Oxycodone vs codeine

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone vs codeine

oxycontin

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew the differences between Oxycodone and Tylenol w/Codeine?? I know they both have acetomenophen. But, the Tylenol with Codeine has Codeine obviously. I was taking the one with 30mg. of codeine. Now I have Oxycodone 7.5-325. What is the opiad in this drug? Is it also codeine, or a different drug? I know my body's reaction to the T3, so I am a little nervous to try this new one....oxycodone. Is it stronger, not as strong, the same???
By assaying the levels of these substances in the blood or urine, the lab can determine, with some degree of certainty, which particular medication you're using -- codeine, oxycodone, morphine, hydromorphone, etc. However, these tests can be wrong because of differences in our individual ability to make specific enzymes for the metabolism of these medications.
For example, for some opiates, the administered medication is a 'prodrug' that must be converted to the active drug by the liver; an example is the conversion of codeine to morphine, which is more efficient in some people than in others. There is also wide variation in the degree of nausea produced by different medications in different people. I do not know of any evidence that hydromorphone is better tolerated overall than oxycodone.
It is spelt Codeine, and it really sucks, get the Hydrocodone or Dihydrocodeine,or the oxycodone or maybe oxymorphone, then again why not morphine?.Codeine makes me SICK.Did you know that even though Codeine is a "Natural" Opioid all of the Medical Supplies are actually made by Methylating Morphine in a Pharmaceutical laboratory(not exactly natural)is it then?. Go the Morphine, kill to get it if you have to,well maybe a few Opium Poppies anyway.
When I was pregnant with my son, I was gven 5mg lortabs in my 2nd trimestor only, and was instructed to take them only when the pain was to the point that I couldn't handle it anymore, and to not take them consistantly (to avoid addiction) She was even sketchy about giving me those. Oxycodone is a lot stronger than a lortab. You can also google oxycodone and pregnancy to find more information. Please do not take any of those untill you speak with your doctor.
Percocet (oxycodone) is stronger than Vicodin (hydrocodone). Percocet is typical prescribed in 5mg doses. Hydrocodone is also typically prescribed in 5mg doses. At these levels percocet is definitly the stronger drug. Norco a brand of hydrocodone that comes in 10mg pills, and is there for equivalent to 2 normal hydro pills. People get confused and think it is stronger because they are taking two pills in one.
I've had migraines since I was a teenager that within the past four to five years have become chronic. Within those last few years my doctors have been prescribing hydrocodone to fioricet with codeine (not at the same time). I am -very- aware of how addicted I get to both of these but am absolutely terrified of getting off the pain killers because of the pain I have everyday. I have been taking either at about 4-6 a day.
Hydrocodone (schedule III, in bulk formulations only containing hydrocodone its schedule II) is a opioid that is a mild potency opioid, in between codeine and oxycodone. Oxycodone (Percocet, Oxycontin, Tylox) is about 50% stronger than hydrocodone , where as hydrocodone is about 50% stronger than codeine.
But for anyone addicted to opiates, even codeine is very addictive! As I just wrote in another post, Suboxone is not used as much for 'getting off opiates' as it first was; the paradigm has shifted as data has been collected, showing ('duh', for some of us who understand addiction!
Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid that is made chemically (usually from thebaine). Compared to morphine, it has a methyl group added to the 3 position oxygen (like codeine), it has a ketone group in the 6 position instead of a hydroxyl group, it lacks the double bond between carbons 7 and 8, and it has a hydroxy group attached to the 14 position. It's about 1.5 times stronger than morphine when taken orally , this is probably why it offers better relief for you.
He wouldn't return any of my calls so I went to the emergency room for withdrawal. They gave me Antibiotics, an in-haler, and OXYCODONE, till I could get back with my Doctor. Crap!, I didn't even want the Oxycodone, just the cough syrup. I've had Hydrocodone pills from Dentist visits lying around for years that I never took, till I found out that it was the hydrocodone and no other substance, that was suppressing the urge to cough.

