I have to take 2 of them at a time to get the same pain relief. I still have pain around 6/7. About 4 days ago a friend of mine told me she became dependent on opiates after her surgery and i should be very careful. She had to go to detox. I decided I should not take them any longer and stopped. I had been taking approximately 2-3 a day. That night I had terrible leg cramps, sleeplessness, and diarrhea the next day.

I take Morphine 60mg ER three times a day and Oxycodone 15 mg IR every 6 hours for breakthrough pain. In the past, I have taken Dilaudid and wondered if Opana was similar to that in formulation? Also, it seems as though my meds are not as effective at controlling my pain as they were when I started taking them a year ago. Is it possible that I may already need a higher dosage?

I have a question about other pain meds. My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there???

What was the dosage you took to deal with the nerve pain and how long did you take it before the nerve pain stopped? I'm not concerned about the safety of the Neurontin at the low dosage I'm taking. I'm actually more concerned about the effectiveness.

I am about 4 weeks pregnant. I am on 240 mgs of oxycodone per day. I take 2 , 30 mg pills 4 times a day. I have weaned down a bit since last week. I am always in pain. I have ruptured discs and bone degenerative disease and arthritis. I am 33 yrs old and other wise healthy. I have had 2 births never had any problems. I had been up to 4 Vicodin a day because of the pain,and with the lyrica as a side RX my pain med dosage went down. My pain decreased. I was taking 50mg, I was feeling so good I stopped taking the Lyrica, but my pain was too much, had to go back on it. The side effects I have were sleepiness and weight gain. So I take it before bedtime, and I work out as much as possible, this also helps with depression I might get due to having a chronic pain disease.

I have taken OxyCodone (Percocet) for the last few years due to pain from breast cancer surgeries. I take 2 oxycodone in the a.m usually 7am 5/325. Then 2 again in the evening prior to bed. I am currently Methadone 2.5mg q12h & Oxycodone 15mg tid prn for pain management and Klonopin 2mg qd for Anxiety, along with two other non narcotic pain relievers (SSRIs & SSRNIs). I can tell you from research and experience that Methadone is sometimes prescribed along with moderate dosages of Oxycodone as an alternative to increasing the dosage of Oxycodone. Methadone acts as a potentiator, increasing the efficacy of the Oxycodone due to increased tolerance.

I had been taking 20 mg opana 2x day along with 30 mg Oxycodone 4x day. My pain management doctor changed my dosage this last month to 40 mg opana 2x day and 30 mg Oxycodone 3x day. I have been on opiate pain medication for about 6 years, pretty much continuously. My problem is that since the dosage change, it seems like the medication is not lasting long enough. I start getting withdrawal symptoms within 4-6 hours of taking an opana and an Oxycodone.

Yes there are drugs stronger than oxycodone. He has most likely built up a tolerance to his medication. The dosage can be changed, a different medication altogether can be used, or a combination of medications can be tried. I have been on narcotic therapy for over 15 years and have been on almost every opiate available in this country. I have a great pain specialist that "rotates" my opiates as needed.

P.S.---- Try not to worry about which medication is stronger than the other. Concentrate on how well the medicine is working for you, the side effects, etc. You will be a much happier, and hopefully more pain free patient. Is the back pain from the pregnancy? Because it is such a small dosage it probably wont hurt your baby or help ur back pain.

I think your post was moved to the pain forum because of the information. In regards to the Oxycodone, yes there was a shortage but the manufacture is catching up. I had no problem last month. The Doc did switch me to the Morphine because of the fact that it may become sparse again and it is just a hair stronger. I've been in pain Managment for 4yrs due to stroke in 2011, I've been in oxycodone 10mg 4 a day and OxyContin 20mg 2 a day and due to other issues my pain Doc prescribed me the Fentanyl psych 25mg or mcg and took out OxyContin. Now two things.....

The potent ingredient in any opiate compound is the opiate. 5mg of Oxycodone is exactly that - 5 mg. Her doctor was trying to lower her dosage, which may or may not be effective...pure Oxycodone (AKA Roxycodone) is "rapid delivery," and is released into one's bloodstream within minutes, unlike Percocet, the delivery of which takes approximately 30 minutes. It COULD work as well for her - (faster!!) but...well, every body is different.
