Oxycodone itching

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone itching

oxycontin

my husband just had major back surgery, and the dr. prescribed oxycodone for the pain. he really needs it, but we are wondering how long he can take it before he becomes addicted. not that he wants to take it, he just can't stand the pain without it. his incision is 10 inches long, down the middle of his back. he is also itching a lot. could that be from the drug?
Is it possible to be allergic to oxycodone (percocet) If I am not allergic to Morphine or Vicoden?
I had TT on wednesday and just got home Friday evening) because of calcium and because my pulse was to low. I am itching like crazy !! Have any of you had this problem? The only new medication Loritab and Keeflex.
Therefore, 5 mg of oxycodone is about 16 mg of hydrocodone so oxycodone is about 3 times stronger than hydrocodone. However, geminigirl is right in that everyone is different. I have read that some say hydrocodone works better for their pain than percocet and viceversa. For me, percocet works a lot better for my pain. Hydrocodone does not come without acetaminophen...yet. There is a drug in development called, Zohydro that would be a long-acting form of hydrocodone without acetaminophen.
I was recently prescribed Oxycodone for pain due to a head injury/neck pain, and take a fairly small dose with Tylenol 3 (tylenol with codiene) and was wondering what the side effects should be and how long would I have to be taking it before coming addicted to it?

I believe that my fiance is addicted to Oxycodone 15mg which is has a prescription for. At the time of the prescription, he was working hard manual labor. He promised the doctor that because of his past, I would keep his pills and only give him the prescribed dose. Well, this became a problem because he would get angry with me and find the prescription every time I hid it. He was going through 120 pills in an 8 to 15 day period. A few months ago, he promised that he was done.
Having been on narcotics for the last several years, I have developed the side effect of severe itching after being on them for a while. This has happened with Demerol, Diluidid,Darvocet,Hydrocodone and Tramadol. I can take Tylenol #3 and morphine (post op in the hospital) with out any problems. Sometimes,if I take one of the itchy ones with Atarax and benadryl I'm ok for awhile, and then the itching will eventually get too bad and I will have to switch to something else.
The pain was overwhelming, I never noticed the itchiness until I was discharged and fully recovered from the pain, which took almost a month. The itching began to intensify and I knew this would be an issue due to its intensity. I usually get it when I am either in the sun, sneezing, excited, or just sitting down concentrating on something. It lasts for minutes and it randomly starts anywhere and spreads quickly throughout the body. There are no blemishes or any residual signs of a rash.
Be careful of all that Tylenol. They are taking Hydrocodone off the market all together and replacing it with a long acting med called ZoHydro. it is Vicodin without the tylenol 500 mg of tylenol is way way too much for your liver to handle. I am on Roxy's which is oxycodone 30 mg no aspirin they do fine and for the long acting i am using Morphine Sulphate.
Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew the differences between Oxycodone and Tylenol w/Codeine?? I know they both have acetomenophen. But, the Tylenol with Codeine has Codeine obviously. I was taking the one with 30mg. of codeine. Now I have Oxycodone 7.5-325. What is the opiad in this drug? Is it also codeine, or a different drug? I know my body's reaction to the T3, so I am a little nervous to try this new one....oxycodone. Is it stronger, not as strong, the same???
Hi, welcome to the forum, your history is suggestive of that you are having drug allergy to codeine. Some patients have reported to have itching (in more than 10%), rash and development of hives. The possibilities for allergy are due to presence of Phenanthrene in opioids. You can even develop hypersensitivity reactions to other phenanthrene derivative opioid agonists ( hydrocodone (hycodan 1mg), hydromorphone, levorphanol, oxycodone, oxymorphone).
Help, what doctor should I go to!! P.S. I have been taking the oxycodone since June and the itching is new in the last few days. I dont believe it is reaction to the med however I would like to get off of this med.
I have been noticing a lot of posts by people taking oxycodone that mentions a huge sweet tooth but I dont think I have seen any people whose DOC is hydrocodone mention this. Also someone mentioned in an old post about itching of the scalp being common with oxy. Reason I ask is that last time hubby went to doc he didnt put the charge for the pharmacy on our debit card but instead paid with cash.
Hi... I have been itching like crazy for about a week and a half, mostly on my legs and arms but now is spreading all over. Sometimes there are a little red bump here and there but not always. The only thing that I know that I am allergic to is codien and pencillen sorry spelling?? Well that I am not so sure of, I was very young and was given both at the same time, doctors did not know which caused it so my mom was advised for me to have neither.
