10178628 tn?1408331209 Can I be blunt? Do you really think your doc does not believe in tolerance? EVERYBODY knows tolerance exists. He just doesn't want to UP your dose. And waving literature in his fact is gonna **** him off. "Well, doctor, this internet forum I posted to says tolerance really exists, and you're wrong...." LOL Tolerance is so real that there are SEVERAL posts on this forum, as well as others, about how people take their opiate pills *exactly* as prescribed (e.g.
Avatar m tn s as high as he can go with my dosage. Is it normal that my tolerance is gone this fast and my relief is minimal at best for maybe a half an hour to an hour after I take my 30 mg pill? My condition is severe kyphosis and scholiosis which had led to EVERY disk in my back either bulging, partially degenerated or totally degenerated. My life now consists of almost totally being bed ridden. Oh and btw I also get 2 10 mg hydrocodone for breakthrough pain which to me almost seems like a joke.
1686743 tn?1306005451 There actually is no recommended dosage of opiate drugs. There are parameters, meaning beginning or minimum dose and maximum dose. Yes those parameters have something to do with age and body mass but they truly are up to your prescribing physician and to a lesser degree you. If your pain is not controlled with your current medications please speak to your physician. You are on a moderate dosage. One might consider a change in the opiates rather then a increase.
725248 tn?1316162245 Oxycontin is a wonderful long term drug but the most important thing is to get the dosage correct. We build up a tolerance to the meds and the doctors must allow for that.Norco has absolutely no affect on my pain level. If I am going to go through the aggravation of jumping through all the DEAs hoops to try and maintain some quality of life, darn if I'm going to still suffer.I wish you luck and in my opinion, your dosage just needs adjusted.
Avatar f tn your pain receptors and to see if you can get along with a different/smaller dosage. Tolerance is an issue but many doctors will rotate meds usually once a year to help battle the tolerance issue. What are your conditions and what are your pain meds, it will help us give you more specific advice. Have you talked to your doctor about why he is tapering you off, what did he say? Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn Hi there everyone. I'm new here and have a question that I hope someone here can help me with. I'm a 32 year old female with chronic pain. I have cervical dystonia in my neck, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, and hidertitis supperteva (sp?). I had been taking 20 mg opana 2x day along with 30 mg Oxycodone 4x day. My pain management doctor changed my dosage this last month to 40 mg opana 2x day and 30 mg Oxycodone 3x day.
4628837 tn?1364557915 But always go back on due to severe henriated disk pain and mouth pain. Ive been back on oxycodone now for a year after five months clean and am taking 3 tens a day, but the last three days, I feel withdrawals in between dosages. Its killing me. Why is this happeneing???
612876 tn?1355514495 I take liquid oxycodone through my feeding tube for pain management of neuropathic and GI pain. I also have rescue meds for migraines but I've gone off my preventative meds, Topamax and Gabapentin, as my husband and I were trying to conceive. I really would like to stay off the neuroleptics for a bit longer, but I'm concerned that I'm becoming overly tolerant of the oxycodone.
17277382 tn?1455209810 Hi Everyone. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia, Arthritic TMJ, and have had my entire left jaw replaced, which left painful damage behind. There is nothing else they can do for me, so there is no "cure." I am left with severe chronic pain that will always be there. I will always be in pain management to control the pain and provide a normal quality of life, or as close as possible. I have been taking oxycodone 10 mg for more than a year.
Avatar m tn m not sure why you request that everyone put what and how much they are taking as it has no bearing on anything. No one should be prescribed something based on what anyone else takes. Even if two people have the same "injury" like say a herniated disc...One person may have little to no pain while the other has terrible pain so they would not be treated the same medically.
Avatar f tn Yes there are drugs stronger than oxycodone. He has most likely built up a tolerance to his medication. The dosage can be changed, a different medication altogether can be used, or a combination of medications can be tried. I have been on narcotic therapy for over 15 years and have been on almost every opiate available in this country. I have a great pain specialist that "rotates" my opiates as needed.
Avatar n tn The Collaborative Perinatal Project monitored 50,282 mother-child pairs, 8 of which had 1st-trimester exposure to oxycodone (2). No evidence was found to suggest a relationship to large categories of major or minor malformations or to individual defects. -------------------------------------- I really hope this helps.
