Oxycontin chronic pain

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin chronic pain

oxycontin

Avatar m tn There are many other narcotic options other than oxycontin, however, what may work for one person may not work for another - therefore, it's virtually impossible to suggest what would be a good switch for you. You're best off discussing this with your doctor - simply be honest wtih him/her and tell them that the oxycontin is not working very well anymore and ask if there is anything they can do.

Avatar m tn hi i take 10mg of oxycontin three times a day for chronic pain. what are the risks if i become pregnant.
Avatar f tn To my knowledge chronic pain (cp) sufferers are never pain free. We all have a degree of pain every hour of the day. That's why it is called chronic pain. Ask what a average pain level is for a CP patient and I would guess that most of us run about a 5-6 normally and flares of 8-10 are not uncommon. If you are close to your mom and I bet you are, why don't you discuss her pain control with her. She may allow you to accompany to one of her physician appts.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the pain management community! I wouldn't rule out Oxycontin. Insurance plans vary wildly as I do not need prior authorization for Oxycontin and it only costs me $75 for a 30 day supply and there are others that have insurance which provides the medication at a cheaper price than that. So before ruling it out, be sure to get the cost information from your insurance. I am not taking Oxycontin but I did price it as it was a medication that was considered awhile back.
Avatar m tn Personally, I think we need a world wide health revolution. Treat the causes of dis-ease instead of the symptoms. Our society is way too instant gratification oriented, period. Pharma companies are profiting enough. Imagine what the billions of dollars spent on Oxy could do put towards medical research? Not to mention mental health and addictions, community support programs, low-cost housing... That's my mini-rant for the day.
1326416 tn?1370927001 THIS ISN'T REALLY A QUESTION, BUT A COMMENT! ----- My pain doctor has stopped writing any and all prescriptions for oxycontin and oxycodone. She was suspicious why some patients only wanted oxycontin or oxycodone for their pain, as well as patients claiming it's the only drug(s) that helped their pain. I understand the suspicion, and would wonder about the same thing myself, considering all the different pain medications available nowadays.
Avatar f tn Thanks, I have only had chronic pain for about two years now. Its been so hard to adjust. I do not like pain medications and often feel like a slave or zombie to my pain meds. Just like I cannot be free. Its gotten much worse in pregnancy and am often up a few times a night for a few hours laying around in agonizing pain just begging for it to subside to get rest so I can take care of my other girls. It hard to cope.
Avatar n tn I know someone who has been on OxyContin for about 9 years for Fibromyalgia pain. This person gets about 90 OxyContin a month. I personally think that is outrageous. I really wish the FDA would get rid of this drug completely.
Avatar m tn I heard the time released stuff works better for chronic pain, Does anybody have experiance with that who can help?
Avatar f tn I have the same problem. CHRONIC PAIN & ANXIETY. My Pain Dr has me taking Oxycontin & Percocet, while my Family Practitioner has me taking Lorazepam, Bupropion, and Venlafaxine. I have been taking this combination for several years now with good results except for occasional bouts of short term bouts (2 or 3 days) of depression and occasional panic attacks.
Avatar n tn In your case (and also in the cases of my chronic pain patients that have had their dose reduced through opioid rotation), you have ended up in withdrawal from the Oxycontin. Do you have breakthrough pain meds that you can use to help ease the withdrawal symptoms until you can see your doctor Monday morning and get a titration (or increase in dose) of MS Contin? I am so sorry that you ended up in withdrawal after opioid rotation. That is just awful!
539841 tn?1235394722 I have a standing order with a pain management dr that gives me oxycontin 40mgs 4 x per day for gout pain that comes from the kidney ailment among other things. I will not lie- I usually munch them up at the beggining of each day. makes me feel happy for about 5 to 6 hours. I know this is addict behaviour. I am an addict. I will not dare tell my dr this.
