Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin in children

oxycontin

Avatar m tn I have been prescibed 80mg oxycontin 2 X daily. It seemed like the miracle drug. I've been taking it for almost 2 yrs With the recent change in the fillers, it doesn't seem to work as well, or last as long. Also I have been breaking out in small blisters on my hands. My stomach also seems to be more upset than usual. I've been told that they didn't change the active ingredients. Could it be possible that I'm having an allergic reaction to the new fillers in the medication?
Avatar f tn , and let your NATURAL reward system kick in! For me, today my NATURAL happy chemicals are finally working oxycodone-oxycontin-percocet free, and I love it!
Avatar f tn It is oxymorphone and it is strongest pain medication available in pill form based on pharmacology. The oxycodone in Oxycontin is metabolized by the liver into oxymorphone. Therefore, the Opana ER would be a drug that is very comparable to the Oxycontin, only twice as strong.
Avatar f tn After reading all comments, I am very scared to begin trying to withdraw from my pain medication, I am a 40yo mother of 2 teenage children. I am on 80mg oxycontin/20mg methadone/25mg amatryptiline and Oxynorm 10mg as required. I suffered a severe car crash in January 07 leaving me hospitalised for >4 months. I am now trying to reduce my pain medication not thru choice but through govt regulations that say after 12 months I should no longer be on these medications.
356518 tn?1322263642 Oxycontin and cymbalta are listed here and as these are two drugs we use in our community you should be aware that these drugs are being tested for safety.
Avatar n tn I was on 80 mg 3 times a day during both pregnancies but I took myself down to the lowest dose I could in the last month and half for fear of withdrawals on the children and because I am alergic to morphine, I couldn't switch to something else. Methadone is dangerous and ABSOLUTELY should not take while pregnant, it stays in your system for 36 hours so taking three pills a day and then adding three pills the next day stays in your system.
Avatar f tn t absorbed into the womb which is why it is given to me each time I have been in the ER. Oxycontin I was told would slow down the heart rate, so use it only moderately. Hope you find the answers and feel better soon.

1264863 tn?1391118193 I am still pushing along on my taper schedule. Down to about half my short acting oxy. Had a question for anyone who has tapered off oxycodone and oxycontin before. So I started at 5 1/2 Oxycodone a day 15mg and 2 Oxycontin a day 30mg. I am down to 3 oxycodone and 2 oxycontin after just 20 days. Also went down on my other meds just to get them under control the first week but they have stayed the same since then.

Avatar f tn 2001 Spent just under 4 full weeks in an acute withdrawl syndrom detoxing from a High Dose Oxycontin Addiction in a PA Rehab. The worst of it was the damn Neuro symptoms..specifically involving My Left (occasionally also my right) Leg/Foot. When ever...
Avatar m tn Did you ask the civvy docs for something less powerful than oxy? Oxycontin may be a good choice for you in that it is a long-acting medication giving you close to 24/7 pain coverage. However, if you take it for a month or so, you will have physical dependence on it, and since you're in a bad spot for medical care, that may cause more problems than it's worth. It appears your only option is to go back to the doctor and explain your dilemma and see what they can come up with.
1980489 tn?1326255851 The symptoms are the same in adults as in children - but keep in mind that not every adult has every symptom and neither does every child. I had it - and we all present pretty differently even though we are the same? Muscle fatigue means that exercise is pretty much a disaster - and the fatigue is overwhelming.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
454366 tn?1211245301 Please read the info on www.jonbarron.org on Bi-Polar disorder in children. The info is kinda scary; but I think you might help with finding other avenues to take. Peace be with you and keep the faith. Our kids are our future. Let's not just dope them up because we are told to. Let's not dope ourselves up either.

(An increase in prescription of about -.75 in each eye over the year before) How much worse is she likely to get before her vision stabilizes?? Is her vision likely to keep her from driving when she comes of age??
Avatar f tn First, I havent heard of explosive behavior disorder. (in children) In adults, this type of thing would show up as an Axis II personality disorder. In children, particularly 4 (very young for this kind of diagnosis, ADD/ADHD as well - and I would hold off on the meds until a second or third opinion is obtained..cheaper than treatment I'm sure...) ALSO - (I have personal experience in this - my 5 yr old girl had wild tantrums, and I was very worried,, and took her to different drs...
Avatar n tn To diagnose the underlying cause and origin of vertigo in children, an MRI or CT scan of the brain and skull are usually recommended. In addition, your child also undergo a complete physical and examination by a physician with special focus on a test known as the Dix-Hallpike maneuver which will help to narrow the complication into either nerve damage or brainstem involvement.
Avatar n tn I have copied this out for you, it happens quite frequently While there are uncommon serious causes of passing out in children, the majority of fainting episodes are brought about by reasons that are neither serious nor life-threatening. The most common reason for fainting in children is called vasovagal syncope [VAY-so-VAY-gull SEENK-oh-pee). Vasovagal syncope is an abnormal reaction of the nerves to otherwise normal circumstances. These nerves dictate the heart rate and blood pressure.