derive from the same family of drugs. Hydrocodone is Hydrochloride/tylenol, aka Vicodin, where Oxycodone is oxycodone hydrochloride/tylenol aka Percocet...I think that is right, I know I will hear about it if not..and that's fine...Good luck, and I hope you get better soon. I have definitely heard of developing an allergy to anything at anytime in your life....How did you know you were allergic to Hydro? I mean what were your symptoms?
The nurse said the 12 hr es are oxycontin, but the bottle reads oxycodone 10 mg...Same thing??? Then the new meds read oxycodone 5mg. Is this just the same as the percocet just w/o the tylonel? And what about the hydroxyzine??? I just want to be educated about what exactly I'm taking.... Thanks in advance guys!
My goal was to see if I could manage on nothing or very little and it's very clear that my quality of life is nonexistent on such a low dose. I'm taking oxycodone 10 mg. every 4 hours. I essentially get about an hour to 1.5 hours of okay pain relief but then it's right back to being beyond awful. In the past I had used oxycontin, though I forget the dose. I used to take it twice a day with 15 mg oxycodone for BT pain. Then they tried the Fentanyl, which wasn't a good fit for my body.
Following this, I started to feel like I was getting bitten by bugs on my left arm (outside surface), feeling stinging sensations. I would then have intense itching. I can not see any bugs biting me. I scratch so much that I am damaging my skin. It started in a small area on my arm and now is spreading out a bit, although, still on my left arm. No one else in my home has been itching ( and I have a toddler who stays close to me).
I asked my doctor what I could take for this pain and he said pain meds were not safe for my liver. I am allergic to codeine, but he gave me 5 oxycodone anyway. I broke out in hives and couldn't stop itching. So he says to take Advil. ADVIL? That's like putting a band-aid on a broken leg! IS there anything I can take to stop this pain? I hurt so bad I can't sleep, and eating doesn't interest me in the least. I do eat small meals, but then I bloat and have stomach pain.
While in the hospital, they had me on a morphine pump for several days and then they put me on percocet. I have alot of allergies but I never had any problems with oxycodone. Shortly after I came home the itching started. I'm taking benedryl along with it but it doesn't seem like it's working. I don't know if I should just cope with the itching or call the doctor. This is just ridiculous! I'm running out of med's that I am capable of taking!
Some patients have reported to have itching (in more than 10%), rash and development of hives. You are having bronchospasm which is secondary to release of histamine in the body. The possibilities for allergy are due to presence of Phenanthrene in opioids. You can even develop hypersensitivity reactions to other phenanthrene derivative opioid agonists (codeine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, levorphanol, oxycodone, oxymorphone). From history it is difficult to point out offending drug.
I HAVE HAD BURNING, ITCHING OVER MOST OF MY BODY FOR 4 MONTHS WITHOUT A RASH. I AM ALLERGIC TO ANTIHISTAMINES, BACTRIM, OXYCODONE AND HYDROCODONE. I HAVE HAS NO RELIEF. PLEASE HELP ME!!
Methylprednisolone 4mg, Oxycodone/APAP 10mg/325mg Tablets, Promethazine12.5mg Tablets, and Amoxicilliin 500mg. I started itching really bad and called my doctor and was told that it was the Amoxicillin and to stop taking it. Well, its 7 am day three and I am still itching and have a dry mouth. I haven't taken the Amox for just a little over 24 hours and I had stopped taking the Promethazine as well.
If it was filled generic it would be listed as Oxycontin and below that it would say oxycodone ER or oxycodone SA. I am not really sure who is making the generic other than Malikroft at this point. Ethex was making it but is no longer allowed to. As I said Purdue sued the generic companies saying they broke patent laws and won. I will check tomorrow and see who is making the generic.
He went to the hospital and is ok- htank God. He was taking 10 mg oxycodone ER. Does that mean that he got 10 mg of oxycodone all at one time? Would that not be the same thing as taking two 5mg percs?
• The side effects of oxycodone include-shallow breathing, slow heartbeat; • seizure (convulsions); • cold, clammy skin; • confusion; • severe weakness or dizziness; or • feeling light-headed, fainting. Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as: • nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite; • dizziness, headache, tired feeling; • dry mouth; • sweating; or • itching.
it is oxycodone. The only difference is that with the Oxycontin, it is in a tablet that is designed for sustained release to prevent breakthrough pain, last up to 12 hours, and decrease the amount of pills to take. I understand your concerns about these meds., but not everyone who takes them is an addict, and they are necessary for some folks. My advice to you would be to get a second opinion to hear some other options and get another point of view on the matter.
