2108228 tn?1339862242 Hi, question for you, you say you have stage 3 colon cancer, are you taking the pills for pain or for the high? If it's for pain with cancer, I'm not sure this is the best time for you to stop. You are not taking that much, talk to your doctor first and see what he/she recommends that you do for now. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn Now, I have found another pain management group, and because I have cancer, they give me scripts for opiate-based pain killers each month, but each month, family members have to drive to well over 50 pharmacies to even find the medicines for me. Every pharmacist tells me that local, state, and federal crackdowns on opiates are causing shortages, and even patients with stage4 cancer can't get the medicine. Has the world gone completely mad?
Avatar f tn I have had neck fusion surgery and lower back surgery and was prescribed oxycontin for pain. I became addicted to the pills and was abusing them. I have stopped using them. Medical marijuana was a godsend for me. If you live in a state that allows it then check it out. Then best was I have found for using cannabis is eating it. It will help with pain more than morphine and is not addictive. Cannabis is a natural Herb not a man made drug! Help yourself and please check it out.
Avatar n tn I know someone who has been on OxyContin for about 9 years for Fibromyalgia pain. This person gets about 90 OxyContin a month. I personally think that is outrageous. I really wish the FDA would get rid of this drug completely.
135691 tn?1271097123 While I was in the hospital these past couple of days, they started me on Oxycontin 40mg sustained release tablet. I've previously been taking percocets and I'm finding that, the longer I take them, the less of an effect they have on me, which I understand is totally normal. At the hospital, they were giving me the 40mg tablet every 6 hours and I literally felt in a constant daze - which was fine, when I was confined to a hospital bed!
Avatar f tn it is a very sad thing when our elderly can not be treated with the respect and caring nature they deserve. It should not matter that she is poor, the woman needs pain relief as I am sure she is suffering! Check with local charity organizations they may have acsess to a doctor or doctors that are willing to help her without being compensated. Also call around as some doctors will do this. I am so sorry she is going through so much pain. I will look and see if I can find some help for her.
Avatar f tn Hi Christie, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your mothers chronic back pain. You did not indicate if your Mom is elderly and you are caring for her or if she is independant and not a senior citizen. Also who is this nurse? Is she a friend of yours or is she routinely involved in your mother's care? In other words does he know your mother well?
1029507 tn?1287714315 i just talked to my llmd nurse she told me when i come down we will talk about morphine for my pain, right now i take Oxycontin for pain she said that is just a short term help, she said that morphine works for chronic pain.
356518 tn?1322263642 In his own research on more than 200 patients treated with OxyContin for chronic pain over three years, no new cases of addiction were reported. “Over 30 years, I’ve seen a few thousand patients with cancer and sickle cell [disease] and other [conditions], and less than five that I’m aware of became addicted,” Payne says." Myth number two...: Most people who get addicted to painkillers are “accidental” addicts who sought pain treatment and had no prior history of drug problems.
Avatar m tn Thanks for sharing more...I'm still confused on the part that if your Dr. is prescribing both the Oxycodone and the Hydromophone...then I don't understand the fear of speaking to them. I don't see what you could say that is the" wrong" thing. If you have been seeing this Dr. for some time now you can just talk to them about what is working and isn't working for your pain control. Ohio does not have any law...
Avatar f tn I have been in a pain management program for 4 years. I have taken 20 mg Oxycontin three times a day and also 10 mg Loritab three times a day. I received a letter last week where they informed me they were dismissing me from the program. Well that left me with what medications I had left in my bottles to try to wean myself off of them. Now is the time and I am really scared of what is going to happen, I don't think it will be good.
Avatar f tn I have been taking it 20 mg a day every second day for about a month now I have some bad digestive problems and was wondering if this is normal I have stopped taking it for two weeks and still have incredible pain in my intestines i've never taken more than 30 mg in a day?? Was wondering if it is caused by taking OxyContin or if it's an infection I have in my intestines?
558096 tn?1255887002 I have been on oxycontin/oxycodone since it came out for my pain and I believe it to be the best pain killer ever...and believe me I have been thru the most of them. But I take them the way they are prescribed to me and it works great. The thing is my doctor is weird about this....because of the bad pubicity about OXYCONTIN he puts me on oxycodone the generic form which is fine by me it works the same but....
Avatar m tn There are many other narcotic options other than oxycontin, however, what may work for one person may not work for another - therefore, it's virtually impossible to suggest what would be a good switch for you. You're best off discussing this with your doctor - simply be honest wtih him/her and tell them that the oxycontin is not working very well anymore and ask if there is anything they can do.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I am 47 years old, I've been diagnosed wit RA, DDD, and Fibro. I've been on some sort of pain med for 20 years. For the last 2 it's been oxy with percs for brake threw. My wrists, right ankle and left knee are swollen and hurt worse than any pain I've ever felt.
Avatar m tn Hi mellie4, iv'e had practically every drug available, but neurosurgeons have told me nothing will stop my pain, i took the overdose because after 7 years of this i have had enough! , i did'nt vomit anything up, this is why i need answers, n/surgeons told me no one in the world will attempt the op cos it's far to dangerous........so second opinions are not going to happen.
Avatar f tn I suffer from chronic pain for some time and my doctor put me on oxycontin but to find out about side effects that indicate that it is an addictive anti-anxiety pill, ask my doctor switch me find out painkiller as it existed in findrxonline vicodin and Side effects were minor.
Avatar n tn I had breast cancer (double mast) in Aug. 2007. At that time, my bone scans and ct scans showed nodules on my lungs and a spot on my spine. The chemo took care of the lungs, but none of my doctors ordered another bone scan. But they sure ordered the PET scans (for my lungs, I smoke). The PETS have always been good. Then this past October, I had severe pain in my back (thoracic). My oncologist ordered plain old xrays and they concluded it was osteoarthritis.
Avatar m tn It works great to kill the pain, but I am afraid I may become addicted. If i do not take the vicoprofin, I experience great pain. I assume I should just take the pain medication as prescribed and I will work with my doctor when it comes time to come off the drug.
Avatar f tn you can always get a second opinion when I was at it I had MRIs I could take anywhere and ask for just about anything and get it there comes a time you have to make a choice to live in a fog or to live life again most of our members including myself have found we do better without the narcotics ....
Avatar m tn Im a Fibromyalgia patient with severe body aches and pain bad enough for narcotic pain killers. I get urine drug tested every month when i go to get my prescriptions from a pain management clinic. I have tested positive for either Hydrocodone or Oxycontin the last 6 times I tested. I havent taken Hydrocodone in 5 years and Ive never taken Oxycontin. The dr doesnt believe me and Im probably gonna be released because of it. I cant make him believe me.
Avatar m tn 5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.
Avatar m tn I am on Oxycontin 20mg, and Percocet 5/325 for breakthrough pain. My Primary prescibes the Oxycontin and my Orthopedist prescribes the Percocet. Orthopedists have a problem prescribing it also. As a matter of fact they would rather give you a truckload of Vicodin that will ruin your liver. That has been my experience at least. Oxycontin is a very safe and effective pain medication if taken as directed by people who have legitimate conditions that cause them moderate to severe pain.