Avatar f tn Opiates can induce depression as can the fact that you have chronic pain. I hope you will consider seeking the help of a therapist. There are some that are very experienced in treating chronic pain patients. Feelings of despair can go hand in hand with the journey through pain. You are not alone but you need to reach out for help. Please let us know how you are doing. We are here to offer our support. I will look forward to hearing from you again soon.
2107861 tn?1346470646 I think your body will get used to it in time. I'd make sure to drink lots of fluids and maybe try a stool softener for a while, until you are used to the long acting oxycodone (oxycontin). Isn't it nice to have your pain medicines actually help alleviate your pain? Unfortunately most pain patients are vastly undertreated with pain medicines. It seems they are the last resort, even for people known to have long-term chronic pain. It's crazy but true! orry for getting off topic.
Avatar f tn before you know it you will be down to a lower dose without realizing it. The only problem you may have is if you are managing chronic pain. You can expect your pain levels to rise as you decrease your dose. But it should be tolerable. It may not even increase. It all depends on what your condition is or was when your began taking them in the first place.
686681 tn?1227305438 I take Lyrica, several diabetic medicines, 40 Mg Oxycontin three times a day with 10 Mg/325 Peercoset for blow over pain. I also take Skylantin for muscle pain. Over the past 10 years I have been to a book full of doctors and learned what to say and do and what not to. I currently go to a pain management doctor as well as an internist for diabetis. My current Pain guy has been great up to now and I like him but after 3 years going to him the problems have started.
Avatar f tn t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.
Avatar f tn I have been taking opiod medications for years for chronic pain. It is a quality of life situation, as I am disabled as a result of it. I am currently taking Percocet 7.5/500; however do not want a pain medication with tylenol. I am on another medication that is hard on the liver, so it is important that I stop this. My pain is also more resistant because of an arthritis component. Could anyone tell me what would be one step up from the Percocet that contains no tylenol.
Avatar m tn it is 25-40% stronger on mg to mg basis than morphine so it is a strong pain killer, but yes it is mainly used for getting ppl off of opiates, but methadone is the same thing but it is used quite frequently for chronic pain that needs round the clock pain management.
1029507 tn?1287714315 i just talked to my llmd nurse she told me when i come down we will talk about morphine for my pain, right now i take Oxycontin for pain she said that is just a short term help, she said that morphine works for chronic pain.
1325672 tn?1290084214 Is there another pharmacy you can go to? Most PM use morphine based drugs for chronic pain in my area (NC) and use the oxycodone for breakthrough... every doctor and patient are different. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Been on it 2 yrs. after 15 yrs. of high OxyContin usage for chronic pain from 7 failed S-I fusion attempts. I want to get off the Subutex due to the side effects and relief/widthdrawal see-saw every 6 hours. What do others use for chronic pain without going back on opiates? NSAIDS aren't an option due to erosive gastritis. Help!
Avatar m tn Good Evening and welcome to the Pain Management Clinic we are so glad that you have found us!! This Forum is CP (Chronic Pain) Patients ONLY. NO Dr.s at all on this Forum. We share our knowledge and expertise in different areas with each other. We hop that you will become an active member and share your experiences with all of us too!! I'm so very sorry for all of the surgeries and pain that you have been suffering from. I gather that you are not with a PM Clinc now from your question.
356518 tn?1322263642 Even having chronic medical problems—which includes chronic pain—did not increase risk for OxyContin addiction. If you do not have a personal or family history of addiction—especially if you have never suffered psychiatric problems like depression, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and especially if you are middle-aged or older—your risk for developing addiction during pain treatment is “vanishingly low,” says Portenoy.
Avatar f tn s ok for a tox screen to show oxycontin when prescribed by a physician. Does anyone suffer from chronic pain. I started having surgeries in my thirties due to bone on bone. I've had several procedures on my feet. My hands are horribly arthritic even though no close women or men have had symptoms. Has anyone had hand joint replacement? I am discouraged and I wonder if I will have any relief even with joint replacement in my hands should I decide to do it. Thanks again.