In other words, let's say you were taking 10mg oxycodone in short acting form (percocet) three times a day, you would be taking a total of 30mg of oxycodone. However, if you are prescribed 10 mg oxycontin (long acting version of oxycodone minus the acetaminophen that is in percocet) every 12 hours, you would only be taking a total of 20mg of the narcotic a day.
Here is a link hope it helps... mmediate-release oxycodone has not been formally assigned to a pregnancy category by the FDA. Some combination products that contain oxycodone (such as Percocet and Tylox) are assigned to pregnancy category C. Controlled-release oxycodone has been assigned to pregnancy category B. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
I have been wasting all of my money on oxycodone. I had a great job that I started 6 yrs. ago and then about 2 yrs. ago I started. I gained 40 pounds because of the drug but I couldn't stop; I became an awesome liar. I told everyone I had a medical issue then the lies just kept on coming; I think if there were a contest I would win "Liar of the Year." Anyhow!!
Codeine is converted to morphine in the liver (to varying degrees in different cultural populations), so from a practical standpoint there is no difference between an addiction to nurophen vs any other opiate, such as oxycodone or heroin. The ibuprofen is more physically harmful than the codeine (with the exception of overdose, when codeine will kill person through respiratory depression just as will other opiates, particularly if combined with valium-type meds or alcohol).
At the top click on clinical information. Scroll down to morphine vs oxycodone vs the patch. This should help out with the comparisons of the pain meds.
So far no tolerance issues and I've been on this dose for almost a year. I don't think that there would be any harm in trying it vs oxycodone. Good luck in what ever you and your docs decide.
Percocet is actually stronger (although it is 5mg of oxycodone vs. 10mg of hydrocodone with the Lorcet). You are better off simply slowly tapering down off the Lorcet. I've done it several times, from a high of 25 Lorcet a day. If you are at 20 a day, if you have enough Lorcet simply go down by 1 per day (spreading it across your normal dose). For example, if you take 5 four times a day, then the first day of the taper take 4.75 four times; the next day 4.5, and so on.
In simple terms morphine is like the strongest form of codeine and oxycodone (in that order b/c codeine is an extremely weak opiate) oxycodone is a quite strong opiate but these 3 are all in the "morphine family" derivatives of morphine. Here's the thing, with a lot of opiate addicts, if they are or were hooked on something in one "opiate family" they will be much more likely to get "hooked" on something in that same family again.
Hydrocodone is simply a weaker formulary than the oxycodone. Oxycontin pertains to the method of time release dosing of oxycodone. Codeine would be weaker yet even. But the absolutely worst withdrawal is the one that you are currently going through.
, very strong analgesic, very addictive, mainly used for treatment for addition, but is becoming more an more common for chronic pain relief), then there is oxycontin(time release oxycodone) and ms contin(morphine time release), both of these have become major abuse problems in the us and worldwide, ppl find that after sucking the coating off and chopping the pill up you get all the oxycodone all at once giving a rush identical to heorin.
When calling them in over the phone, the doc is seeing a bunch of other patients and doing a million different things so when a refill is asked for they just fill what you had or something like that vs. talking to him face to face and asking him for what you would like to do. Since you can trust your wife with the pills this makes for an ideal tapering situation so she can give you a certain dose each day at a certain time and gradually lower the amount you are taking.
can anyone tell me what to expect with regard to how this new medicine may affect me vs. the percocets I've been taking? I had to switch because the percocets weren't doing the job very well. I've built up a tolerance to them. Thanks for any info or advice.
I can’t tell you the number of patients we receive for detoxification that were given a prescription for Vicodin for a minor pain, like a backache or tooth pain, which eventually led them to take a stronger opiate like oxycodone, creating a domino effect. It’s become a trend in this country for medical professionals to write prescriptions for hydrocodone drugs too quickly, which is creating an epidemic of these drugs being overprescribed to patients who often times don’t need them.
They do not show up as hydrocodone, oxycodone, codeine, morphine,or heroin. A clinic has no way of knowing if your on heroin or vicodin. All morphine based opiates that are listed above show up as opiates. The only ones that show up otherwise are synthetics like propoxyphene and methadone. Think about it. Best Wishes,Happy Holidays! I was on oxycodone for about three years after breaking my neck in the military and having a few surgeries. My physical pain is now better and i've been trying to get off the oxcy's so my doctor gave me percocet today. 10/325 3-4 times per day. I want to be off of these completely and am seeing a different doctor on Monday but found this forum and thought I could get some help and support here. So where do I begin? Do I just stop.
With all my health issues, I know I can't go ct. I will only go to a hospital vs. rehab because I know I need IV hydration. Anyway, I am just struggling and don't know what to do. If anyone has any hospital detox experience, please let me know... Love you all my MH friends, you make all the difference in the world...
I know that she has things to say about the brand name vs. the generic (the glue and the size of the patch can be different sometimes). Also, sometimes I found out that she didn't know about but I recently told her, did you know that it comes as a lollipop too? I thought that was kind of neat. But, the patch is the version of it that lasts for days, the lollipop version doesn't do that.
