Oxycontin and percocet

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin and percocet

oxycontin

Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar f tn I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn 5/325 percocet and 10 mg oxycontin i still have some of both. i am down to 1 percocet a day (1/2 in mid am and 1/2 mid pm) and 1 oxy at night. At what point should i just stop? Thanks for any input this is a great site!
203003 tn?1210855907 Ive never heard of a Percocet 30mg, but Percocet and Oxycontin are not the same thing...I believe that Oxycontin is time released while Percocet is not...please someone correct me if Im wrong...hope this helps!
667913 tn?1242700488 Oxycontin is slow release and you don't have to take it as often(usually every 12 hours). Oxycodone is faster release. Percocet is oxycodone but it also comes stronger. Does she have a history of drug dependence?
Avatar f tn The side effect of euphoria is what makes percocet and the long acting form (oxycontin) so addicting. Chasing that effect will require you to take more and more of the medication. And the goal of pain relief will become secondary. The reason why you didn't feel this with the oxycontin is because the medicine is on a time released schedule to be released over a 12 hour period.
558096 tn?1255887002 Maybe I can shed some light. I won't attempt to identify drugs as the moderators post asks us not to. I've taken Percocet (forever) and OxyContin (6 months) with OxyIR (6 months). Percocet in my body is vastly different than OxyContin and OxyIR. I found they had next to nothing in common. I have serious chronic pain that has lasted since June of 2007 and right now it's cranking me up so bad that I'm really just getting by.
699217 tn?1323438700 Here is the easiest way to look at it, (i think?) ... Percocet has tylenol in it, however, oxycodone and oxycontin are just straight percocet, no tylenol. I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab.
Avatar m tn re worried about, you could be changed to straight oxycodone. Oxycontin and oxycodone are essentially the same medication, with the oxycontin being time released and the oxycodone immediate release. Sometimes a long-acting med can help manage your pain better and you can stay at lower dosages, though it seems most people need something for breakthrough pain.
Avatar m tn Is Percocet the same thing as oxycontin, only in a non time release formula? I heard the time released stuff works better for chronic pain, Does anybody have experiance with that who can help?
Avatar n tn I went down to the 50 mcg patch and then went from the patch to oxycontin with percocet for breakthrough pain. Eventually, I got off of the oxycontin and just tapered the percocet down until I got down to 7.5 mg and then went off. I think you can just substitute the oxycontin and then gradually go down from there. I was on the meds for 12 years and went off last December.
Avatar m tn The hospital staff said I neede to stop all blood thinnig drugs (aspirin, fish oil, advil, etc) but did not say anything about pain mends (Oxycontin 4mg 2x day and Norco for the breakthrough pain (10 - 50 mg per day depending) Can I take the pain meds right up to the surgery?
Avatar f tn oxycodone is the drug in percocet and oxycontin. Oxycontin is just a brand name.
1326416 tn?1370927001 ----- My pain doctor has stopped writing any and all prescriptions for oxycontin and oxycodone. She was suspicious why some patients only wanted oxycontin or oxycodone for their pain, as well as patients claiming it's the only drug(s) that helped their pain. I understand the suspicion, and would wonder about the same thing myself, considering all the different pain medications available nowadays.
Avatar f tn My question is this - it seems like it is easier for me to go off the oxycontin completely and then taper off with the percocet by taking a little when I get sick and tapering off the percocet. I have all the thomas recipe stuff but I will tell you when I get sick, I am in sheer torture. It isn't like the flu. It is unbearable how horrible I feel. I cannot function. I am uncomfortable even laying in a stupor of sickness.
135691 tn?1271097123 m totally confused because the doctor who ordered them said to take them only once every 12 hours and take my percocets for breakthrough pain relief. I had to take a percocet this afternoon and was so SICK. Is my system just not used to them? Does this sound like an appropriate dose? Bottom line - is there anyone else here who takes oxycontin for pain relief? I'm curious to know what your dose is and how you cope with it...I also find I'm really itchy - is this normal?
922573 tn?1304099329 Not knowing at the time that the pain would be chronic (nerve damage), I asked to be taken off of oxycontin and just took percocet as needed. Now that I know the pain is not going away, perhaps a low dose of something long acting would make more sense. At any rate, a discussion with my doctor is obviously necessary. It is ridiculous for me not to have adequate pain relief when there is surely something out there to help.
Avatar f tn Hi All ... I am taking Oxycontin 40mg 3x a day and Percocet 10/325 3 x a day ... I want to taper down and jump off at the lowest dose possible ... can some of you give me advice on how you would taper .. how much to taper over a day week and over how long a period of time... This is my third attempt ... I am praying that the third time is the charm ..
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
356518 tn?1322263642 I have to be honest with you I have not taken pure oxycontin, however I have taken percocet 7.5/350 and have not had to return to my dr. Now maybe it is different for pure oxycontin. Now my dr is putting my on Kadian and I don't really feel that I will have problems getting it. Now that is my dr.
Avatar f tn Hi, Yes you can be slowly weaned off of the Oxycontin. The first trimester is the most important and you need to see your OB ASAP to find a suitable pain medication regimine since your pregnant. it is so very important to the baby.
Avatar m tn They have me on 30 mg oxycontin, twice daily, 10/325 percocet 6 a day, soma 4 times daily and xanax 2 mg for anxiety. What are my options for the breakthrough pain, that is what I am taking the percocet for and I need to stop with the Tylenol already enough is enough. I talked with my doc last time I was there to see her, and this is when she switched me to the percocet from Vicoprofen, due to the fact that it was doing nothing for the pain.
