Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Avatar f tn It is oxymorphone and it is strongest pain medication available in pill form based on pharmacology. The oxycodone in Oxycontin is metabolized by the liver into oxymorphone. Therefore, the Opana ER would be a drug that is very comparable to the Oxycontin, only twice as strong.
667913 tn?1242700488 Oxycodone is short term and oxycontin is slow release for long term. Very addicting. Have her get off now before she gets addicted. I have been on them for 3 to 4 years and they say that if you take it for the right reason, (for Chronic Pain) you will not get addicted. Thats bull. I am addicted and withdraws are so bad. This poison ruins lifes. Get her off now. It also makes your pain worse and makes you feel like you need stronger like it isn't doing anything and you have to take more.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I started Jan 9th and I was taking 60mg of OxyContin. This week if my first week off and I feel better than ever. I am clear, stopped forgetting things, I'm happy! And best of all I have LESS pain! I am still taking some Oxycondone for pain when needed but that is it. Anyone who is thinking of tapering, DO IT! You won't regret it!
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are having intolerable side effects from oxycodone. That means no oxycodone, whether it is a tablet, a capsule, immediate release or extended release Oxycontin. As the first replier stated, there are other medications out there that don't have oxycodone in them.
Avatar m tn hello, i curently take 80mgs of oxycontin three times a day, it does work but with uncomfortable side effects and im wondering what else i can take instead, its mostly stomach issues, i,e. nausia, my doctor has suggested hydromorphone, 24 mg twice dailly,im not sure of what to do, ive heard conflicting stories about hydromorphone.
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
Avatar f tn I'm on so much medicine for my chronic pain and they are always changing it. A lot of times, I end up cutting my dose in half if I think I don't need as much but still need something. Okay, right now, before I had my coffee, I made a mistake. I cut 1/2 my oxycontin 40 mg. in half thinking it was my 30 mg, oxycodone. I had already taken my 40 mg. oxycontin at around 6 am like I'm supposed to. Went back to sleep and woke up to take my break through and accidently broke the 40 mg.
Avatar m tn Could you give more details of your test and condition? What is your question?
Avatar f tn For some who get great analgesia from methadone, other medications can help with the side effects. For example, I used ritalin for the years I was using methadone. It kept me from falling asleep behind the wheel, and improved my ability to reason, greatly. If the methadone is a good pain reliever (for me, it was the best), ask your doctor if he/she would be willing to try a stimulant medication like long acting methylphenidate or Adderral XL to minimize your methadone side effects.
Avatar m tn I was on oxycodone 10 to 20mg/day for about 2 months before the surgery for pain (taking at night to let me sleep). After surgery I went home on 80mg/day -- 10mg OxyContin 2x/day and 10mg oxycodone every 4 hours. After 2 weeks I started reducing the dosage. I got down to about 30mg/day (the OxyContin 2x/day and 10mg oxycodone - 5mg at bedtime and another 5mg in the middle of the night when I would wake up).
Avatar f tn I have morphine cr 45mg 3x/day which I asked to change due to side effects. Dr put me on Oxycodone 20mg 4x/day. After my back surgery recuperation I want to stop the meds. Which one should I be on for an easier withdrawal. I am scared because I have been on this for ages. When I have the surgery I can ask the dr to use the med that would be easier for me to withdraw so what do you think.
Avatar f tn I am in such a horrible trap. I thought by switching to Belbuca I could manage the pain with less side effects, as this is what I have been told. Any comments/insight on the differences in Belbuca and Oxycodone, I would love to hear from you.
175734 tn?1225134440 A lot depends on how the drug effects you. I have heard methodone has little side effects but getting off it can be a horror story on it's own. There will be more experienced ppl on the forum that can better answer your question. I too am working with my CPC to find a long lasting pain med that "works" for me without side effects.
