oxycodone vs hydrocodone oxycontin

I wanted to know what the difference is between hydrocodone and like-oxycontin or oxycodone, Percocet, tramadol, is this all just types of hydrocodone? All I ever took was hydrocodone....

I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?

Would it be better to try to wean off the Oxycontin long lasting pills or the Oxycodone sort acting pills or the muscle relaxers??? Has anyone else been ok on Oxycodone but not Hydrocodone? It's surprising that am ok on the stronger one! Any suggestions for a substitute for Hydrocodone? I know everyone's healing process is biddefernt and this is a major surgery, but any idea how long do you think I will need to take something? I'm ready to feel normal again!

I am not sure they make the 160mg anymroe, but they do still make the 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, and 80mg oxycontin(which is a time-released oxycodone) Much stronger.

Not sure if you are talking about oxycontin or oxycodone pills in various mixes and forms. Either way, oxycontin and percoccet have the narcotic oxycodone in it. Oxycontin is pure oxycodone in a time release form while percoccet is a mix of oxycodone and another OTC pain reliever. Oxycodone is a stronger narcotic then the narcotic in vicodin which is hydrocodone. Both will cause WD. The WD from oxycodone was always much worse for me then hydrocodone but some say it's the same.

The lowest amount of tylenol that I know of that comes with hydrocodone would be in Norco tablets. They contain 10mg of the hydrocodone and only 325mg of tylenol. Maybe talk to your doctor about switching you to oxycodone instead? Oxycodone comes in tablet form that's just pure oxycodone, it has no tylenol or acetaminophen in it at all. It's stronger than hydrocodone, too, so the 5mg tablet (the smallest one they make) might even work as well for you as the 7.5mg vicodin.

I was actually wondering why your doctor did not try this or another ER medication before trying the patch. I am taking the Oxycontin and it has worked well for me. I also started out on hydrocodone. I believe it would be better for you as it is in a lower class than the ER versions of oxycodone and MS Contin and others in this class. Talk to your doctor about one of these drugs and save the patch for when/if you need a stronger medication than the Fentanyl.

Actually the hydrocodone I saw, the little red beads were the actual hydrocodone, not naloxone, so guess its different...now tell me if Im mistaken but arent there oxycontin now available that people are unable to shoot up? I just remember some people who I knew who did shoot them being upset when they couldnt get the original little round oxy's. As I remember they were shaped like a football and about 3times the size of a normal oxy. So I guess we are talking about two different things.

I'm taking 1-2 Hydrocodone 10/325 every 4-6 hours and I think that after 5 years at this dose I need something else...this keeps me right at the tear level on the charts..but the nausea and side effects from the Tylenol stuff adds to the problem...question is how to get my doc to understand? I was told that i should be on Oxycontin with no acetaminophen stuff...help??? I know it wont take the pain away...I'm just looking to be able to "deal" with it...

are just trademarked names for the generics (hydrocodone and oxycodone)...also, those opiates can be combined with other analgesics instead of tylenol....example, "Percodan" is oxycodone with aspirin. Sorry...hope I didn't confuse you...but while the drugs are very similar, and both strong opiates, there are a lot of differences, which people do not always realize.

Oxycodone is short term and oxycontin is slow release for long term. Very addicting. Have her get off now before she gets addicted. I have been on them for 3 to 4 years and they say that if you take it for the right reason, (for Chronic Pain) you will not get addicted. Thats bull. I am addicted and withdraws are so bad. This poison ruins lifes. Get her off now. It also makes your pain worse and makes you feel like you need stronger like it isn't doing anything and you have to take more.

I tire easy. I have taken OxyContin. Indeed I took it for several years. I didn't feel it was a awesome pain reliever - it was effective but not the end all be all. Initially I was on Hydrocodone for beak-through pain.

I started Jan 9th and I was taking 60mg of OxyContin. This week if my first week off and I feel better than ever. I am clear, stopped forgetting things, I'm happy! And best of all I have LESS pain! I am still taking some Oxycondone for pain when needed but that is it. Anyone who is thinking of tapering, DO IT! You won't regret it!

12 panel but they dont test for vicodin (hydrocodone) they test for oxycodone and opiates that are metabolized into morphine in the body, such as oxycontin, dilaudid, heroin and of course morphine. According to the pharmacist hydrocodone isnt considered dangerous enough to be tested for. I asked her 'do they live in a bubble or something??

Actually Vicodin has Hydrocodone with acitominophen. Oxycodone is in percocet and Oxycontin to name a few. Oxycodone is much stronger than hydrocodone. I agree in just asking what the packets are, show concern not judgment. It could be cocaine, speed, heroin, etc...

NOT oxymorphone dear, oxycodone. Oxycontin has the sole active ingredient oxycodone, Perocet has both oxycodone and acetaminophen...hence the "cet" suffix. Theres also Percoden which is oxycodone and asprin. Oxymorphone is a totally different drug 2x the strenth of oxycodone.