356518 tn?1322263642 this is unusual because this situation has been brewing for quite awile. there are many companies around the world who make short acting oxycodone preparations. no shortage here (oz). don't know why other sources haven't been fully utilised. not good for ppl who really rely on it.
Avatar m tn For most people, as long as you are consistently putting a narcotic into your body, you will grow a tolerance. But I know someone who has taken percocet for over 20 years and has been at the same dosage basically the whole time. Everyone is different. Have you tried medications other than narcotics?
Avatar m tn I'm having problems with the new oxy formulation [ op]. I've taken opiate pain management from a doctor [s] for years. Recently I've determined I'm allergic to the op's and won't take them anymore, but luckily for me I've accumulate quite a few breakthru meds which are oxycodone. I was told it's the same opiate ingredient. I think it's called Hydrochloride something or other?
Avatar f tn Ive been on pain meds for 5 or so years, and am curious if anyone else who has taken them for that long, has experienced them 'not working' anymore? we build our tolerance, and eventually its not the same. does that mean its time to stop taking them b/c they arent working like they used to? or wein down to get tolerance lower? does this get to a point where regardless of how hight the dosage, there comes a point where they stop working all together?
Avatar m tn ofoxycodone 4x daily to only 15mg. 3x daily of Mscontin, and 5 mg. of oxycodone 3x daily. I have the same exact of pain releif atthe lower dosages! I have been on high doses of every narcotic imaginable for many years. I have a veryhigh tolerance. I just wanted everyone to know that the best dose of your pain medication is most likely THE LOWEST ONE THAT WORKS! I recently had an accident and am thankful that I am on lower dosages now.
Avatar f tn Its about what i use to do along with hydro. Your body builds a tolerance to it and you have to keep upping the dosage for it to work. Also I dont think the GP told her to take the whole perscription in 10 days, probably a monthly amount. Sounds like she may have been chewing them which at that hi amount is deadly. Very sorry about the situation.
Avatar f tn Typically , they convert your current dosage in total daily milligrams to an equivalent amount in the new opiate. They may reduce the dosage slightly for cross tolerance. All this means is that most people will require a smaller dose of the new opiate, and to minimize any side effects. Most never notice the slight reduction. I’ve switched from one opiate to another many times and never had any issues or withdrawal.
Avatar m tn Also are you taking the oxycodone when required or regularly? 60mg of oxycodone a day 9wks after surgery seems a high dose to be needed at this stage. But if you already have a tolerance to these pain meds then this might explain the high dose or you have other pain. Please keep in touch and a big congratulations for going through with a total knee replacement. One of the most painful surgerys' to endure.
Avatar f tn The 10 mg dose is equivalent to about 20 mg of oxycodone. It is a step down but you could combine a 5 mg and a 10 mg tablet to equal 30 mg of oxycodone. Because of incomplete cross tolerance due to Opana IR (oxymorphone) being a totally different opioid, you could have great success with it as a breakthrough pain med. Dilaudid and Opana IR are the only IR pills stronger than oxycodone on the market. The next tier up would be the fentanyl lollipops or buccal tablets. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I can tell you from research and experience that Methadone is sometimes prescribed along with moderate dosages of Oxycodone as an alternative to increasing the dosage of Oxycodone. Methadone acts as a potentiator, increasing the efficacy of the Oxycodone due to increased tolerance. I have been on the on all three medications with no issue for some time now.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed oxycodone 5mg or tabs 2 at a time for back pain and cyclobenzaprine 10mg i was having severe pain so i took 2 oxycodone and 2 of the cyclobenzaprines and also 2 hydrocodone 5/500's i have a high tolerance for pain killers but i want to know if i am in any danger?
Avatar f tn I recently had surgery and was taking 5/325mg oxycodones for about two weeks. I was only prescribed 30 pills and was still in a lot of pain at my follow up appointment so the surgeon authorized me to have a refill. I suffered from some complications while my incision was healing and at my 6 week appointment asked what I could take for pain because OTC meds just don't do anything for me.
Avatar f tn I'm not a doctor, so keep that in mind. Mg for mg, hydromorphone is definitely stronger than oxycodone. It is hard to figure out exactly because you really need to add in a cross-tolerance when comparing the two and that varies person to person. If you use the lowest "medically acceptable" cross tolerance, 10mg of oxycodone (not long acting) is equal to about 3mg of hydromorphone (again, not the long acting type).
