Oxycodone during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone during pregnancy

oxycontin

Avatar f tn Oxycodone is frequently prescribed for severe pain during pregnancy...although generally not during the first trimester. However, if you speak to your OB they can come up with a treatment plan for you. it is dangerous to quit narcotics cold turkey while pregnant, so most likely you will have to be tapered off of it or kept on it. I personally would NOT recommends witching to subotex unless your doctor chooses that for you...the reason being that, for example...
10913038 tn?1424227711 Has prescribed me a low dose of oxycododone, 5 mg to be exact. He says its safe to take during pregnancy and while Breastfeeding as long as its taken as needed and not regularly but im hesitant to put any narcotic in my body while pregnant. I'm sitting here in agony with a pill in my hand debating whether or not to take it. Has anyone else taken it during pregnancy and had any issues related to it?
Avatar f tn My baby doctor has been prescribing me Hydrocondone for pain during this pregnancy and I was just wondering if anyone else has been prescribed it and if their babies were okay?
Avatar f tn Acetaminophen-oxycodone has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Acetaminophen is routinely used for short-term pain relief and fever in all stages of pregnancy. Acetaminophen is believed to be safe in pregnancy when used intermittently for short durations. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Avatar f tn It says tramadol is category C though. If you don't know what that means just type in goggle pregnancy category C.
1778305 tn?1314483931 I have had to take it during pregnancy before and there have been no reports of birth defects linked to the usage of oxycodone or for that matter hydrocodone in pregnancy. The biggest risks are neonatal withdrawal and feeding or respiratory difficulties after birth but your doctor will know how to best minimize this risk.I don't have much time right now but I'll try to tell you more of my experiences later but wanted to reassure you.
Avatar n tn There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Oxycodone should only be given during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk Read more: http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/oxycodone.
Avatar n tn what would be safe to use in place of 30 mg oxycodone during 24 weeks of Pregnancy so as to not hurt my Twin babies or myself ?
Avatar f tn I take hydrocodone and oxycodone. I am not presrcibed them. I got addicted after my first pregnancy because I was so drepressed and that was the only thing that made me feel normal again. After that its all went downhill. I've never taken anything away from my daughter. She has always had everything shes needed, but I still feel very guilty. A week ago I had an ultrasound and they think they found something on the babies heart.

1144050 tn?1261292610 Ask your doctor for sure. I just did a search on it and turns out someone had a similar question on this site in 2007: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/Can-Oxycodone-be-taken-during-pregnancy/show/52784 and this was one of the responses: Actually, it's a category C, not B. It is unknown if it is safe or not.
Avatar f tn I understand your concern, I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and taking Xanax XR (I can't stop taking it because I have severe withdrawals from it that sends me into convulsions so my Doctors said it was better if I stayed on it and tried to taper down some.) So far my baby is healthy, the anatomy scan came back perfect, her heartbeat is always strong and she is very active.
Avatar n tn ve done- according to the FDAs advice and regulations on medication taken while pregnant oxycodone during Pregnancy is Category B (no evidence of risk in humans)
Avatar n tn (he was a month early) LISTEN To your OBGYN. I had 3 of em, count them 3 tell me that opiates are reasonably safe during pregnancy and that the risk isn't with birth defects but with sedation and possibly withdrawal... my mom had almost blown a gasket when she found out til I took her to my appoinment (2 different doctors) and had them tell her. my L5 is SEVERELY weakened due to scoliosis, arthritis and a fall down the stairs the day after bringing TJ home.
Avatar n tn I know that during pregnancy my back will be worse than it is now. I wanted to know what I should do. I have been on the medication for over three years and I am afraid of the withdrawal and also how to survive nine months without any relief. Before my pregnancy I could barely walk inj the morning without the relief from pain meds. Is it safe to take a low dose? What are the possible effects it will have on my baby?
Avatar n tn This forum is supportive and knowledgeable but when you are talking about these high doses of narcotics during pregnancy we are not qualified to provide with any thing but an educated guess or what we can research on the Internet. If you are a CF suffer than the physician that is prescribing these meds for you along with your OB should have a consultation and make this determination.
Avatar m tn It is prescribed, the doctor knows she is pregnant. Yes many other woman take oxys during pregnancy for pain and the baby is fine. It is prescribed for the cyst and infection pain? How long did they give it to her for?
Avatar f tn I was on pain meds during my entire pregnancy for back pain and at the end of my pregnancy was on one called oxycodone. (very strong). I tapered my dose and when my son was born had been on a lowered dose for a few days and then nothing for almost 36hrs. He didn't suffer withdrawals or anything because I did things right. (and got lucky) I've heard that zoloft is alright during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I am 8 weeks prego and I can't get into see my doctor for 2 more weeks. I am on oxycodone 10-325 four times a day. My pain management doctor said try and ween myself off slowly by decreasing the amount a little bit every couple of weeks( having a hard time during the night) leg cramps and restlessness. I am petrified that I am causing harm or birth defects to my baby?? I haven't been able to speak to anyone except for my pain management doctor.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
1361767 tn?1277665466 Hey~ When were the kidney stones? Who gave you the oxycodone? How much do you take? You need to get with your OB/GYN on this. Tell the truth and ask how you can taper off. Don't stop cold turkey!!!
