I have never tried Oxycontin; however, my physician said that we would try it if the Opana ER isn't effective. I have found Opana ER to be very effective in the management of my pain. I still have pain that breaks through during the day but I have a lot more control of my pain throughout the day than I did when I was on MS Contin.

That depends on your doctors comfort levels in prescribing , a patients ability to tolerate side effects, other medical conditions, effectiveness of using opiates, but typically- most physicians will not prescribe over 90 to 100 MME mg dosing per day-(Morphine equivalent dosing per day)- and typically only for patients who have been on opiates for some time. MME dosing combines both long acting and immediate release types of opiates to reach 90-100mg MME daily.
t know a whole lot about this except for that I had to do a round of antibiotics (Zithromax) for bronchitis in April. On the medication instructions for the antibiotic, it clearly stated that there could be a drug interaction with Oxycontin. So I called my pharmacist, who, in turn, called my PCP. They said to continue with the meds and watch for changes. And call if I noticed a need for more or less pain medication. I did not in the end..

You need to speak with your prescribing physician about dosing instructions with the Suboxone. Make certain you follow his instructions, especially going from Methadone to Suboxone.

Exactly - the med is the same, the strength is the same - the pack is just an easier way for your doctor to prescribe it rather than actually figuring out how many pills to prescribe - and also probably easier on the pharmacy for them not having to write out all the instructions on dosing.
We are not allowed to give dosing instructions on here. If we do, the mods just delete the post. I was also prescribed oxycontin for awhile. Before the oxycontin I was taking oxycodone. They were 5mg and I was instructed to take 2 every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain so I was taking 10mg every 5 hours or so. When my doctor switched me to oxycontin I was started with the 10mg. He upped it within a week because I felt more relief from the oxycodone immediate release. Get the picture?

Hey old-timers.... I was perusing the "official" dosing instructions for Pegasys on the pharma company site. After you poke yourself, you're supposed to pull back slightly on the plunger. They say if blood appears in the syringe, STOP and DISCARD the whole thing.

1. I know this indicates you've hit a vein, but whats the big deal - why do you have to stop? It's still going in the old body.

So this is probably not going to be very effective for you. The above information assumes you are taking one 15 oxycontin every 12 hours per dosing recommended by the pharmaceutical company. If your doctor prescribed the oxycontin to be taken more frequently than once every 12 hours, then your dose is probably ok.
Many doctors start out with the lowest dose and titrate up as needed so if you are experiencing more pain throughout the day, definitely voice this to your physician.

You don't need to go to anyone for medical help, but try to read the instructions more carefully. Over a longer term such a misunderstanding could cause problems. Usually the 50,000 unit dose is "once a week" for non-compliant patients who don't remember to take their pills.
ve been in oxycodone 10mg 4 a day and OxyContin 20mg 2 a day and due to other issues my pain Doc prescribed me the Fentanyl psych 25mg or mcg and took out OxyContin. Now two things.....1)my OxyContin was also used to treat tremors and restless arm syndrome, now that I'm off it, my restless issues and tremors are back and I'm trying to find out if I can do my OxyContin instead of oxycodone with the patch, but I would only do 20mg .
