now and ask them to explain all this to you. Just my opinion but oxycontin is a bit of overkill for gout!
Just turning 21 and finally getting my life in order when BOOM all of a sudden i have this kidney disease. Now i have been on here searching for someone with the same problem, I would like to have someone to talk to who is going through the same problems and struggles as i am. So if you have medullary sponge kidney, please please please contact me!
cause when codine dont work anymore, then its hydro(vicodin) then oxy(percocet, oxycontin), then its fentynal(durgesic patch, actiq pop), eventually its heroin if ur an addict.
I have been taking a large amount of oxycontin for the past month. Everyday, I have been taking 320 mg of oxycontin, 3 times per day. I chew them up when I swallow them. I dont just swallow them whole; I chew them first. I know this is way more than I should be taking. Prior to this, I have been taking 80mg of percocet, once a day, for about 3 yrs.
I recognize my problem and will seek theraphy, but for the first step, i need to get off of the Oxycontin with the least amount of withdrawl. Because I was taking oxycontin to help my depression,, I thought it may be reasonable to try Cymbalta for a short period of time why I get into therapy. Cymbalta provides a reuptake inhibitor for norephinephrine. When withdrawling from Oxy's, is this something that could help the CNS and alliviate withdrawl symptoms?
Hello everyone, I recently found out I have MSK and was told I would definately need a kidney transplant at some point in my life, but most likely in about twenty years. I have tried to research MSK, and all my research seems to say that kidney failure is rare, so I don't understand why I would need a kidney transplant. I was just wondering if anyone else has been told this as well?
After having my right kidney lasered in May 2010 I have been left with constant pain (much like hard labour pain) in my bladder, right ureta and kidney since. I have been on oxynorm since July 2010 and then in April 2011 was put on oxycontin as well. I'm currently under the Pain Clinic and they have put me on Amitritalyn which is an anti depressant (no I'm not depressed) but this anti depressant acts as a nerve block. Apparrently your body gets so use to being in pain it can't switch off.
She has been ordered to go cold turky on the oxycontin because there is signs of liver and kidney damage. They wont operate on her for her pain till she loses a bit of weight. She is doing her best to lose weight but it is hard as she can not move much. Could someone please tell me what the actual with drawal affects are of going straight off Oxycontin and how long does it take to get out of your system.
