Avatar n tn I have worked with patients for over 8 years, as a counselor for drug/alcohol and just heard of my first client to say he was being treated for his Hep C with Oxycotin. What are the benefits or possible reasons for this?
Avatar n tn I spent about 25 years Bartending, and saw enough of what people do when drunk. It is the worst drug ever (alcohol). Pills, YEAH! I know all about all kinds of pills that give all kinds of thrills, and now look, I'm an Oxycontin Addict. I get Valium, but rarely, if ever take one. Trazadone, in my opinion, is the best sleep aid out there. It's an antidepressent, but in 150mg. and up. Less than that, say 50mg. or 100mg. make one hell of a sleeping pill. No hangover and great sleep.

Avatar n tn Anyhow, ever since my addiction to oxycontin, I have disposed of alcohol completely. I am afraid I will die with both. Because I take 160 mgs of oxycontin a day and If I drink my Jack, which I miss greatly!, I will get sick as a rabid dog, I am sure. I miss it alot, but I now you can stop. Although, you have no substitute, like I had my pain pills, you can create a hobby, or exercise, maybe build a model or do ceramics....
Avatar f tn I do not have a history or drug or alcohol abuse and neither does anyone in my family. I need a medication that lasts longer through the night so I can get some sleep! I am not against Oxycotin, etc. for the right person. Thanks for the help. :) I am a very strong person, but I am also extremely cautious about taking stronger pain medications. Any ideas are appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone new about the side effects of Oxycontin. I am currently taking 60 mg. 3 times a day for chronic pain. I have notice among other things that my sex drive has pretty much disappeared and that I have real problems getting erections if I may be so bold here. So I was wondering if anyone knows if that is a normal side effect of this drug. Also sweating and chills seem to be happening alot.
Avatar f tn hi. alcohol can do a number on the nervous system and the effects can last from a few hours to becoming permanent. this is dependent on a lot of things such as consumption, pre-existing conditions and nutrition. as stated above, the safest thing to do would be to address these issues with a physician that you can be honest with about your drinking.
2991133 tn?1340046931 my doc has me on Xanax 1mg and Oxycontin 30mg. every once in a while, I will take a pain pill then shortly there after I am having an anxiety attack. will it hurt to take both of my meds close together? this doesn't happen often. when I was on Oxycontin 15mg it didn't bother me.
Avatar f tn Apparently the naltrexone/naloxone disrupts the absorbtion of alcohol into the bloodstream and she could not ever feel the effects of the alcohol. I have also read of a treatment for alcoholics where they are prescibed daily doses of naltrexone for this reason. To prevent them feeling any "beneficial effects"of alcohol. I hope this helps to answer your question.
Avatar n tn I understand that mixing Xanax and Alcohol can have serious negative effects. However, my question is mainly about Xanax, and in regard to how long it stays in the system to the point where it is dangerous to mix with alcohol. (i.e., is it dangerous to drink alcohol after 1 day of not taking Xanax?..2 days? etc). Another question, how serious are the long-term effects of drinking alcohol WITH xanax?

Avatar m tn I have been taking Oxycontin for about a year, and presently take 120 mg a.m. and 120 mg p.m. I am on a patient assistance program for the Oxycontin. I also have a script for Percocet for breakthrough pain, but have only been taking that for a couple of months.
Avatar n tn I will be fine for several days and then suddenly I get sick to my stomach and start throwing up. The most current episode began on Tuesday night. I have zero appetite and force myself to eat. I have been down since then. Nothing seems to help. Im on 80 to 120m of oxy daily. I been continous for about a year. I was on vicodin for 3 yrs prior.
Avatar f tn My husband got off Oxycontin about a year ago. He had been taking 40 mg/day for about 8 months, for chronic pain. From what I've read in other posts, this sounds like a pretty low dose, but he, nonetheless, looked, sounded, and acted drugged, the whole time. He was irritable and yelled way more than he used to. Whenever he ran out of pills he would panic and complain until he found a doctor he could convince to prescribe him some more.
Avatar m tn oxycoton verses oxycodone effects and side effects and length of time to start reducing pain and how long the curveis.
Avatar n tn From personal experience (I take Lamictal and Seroquel), meds and alcohol do not mix very well. I have not had a seizure but I do not think it would be out of the question when mixing the two. I really can't give you a great answer because it is a huge unknown and I would rather not find out. It is better to play it safe. The only time I have ever blacked out was when I mixed the two - I would rather that not happen again. But also, it is hard to remain stable when consuming alcohol.
445725 tn?1206388767 Combining alcohol with antidepressants can greatly increase the effects of alcohol, which can include suppressing respiration and death.
Avatar m tn This is a very complicated question, and your doctor's actions are a bit confusing. buprenorphine has a 'ceiling' to the effects it creates, and that ceiling has effects about equal to the effects of taking oxycodone 60 mg. If you give buprenorphine to a person who is taking nigh doses of oxycodone, you usually cause withdrawal. I am surprised that you were able to add a buprenorphine patch, while taking oxycodone, without getting withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn This might seem crazy but it's been going on for about 4 months now. Everytime I drink, whether it be one drink or 5 drinks, I wake up about 1-2 hrs after I go to bed with a racing/pounding heart and I'm real hot and sweaty. It's almost like an anxiety attack. Alcohol has never bothered me before and I was wondering if anyone had a clue about what could be causing this.
Avatar f tn Third, enzymes activated by chronic alcohol consumption transform some drugs into toxic chemicals that can damage the liver or other organs. Fourth, alcohol can magnify the inhibitory effects of sedative and narcotic drugs at their sites of action in the brain. To add to the complexity of these interactions, some drugs affect the metabolism of alcohol, thus altering its potential for intoxication and the adverse effects associated with alcohol consumption.
Avatar f tn The side effect of euphoria is what makes percocet and the long acting form (oxycontin) so addicting. Chasing that effect will require you to take more and more of the medication. And the goal of pain relief will become secondary. The reason why you didn't feel this with the oxycontin is because the medicine is on a time released schedule to be released over a 12 hour period.
