I take Hydrcodone 5/500 APAP. Is Oxycodone a good alternative to Hydrocodone? What are your experiences?
I was first prescribed Oxycodone APAP 5/325 aprroximately a year and a half ago by a doctor due to my sever knee pain. Approximately three months ago, I started seeing a new doctor, and he took me off the Percocet that has Tylenol in it, and placed me on Oxycodone HCL 5mg; Which is Percocet without the Tylenol, basically. So here's my question to you, and please help me with this... I've been taking 8-10 of these pills a day, as directed by my doctor.
Different manufacturers might use different inert ingredients in their pills, so while the active ingredient might be the same (oxycodone), the binders might be different and it's possible that you might feel differently when taking one as opposed to another. In the generic oxycodone you're taking, is it pure oxycodone? Or is there APAP in it (tylenol)?
Tylenol 3 is better for wisdom tooth removal, small surgeries or injuries, smaller issues,Hydrocodone is for most surgeries(they gave me Norco 5/325 for when I had my appendix removed),Oxycodone is usually for major surgeries and major pain or accidents.
Oxycontin is the extended release version of oxycodone which is immediate acting. Ideally you take the oxycontin on a scheduled basis for chronic pain so it is in your system continuously and then use the oxycodone for breakthrough pain which means when you need it. Neither has Tylenol in it but some pills such as Percocet or Roxicet are oxycodone mixed with Tylenol (also referred to as APAP.) Percodan is oxycodone with aspirin in it.
It is VERY HARD to even go to the bathroom. I was on OXYCODONE W/APAP 5/325 tablets. Id take 2 of them but they didnt do anything. The news ones I have which is causing this are the only ones that work with my pain. Let me tell you it is PAIN at its WORST. What should I do?

This is my 8th shoulder surgery,so I'm not new to this, but some of these meds are new to me. The first day and night post-op were horrible and even with 10 mg oxycodone 12 hr ES plus 5/325 percs the pain was not at all managed. I spoke to the Nurse the next day and she looked in my chart and made a huge connection! The epilepsy meds I am on act to diminish the effects and duration of pain meds. This was HUGE for me!
In 2007 I sustained torn ligaments in my right ankle when a chair I was sitting on fell apart A year later I sustained a lower back herniation from a car accident. I was given Oxycodone (that's Percoset-right?) for the pain for both injuries (actually, I was still on the med when the second injury happened), to be taken one every 4 hours. I don't know the milligrams, but the bottle says "Oxycodone-APAP, 5-325 MG TAB. It is now 2010.
I am currently taking Oxycodone-Apap 5-325 MG TabMck, Medrol dose pack, and now Hydromorphone 2mg (Dilaudid) because the Percocet * (Oxycodone) does not work well by itself. I have no insurance so I will be paying for a Doc Apt this week. I was wondering is anyone else can give me advise on the following. Mornings are hell for me i cant get out of bed till the pain meds kick in which limits my day from the start.
They have me taking 125MG of Prednisone, 40MG of Protonix, Guaifen/P-Ephed Caplet, 1000MG of Biaxin, and Oxycodone w/apap 5/325 tabs, a Day. My vision is right eye is improving but is not a 100% yet. Does anyone have any suggestions about the Nuclear Plasti? And Could My Back problem have anything to do with optic neuritis??? Thanks for any help!!
So I was in such pain my husband got the pain doc and they put me on Hydroco/APAP 5-325 plus I'm taking 4 ibuprofen every 6 hours. I am in so much pain I can't handle it. I don't know what to do.. Any ideas ? I was ready to take the whole bottle of oxy I had left, but my husband flushed it down the toilet. I don't know what clued him in.
Oxycodone doesn't have APAP either... Percocet can have APAP though-(Oxycodone with APAP) Oxycodone is oxycodone...with only a pill binder.
The prescription is for Oxycodone HCL. I asked my doctor what the difference between this and regular Oxycodone 5/325 APAP was, and he stated that the one I'm on doesn't have Tylenol in it. He said that the APAP stood for Tylenol, not the CET; Because I asked about that, too. Weird, huh?
How much oxycodone is in each pill? Usually it will say 5/325, 7.5/325, or 10/325. Also, how many are you taking every day right now? It will help someone give you a tapering plan if they know just how much you're taking of what strength each day.
I deal with the pain in the day time with tylenol but my promary care physician gave me oxycodone/apap 5/325 to take at night as needed when I cant sleep. It works great for the pain, however sometimes when I take it I notice a weird effect. I get a feeling like my hearing will "shift" if you will in one ear. It sounds like everything is being heard through a cone and very quiet but it never lasts for more than one second max.

10/750 - Maxidone 5/325 - Norco 5/325 7.5/325 - Norco 7.5/325 10/325 - Norco There's also that comoplete range above in generic form - and there's also liquid forms, etc... - so, the only difference is whom makes it - as they both have different percentages of hydro/apap (and occassionally asprin).
Hydrocodone (Vicodin) does come in a 5/325 dose. You may want to request a lower dose of acetaminophen. On January 13th of this year the FDA "is asking" that all medications containing acetaminophen (apap) reduce the amount of that drug to 325mg per table...over the next three years. The recommendation is still not to exceed 4,000mg in a 24 hour period. The real problem comes from ppl who take other medications that contain apap dosage.
Or that oxocodone and the oxocodone in a Perc 5 mg Vs a oxocodone in a 5 mg just plain pill are different other than one has apap and the other doesnt? TO make it a little more simple , is a 7.5 es Vicodan more powefull than a 5 / 325 perc? Arent all codones in the same family and just an opiate or? I read your posts all the time and you are obviously well researched and expericend .
After 3 days of pain I went back to doc's office. He switched me to Oxycodone-Acetaminophen 5-325 which is a little stronger than the hydrocodon. He also took me off of the flexiril. It works GREAT. After I take the Oxy I can feel the pain melt away in about 25min after I take it. I am having surgery tomarrow. Disc replacement. Both of them. Both my parents have had this done with great success.
I was prescribed Percocet and I received the generic brand Oxycodone W/APAP 5/325 Two weeks later i had a kidney stone and was prescribed Percocet again. This time the generic name was Endocet 7.5/500 Why was it Oxycodone one time and Endocet the next time.
Holy **** dude i would worry less about wd's and more about your dying livr...if your percs are 5/325 your ingesting over 6000mg. of tylenol everyday! FDA recommends no more than 4000...and thats about to go down...i take 120mg. of oxy IR 2 or three times a day and the wd's aren't fun but they're way more manageable than methadone wd's...just take immodium and robitussin and dont sit around alot cause depression will kick your ***..
PLEASE help! I am taking 2 Tramodol, 1 soma, and 2 Oxycodone/APAP 10/325 every 4 hours. Even this does not take the pain away but takes the edge off some so that I can stand it.We tried another pain regimine with time released Oxycontin and they were a joke. I am really frustrated that I have so much pain when I went into this thinking once surgery was over, I would be pain-free after approx. 25 years.
I was prescribed Hydrocodone/APAP (10/500) in December 2011. Never took more than the prescribed amount (3x Daily). I am now in day 5 since I quit cold turkey. The first 2 days were rotten. My whole body felt achy. Mostly in my lower back. I couldn't fall asleep. I finally fell asleep on the evening of day 2 and slept a good solid 9 hours. (Something I haven't done in quite a while.) When I woke up on day 3 I felt as if I had energy to burn.
study, search and read about the oxycodone that you are addicted too. understand how your enemy works. then set up a battle plan. best to tapper off like you discovered, but if you could get a few days off, maybe three to handle the worse part of it which is the first 2-3 days.
