Oxycodone shortage

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone shortage

oxycontin

I was doing alot of research last night on the shortage and I have seen that alot of people are going to the compound pharmacy to get their 30 mg. They are compounding it with ginger in the Tampa area I know and some other areas too. It seems they are expensive though at 5 bucks a pill:( I called mallinckrodt last night also and they say that the shortage will soon end.
I am posting this to help those who have legitimate pain and who are suffering through this oxycodone shortage. Hope this doesn't offens anyone!
I live in WA state and have been prescribed Oxycodone by my Dr twice. Each time I went to get the prescriptions filled I was told that they were out of it and it was on back order due to some problem with the manufacturer. I went to 3 different pharmacies and got the same story. Is there something I should know here? Also both prescriptions were subsituted with Hydrocodone which contain acetaminophen. Due to my condition I am not supposed to take anything containing acetaminophen.
A lot of the chemicals that your brain would create normally become inactive during abuse, so it takes time for your body to recognize this shortage and begin manufacturing those chemicals again. One of these chemicals is Melatonin, which helps you regulate your sleep patterns.
Now with this shortage his doctor has to switch his oxycodone. what would help as well as the oxy with out major side effects.
there are many companies around the world who make short acting oxycodone preparations. no shortage here (oz). don't know why other sources haven't been fully utilised. not good for ppl who really rely on it.
my husband was addicted to morphine...we never had a shortage of pills....id buy off the streets...so there's my short version. In active addiction...nobody or nothing will make us stop until WE want to stop! addicts can go to jail rehab loose everything and still use. but when we decide to stop only then will we stop. you can talk til your blue in the face...cry a lakeful of tears....threaten to leave and we will continue to USE!!
I tried to fill my rx for Oxycodone 10/325 at 6 different Pharmacies and none had it in stock. They said either it would be a week, 2 weeks, or they had no idea. I am in too much pain to run around checking, so I sent a family member. I also called a phcy and I felt as if they were lying to me. In fact I feel that they are all lying! It is a legit rx from my pain mngmnt Dr. who writes it every month. I've never had a problem before. I'm in Winter Haven, FL. TY for any help that you can give me!
Those two medications are very similar; I wonder if the change is because of the oxycodone shortage that was striking much of the country awhile back. Opana, on a mg to mg basis, is about twice as potent as oxycodone. Percocet comes in different strengths. If he moved you from a ten mg percocet to a ten mg opana, he doubled you dose of pain medication, and that will cause bad gas, your stomach won't feel great, you will get a bit nauseous, and you might get a tad constipated.
There is plenty of good information and no shortage of support and compassionate ears and hearts. I've been a member since May this year, and have picked up a good deal of information. I take Cymbalta, 120 mg daily and it has has “worked wonders” for severe testicular pain that has plagued me for several years. I take it along with Gabapentin (Neurontin) 2700 mg daily and Oxycodone up to 60 mg daily.
Is it only the 30mg roxycodone that everyone is having such a hard time getting. I get the 10mg oxycodone and have had no problem. You could just double or triple the dose if you need to. At least here there is no short supply of that one. Maybe you could call around and check and if it is available let your doctor know. Just a suggestion. I have had a pharmacy give me oxycontin twice instead of oxycodone. I have to tell them everytime that it is the instant relief not extended.
As you probely know, the 5mg Oxycodone tabs are no longer available because of a nation wide shortage and because of Ethex going out of business. The Pharmacy tried to give me the 5mg Oxycodone capsules and to our suprise, it isn't covered by Medicare because of the increase in price. You are not alone in this prescription battle. Unfortunately, you will have to get you Doc to sign a form stating that you really need this particular med. Only then will they cover the drug.
I don't know but I would think they would prescribe oxycodone or oxycontin. I doubt they'd prescribe anything with Tylenol in it. Do you have an affiliation with a pain clinic yet? Make sure it's a good one. Sounds like you need to get in touch with your doctor and figure out a better plan than you have now.
The drugs most affected by this action are opioid pain relievers that are combined with acetaminophen like codeine (Tylenol #3), hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab) and oxycodone (Percocet). “FDA is taking this action to make prescription combination pain medications containing acetaminophen safer for patients to use,” said Sandra Kweder, M.D., deputy director of the Office of New Drugs in FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
One way it may affect me, though, is that there will be more people using pharmacies for oxycodone, yet no lift on the controlled amount of oxycodone that the pharmacies recieve. I am going to call the Walgreens and find out if they'll be able to fill the prescription, if they'll even tell me as I would prefer to keep the medication the same for the next couple of months until the baby is born. However, I am not set on the oxycodone.
