Oxycodone and acetaminophen

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone and acetaminophen

oxycontin

1064524 tn?1257199755 It is my understanding that you cannot get either hydrocodone or oxycodone without the acetaminophen. Oxycodone is no longer manufactured without the apap at least it is still unavailable in my state. Hydrocodone is simply not made without the apap. Otis brought up a several good point that I neglected to mention. Primarily all pain medications have side effects, some worse than others. Often how your system reacts is based on ones individual make up. My pain med contains acetaminophen.
Avatar n tn Is Oxycodone without Acetaminophen stronger than just Oxycodone Hydrochloride? My mother has been on Percocet for years, and for some reason her doctor has now switched her to just Oxycodone. She seems to think that 5mg of her new perscription is stronger than 10 of her old one(Oxy and acetaminophen...perc)! Is this true?
4730743 tn?1358469813 2 months, and he currently has me on Verapamil ER 180 MG X1 daily, Nortriptyline 10 MG X1 @ bedtime, also Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325 4X a day for break thru pain, as well as Oxycontin 10 mg ER 2X a day. I have taken all of these meds for the last month, with little sucess of relief. Unfort. I have had to take both of my pain medications everyday the last month. My question is about tolerance.
Avatar f tn I live in WA state and have been prescribed Oxycodone by my Dr twice. Each time I went to get the prescriptions filled I was told that they were out of it and it was on back order due to some problem with the manufacturer. I went to 3 different pharmacies and got the same story. Is there something I should know here? Also both prescriptions were subsituted with Hydrocodone which contain acetaminophen. Due to my condition I am not supposed to take anything containing acetaminophen.
Avatar m tn Ok, just got back from PM and he perscribed me Oxycodone HCL 15MG and wants me to try those and see him in 2 weeks. I will let you all know how they work and thanks again everyone.
Avatar f tn Percocet is Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. Percocet is a brand name and there is no liquid Percocet. There is a liquid version of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen called Roxicet, however. It's not necessarily measured in mg's though. It's measured in ml's in which 5ml contaings 5mg of Oxycodone and 325mg of Acetaminophen. Now that I've written all of that...I have to ask..why do you ask?
Avatar f tn Acetaminophen-oxycodone has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Acetaminophen is routinely used for short-term pain relief and fever in all stages of pregnancy. Acetaminophen is believed to be safe in pregnancy when used intermittently for short durations. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Avatar m tn m really surprised you can still get the 500mg tablets as the FDA ruled on the Acetaminophen in pain meds two years ago now...Thankfully none of the Oxycodone pills come with that high of a dosage of it.. Oxycodone is "technically" stronger than Hydrocodone but it all depends on the person...Some people swear they are helped more by the Hydro... For me...I use the OxyIR 5mg pills that don't have any Acetaminophen...
Avatar f tn Percocet is the brand name of the generic drug oxycodone and acetaminophen and Vicodin is a brand name of the generic drug Hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Both oxycodone and Hydrocodone is a narcotic drug and are often used in combination with acetaminophen or APAP, a no steroidal anti inflammatory drug which helps in increasing their potency.
Avatar f tn I have been taking percocet (oxycodone acetaminophen) 5/325 1 pill 3 times a day. That was a great system that worked for me. Recently I was prescribed oxycodone minus the acetaminophen. I understand the risks of liver damage. However, I have had NO relief since I began this new drug. I'm confused because it is the same drug minus the Tylenol. Anyone else experiencing this? Would taking a higher dose of the oxycodone (not Percocet which is oxy with acetaminophen) help me better?
Avatar m tn The perscription will say on it how much tylenol it contains or if it contains aspirin (which I doubt pre-surgical). Next to the oxycodone it will say, apap ###. That is the amount of acetaminophen (tylenol) in it. So as an example it may read, oxycodone 7.5mg/apap 500mg. Physicians don't always tell you the amount of acetaminophen that the particular narcotic contain. The reason again for that is it is written on the script. I hope that helps answer your question.
Avatar f tn Technically, I suppose you could, but really why would you? Better to wait the requisite time before regular dosing. Also, just an FYI, Oxycodone and any narcotics really aren't very good for chronic headaches as they tend to cause worse rebound headaches. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn I just got home after having my broken knee cap put back together (knee surgery with screws and wire). I am on the couch with a lot of pain and at least for the next few days I am taking 5mg of Oxycodone, every 3-4 hours, depending on pain levels. I am really struggling to get my blood sugar levels even close to normal. For what it's worth, I am on an insulin pump and have great control (I avg. 5.8 A1C's).
1394601 tn?1328032308 You should not need oxycodone for the side affects of rebif. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen alone should quell any of the possibilities. Maybe you can split it somehow? If you injected at night after dinner take the ibuprof or tylenol and then keep your regularly scheduled day routine for pain? Just a thought. That's what I do. That way, if I do experience affects I can sleep through them. Being 7 months in your likely well adjusted by now.
Avatar f tn t know what opiate you are taking but such meds at that contain hydrocodone and acetaminophen like Vicodin, Lortab and Percocet can come with as little as 325 mg per tablet of the acetaminophen. I had hoped for years that they would remove this from hydrocodone as they have from oxycodone but all I've seen is the decreased amounts of it. If possible request that your acetaminophen dose be lowered, it doesn't have to lower the opiate ingredient.
Avatar m tn Roxicodone does not contain acetaminophen, it's the same thing as oxycodone and is about 90% opiate and very addictive. It would be less invasive to the liver as opposed to Lortab, Vicodin or Percocet which do have acetaminophen, Ibuprofen or something along those lines.
Avatar n tn Are these meds taken all at the same time? It would depend a lot on that... It looks like you went through someone's medicine cabinet and wrote everything down!
1264863 tn?1391118193 t worry about it. Just continue tapering down and you will be taking less and less acetaminophen. If you absorb liquid better than solids switching to a liquid might actually end up being a spike in your dose and that will cause you to go in the wrong direction if you are serious about tapering off of your meds. If you do have a problem absorbing solids you may only be taking in half the amount of percocet or say 4 pills a day even though you are taking 8.
433485 tn?1321813390 Hi Sue what is Oxycodone? Do you get it from the doctors? I too have chronic gastritis and it is agony on flare ups. I take Pantoprazole,Gaviscon and I can take Sucralfate. They don,t do much though. Its really awful isn,t it I hope you find relief for your pain too.
Avatar f tn Like the other posters said, Oxycodone does not have acetaminophen in it and Percocet does, which can be harder on your liver. It sounds like your Dr is willing to work with you on these changes. Maybe try what the other posters said and cut your pills in half to see how you do on them. You might do just fine or you may need an increase but really think about doubling it right away.
Avatar m tn percocet (oxycodone) is immediate release with acetaminophen. oxycontin is just the oxycodone without acetaminophen that has a time release coating on it to make it last longer. both are highly addictive.
Avatar f tn I went through 48 weeks of treatmnt, my doctor prescrbed morphine and oxycodone, these were the least harmful, I also have cirhosis.
