Oxycodone vs dilaudid

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone vs dilaudid

oxycontin

Avatar m tn Dilaudid is a much stronger narcotic than oxycodone ( oxycodone is the narcotic ingredient in percocet). Percocet is tylenol and oxycodone combined. I think you will have much better pain control with the dilaudid for sure.
Avatar f tn Sorry I missed one part of your question. Backhurtz is correct that the doctor is giving you dilaudid to take instead of the Oxycodone. That being said, you might want to call and ask what he or she wants you to do if they were not clear about it. Most times when I change meds my doctor gives me a written plan that entails reducing the drug I was on while at the same time increasing the drug he now wants me to take until I am completely switched over to the new drug.
Avatar m tn u r citing several different narcotics to stop a narcotic u r already on..some even stronger than the one u r on..dilaudid is not absorbed well orally...perhaos stop the IM injections and taper down fron the dilaudid slowly...morphine is another drug that is not absorbed well orally...dilaudid and morphine r usually an IV drug abusers choice vs a pill popper's choice..heroin is the street form of heroin...not a very sought after drug for oral use and neither is dilaudid...
Avatar f tn 150 mgs of oxy is not near what u were on before..opana is strong..and so is dilaudid...oxycodone will not be near as tough..doesnt sound as if u have a mental problem??? altho the doses of the opana and dilaudid u state r high/suggesting tolerence ie long term use of narcotics....and only 3 weeks ago so possibly a bit of residual...alot depends on u and ur mental status with all of this..we r all different...one could do well with a drug or dose that can give someone else a hissy fit..
Avatar m tn I started Dilaudid when I became too tolerant to Oxycodone. I am so happy with the pain relief it gives me. It is hands down more effective for me than any of the other drugs I was prescribed before it. The difference between the Dilaudid and the Oxycodones (both forms, ER, and IR) is amazing to me. I don't get all the loopy side effects at all, nor do I feel withdrawal symptoms if I skip a pill... and because of that, I'll never go back on the Oxys.
Avatar n tn I have tried the fentaynl patch 50 mcg also oxycodone 10 mg 3 x day and oxycontin 30mg 3 x day.and that did not help either.I have a weird tolerance.try to tell that to a doctor they label you a drug seeker.I just decided not to take anymore and the withdrawl symptons are starting. What can I do?This Sept.08 I stopped taking the oxycontin and oxycodone at home boy was that bad.Vomiting, diarrahea, feeling crappy..etc...What can I do besides that again?
1590996 tn?1297089523 I have submitted two samples of urine on two different occasions 6-8 weeks apart and both results came back showing my Dilaudid but also showing *trace* amounts of Oxycodone in my urine sample. Why could this be happening to me? It is threatening my treatment and making me look dishonest to my new doctor, as people who DO use drugs they are not prescribed and street drugs always say they didnt' use them when their results come back positive.
Avatar m tn Lastly, Fentanyl is one of the the better medications for those with renal (kidney) or heptic (liver) impairement. Dilaudid is as well. Oxycodone (with and without tylenol) and Hydrocodone are both not recommended due to the additional metabolism by the liver into oxymorphone and hydromorphone, respectively. There is still some work on the liver regardless to process opioids but Fentanyl, Dilaudid (hydromorphone), and Opana (oxymorphone) put less strain on the liver.
Avatar n tn dilaudid-5 is the liquid 1mg per ml form of hydromorphone dilaudid i was wondering how effective it is, i was gonna have my doctor change my oxycodone liquid to diaudid liquid.
Avatar f tn I currently take about four Dilaudid 4's each day. I would like to quit, but I, too, am frightened at the thought of wd's. Is this considered a large amount and if so, is it a bad time when going through withdrawals? Is c/t my best bet? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
374225 tn?1269899262 My doctor almost gave me dilaudid today for pain but the changed his mind and left me on oxycodone even though it's not working. Do you know why he would have done that?