The generics were stopped due to Purdue suing the companies making them and they won the suit therefore the generic companies are not allowed to make it any longer. True there was a shortage of the short acting oxycodone and the IR version but that is over with now.
If you'll need the same amount every month, it's possible they could do that. Last year all the pharmacies around here had a shortage on oxycodone. I found some that I called would not reveal whether they had it in stock or not and they needed to see the actual prescription. I did find one who was willing to order it every month and one who ordered it to be mailed to my house by the next day. I hope you'll be able to find a pharmacy that can order it for you.
I know alot of members have been having a really hard time finding oxycodone in stock or at a reasonable price, I too have had this problem. I refuse to pay the outragous prices that are being charged and most will not accept insurance so I went in to my appointment today dreading it as I had already decided I was not going to get my normal prescriptions the prices are too expensive. I was very worried that the choice my Doctor and I chose would not work and I was upset.
We have a big shortage of doctors so I have no choice but to stick with the one I have or I would have to get my care from outpatient clinics. She frightens me though with her lack of record keeping, never knowing what medications I am on despite seeing her every few weeks. She prescribes a medication for awhile then for no reason decides to stop them cold turkey. She does not appear to even know the side effects.
I had to cut back my oxycodone 10 mg from 10 tablets per day to 6 per day and have been dealing with WD symptoms since last Thursday. I was very uncomfortable over the weekend, Yesterday was still kind of rough and then last night the shaking and anxiety stopped altogether until this morning. I had another 4 or 5 hours of shaking, then it stopped again . It stopped for 4 hours, started again for another 1 1/2 hours, and is now stopped. Am I starting to pull out of this?
So I am wondering if that site is going off real prices or general before-the-shortage prices, or just a general price from around the country. I may look into it. I have just usually found that these pharmacy treks can be exhausting and lead to nothing, because I can't call the pharmacies around here, they aren't allowed to tell you over the phone whether they have it or not.
Do to the shortage of oxycodone (Roxicodone) most tablets now also contain acetaminophen. Please be cautious with the amount of acetaminophen you are ingesting. It is highly recommended that you not exceed 4,000 mg of acetaminophen (tylenol) in a 24 hour period. Be sure that you are not adding additional acetaminophen in other medications that you may be taking. She is also correct to advise you to call your prescribing physician.
It is combined in many prescription products with other ingredients, usually opioids such as codeine (Tylenol with Codeine), oxycodone (Percocet), and hydrocodone (Vicodin). OTC acetaminophen products are not affected by today's action. “FDA is taking this action to make prescription combination pain medications containing acetaminophen safer for patients to use,” said Sandra Kweder, M.D., deputy director of the Office of New Drugs in FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
As I have mentioned to several Joe is off he oxycodone now and is working on tapering off the Duragesic. What killed me is, well I always add the pills left in the old bottle into the new one. Today I picked up my high BP meds....well instead of giving me Atenolol I ended up with 90 30 mg oxycodone (huh what?). They definitely zigged when they should have zagged. I called the pharmacy right away and told them about the mistake.
Ok here is the low down on the oxycodone shortage. I just got off the phone with two respected pharmacists I know personally. Ethex did indeed go out of business.I was told that the 5mg IR tablets as well as the 15mg tablets are no longer being made b/c Ethex was the only company making them. But.... their is a capsule form to these strengths that is available. Oxycontin is not affected by Ethex. Well, that is all I know, so I thought I would pass this on.
The test may help find what is going on. I do know there is another shortage of oxycodone 30mg going on again. I normally pay 90 cents a piece and this month they were 2.50 a piece! This due to the government's not wanting the companies to manufacture as much according to the owner of the pharmacy! It is just ridiculous! I am paying this much for meds that I can't keep down.
Tomorrow I would call your physician and request a prescription antiemetic. I wish you well. Please let us know what you discover. Another shortage of oxycodone is not good news!
There is a shortage of oxycodone ir here. It has been hard on alot of people.
These people are severely unknowledgeable) It was created during WWII, when morphine was in a great shortage, and it was the best way to alleviate severe battlefield wounds. its use for heroin addiction wasn't discovered until the late 60's during the extreme abuse of heroin, in america became a plaque on society! Most pain doc's prescribe it 2-3 times daily, based on the patients weight.
sounds like your just trying to get through the shortage. You could stop this miserable cycle now by kicking and cancelling your other prescription. It all depends on what your trying to do with this. If you really want to quit and are that afraid of doing it cold turkey go to detox they will prescibe you some nice meds to controll your blood preasure and anxiety and then realease you to start your new clean and sober life.