Avatar n tn Is on oxycodone and heart medications. Is now talking totally off topic when having a conversation. Has been on both for awhile. Ex.
Avatar n tn My doctor decided to switch me from 2 10/325 norco 6x per day to one 8mg dilaudid 4 times per day. I am not sure how much stronger the dilaudid is from the dose or norco I was taking, and I do not understand those narcotic equivalancy calculators. Can someone with experience please help me understand how much stronger this medication is? The only other medication I take is xanax .5 twice daily.
676071 tn?1266875685 The PM has prescribed gabapentin which is suppose to make the dilaudid last longer. I take dilaudid 3 times a day which is less then what it is prescribed for but it still is a concern for me long term!
Avatar f tn I took my last dilaudid pill today at 6pm. I am beginning subutex maintance through a physician tomarrow. my question is how long do I have to wait to take my first dose without experiencing withdrawls?
Avatar n tn I only ask because I find it strange for someone to prescribe both percocoet and dilaudid(oxycodone and hydromorphone) together unless they were being rotated out every few weeks so they wouldn't lose effectiveness. But even then. I think the doctor of the patient would know best or getting the patient into a pain management doctor if not already. Pain management doctors specialiaze in pain and alternatives that help pain that many M.D's aren't nessesarily aware of.
Avatar f tn My doc also switched me to dilaudid for back and joint pain as it is less addictive than oxycodone, no acetaminophen like T3's and has minimal effect on the liver. Here in Canada acetaminophen is acceptable up to 4 g/day with a healthy liver. At 650mg every 4 hr you are getting roughly 3.25 g/day so I would definitely switch to the dilaudid. All in all less is better for your liver anyway.
574735 tn?1232930123 I have a medical condition which requires me to take 40ml of Oxycontin twice a day, and 10ml of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain every four hours. I am concerned about becoming addicted to this drug. How can I wean myself even though I still need them for pain? Should I just start taking them as needed?
Avatar m tn 3 months ago I was hospitalized for a bad infection and had to have 2 surgeries. While in the hospital for 13 days I was on morphine/dilaudid. When released they put me on Oxycodone because I am on a wound vac and have home nurses come in 3 times a week. My primary doctor didn't want to prescribe more Oxycodone so he prescribed Tramadol. I have been on some sort of pain medication since March 10th. I stopped having pain from the wound and wound treatments so stopped the Tramadol.
Avatar n tn ve done some research and found that Dilaudid comes in a parenteral(injectable)form for opoid tolerant pts, for BT pain. I don't want to resort to having to inject myself everytime I experience episodes of BT pain, but I'm to the point that I'm willing to try anything that will work. I have never achieved any relief from PO Dilaudid, however, when in the hospital, the IV form is the only med that gives me pain relief.
7091144 tn?1387989943 I have quit CT from a high Oxycodone habit and from an IV Dilaudid-Roxicodone habit. Before adding Dilaudid to the Roxi, I injected 7-8, 15mg. tabs to start and redosed several times a day. Taking Oxycodone orally or intranasally, had no effect on me. When I quit the Oxycodone without the Dilaudid, I spent 4-5 days in bed with some rough physical WD's but the psychological WD's were even worse than the IV Dilaudid WD's. The Dilaudid was much worse physically. My OXY WD's...
Avatar f tn The 10 mg dose is equivalent to about 20 mg of oxycodone. It is a step down but you could combine a 5 mg and a 10 mg tablet to equal 30 mg of oxycodone. Because of incomplete cross tolerance due to Opana IR (oxymorphone) being a totally different opioid, you could have great success with it as a breakthrough pain med. Dilaudid and Opana IR are the only IR pills stronger than oxycodone on the market. The next tier up would be the fentanyl lollipops or buccal tablets. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Dilaudid is very strong and highly addictive. Stop taking it and go back to the ER and ask them for something much weaker. Norco should be adequate.
