Oxycodone and acetaminophen

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone and acetaminophen

oxycontin

When my physician increased the amount I could take in a 24 hour period without decreasing the acetaminophen my pharmacist called my physician immediately and requested the acetaminophen dose be reduced and the hydrocodone be increased. Mine were only Hydro 5/500 apap at the time and the pharmacist had the physician change it to Hydro10/325 apap. Again I am blessed that not only do I have a great physician, I also have an astute pharmacist.
The maximum single dose of tylenol that can be taken safely is 1,000 mg. The oxycodone-acetaminophen that you are taking contains in each pill 5 mg of oxycodone and 325 mg of acetaminophen (aka tylenol). Make sure that you tally up the acetaminophen in each pill you take over the day and make sure that you don't exceed 1,000 mg in a single dose and 2,600 mg per day.
I live in WA state and have been prescribed Oxycodone by my Dr twice. Each time I went to get the prescriptions filled I was told that they were out of it and it was on back order due to some problem with the manufacturer. I went to 3 different pharmacies and got the same story. Is there something I should know here? Also both prescriptions were subsituted with Hydrocodone which contain acetaminophen. Due to my condition I am not supposed to take anything containing acetaminophen.
Is Oxycodone without Acetaminophen stronger than just Oxycodone Hydrochloride? My mother has been on Percocet for years, and for some reason her doctor has now switched her to just Oxycodone. She seems to think that 5mg of her new perscription is stronger than 10 of her old one(Oxy and acetaminophen...perc)! Is this true?
Hydrocodone/acetaminophen is available in the 5mg, 7.5mg and 10mg strenghts with 325mg of acetaminophen. I'm not aware of any that has 350mg of acetaminophen. If you're still concerned about the tylenol in the pill, I would definitely ask your doctor again about switching you to the same strength of hydrocodone with less acetaminophen (tylenol) in it.
Liver damage comes from the acetaminophen in thins such as Vicodin and Percocet. The 15mg immediate release Oxy doesn't have the acetaminophen in it, so your liver should be ok. That doesn't mean you shouldn't stop abusing the oxy though. Most of the WD symptoms occur within 3-7 days. If you can get through day 3 OK, you can make it 3 years. Make yourself do it.
Hi Sue what is Oxycodone? Do you get it from the doctors? I too have chronic gastritis and it is agony on flare ups. I take Pantoprazole,Gaviscon and I can take Sucralfate. They don,t do much though. Its really awful isn,t it I hope you find relief for your pain too.
the 40mg OxyContin, the presciption is ready for pick-up every month at the pharmacy and I could easily have a weak moment and go and fill the scipt. I'm aware that seeking medical care is best, but given the circumstances (my career for example) I'd like to avoid this at all costs. Does anyone have any experience with oxycodone for approximately the same amount of time I've been taking it? I'm curious to know how long I can expect withdrawl symptoms.
Percocet also contains acetaminophen, however, you can get oxycodone alone wthout the acetaminophen in it. Oxycodone can also be obtained in a long-acting formula called Oxycontin. Since everyone is different and their pain is also different, it's impossible for anyone to say whether one is better than the other. I'd suggest talking with your doctor about pain control if you require it and let him/her suggest/prescribe what he/she thinks is most appropriate for you. Best of luck!
Next to the oxycodone it will say, apap ###. That is the amount of acetaminophen (tylenol) in it. So as an example it may read, oxycodone 7.5mg/apap 500mg. Physicians don't always tell you the amount of acetaminophen that the particular narcotic contain. The reason again for that is it is written on the script. I hope that helps answer your question. Good luck with your surgery. I hope you heal quickly and have a non-eventful recovery. Please let us know how you are doing.
The drugs most affected by this action are opioid pain relievers that are combined with acetaminophen like codeine (Tylenol #3), hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab) and oxycodone (Percocet). “FDA is taking this action to make prescription combination pain medications containing acetaminophen safer for patients to use,” said Sandra Kweder, M.D., deputy director of the Office of New Drugs in FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
I have two tears, one in the shoulder and one in the hip socket, and oxycodone 5mg won't do a thing for it. I'm glad to hear it helps your migraines but keep in mind it's only masking the pain. If you search in this migraine forum you'll find some comments I made that should help you narrow down which components of the weather are more responsible for your migraines. If you need help searching for it let me know.
I continued to call in for refills as if I were taking the medication as prescribed and received the aforementioned prescriptions. As of today, I still have 60 oxycodone, and 70 of the hydrocodon. The hydrocodon make me much more nauseous than the oxycodone and make me loopy. I have to take 2 of them at a time to get the same pain relief. I still have pain around 6/7. About 4 days ago a friend of mine told me she became dependent on opiates after her surgery and i should be very careful.
The Doc gave me Percocet and Endocet, both are Oxycodone with aspirin or acetaminophen. It works great for my lower back pain so I can sleep but in the morning I am kneeling in front of the toilet wishing I would die from heaving and making my back worse. Is there some other pain killer that won't upset my stomach to the point of barfing every morning? At this point I won't take the meds but I lay in bed wishing I could sleep and knowing I will hate myself in the morning if I take a pill.
Hey all, I've been addicted to oxycodone since age 14. I'm age 27 now and ready to put this behind me. I've lost everything because of it. I've lost my family, friends, multiple good jobs, lost my good credit, and it all of a sudden dawned on me that I'm an addict and its the source of my problems. I'm gonna call a methadone/sub clinic Monday. I do have chronic pain, I was shot with a 12 gauge shotgun in july 2011 and it really messed me up. Do you think a Dr.
ACTIC (FENTAYL LOLLIPOPS) AND THEN SWITCHED TO THE FENTAYL PATCHES, I SWITHCED DOCTORS AND WAS TAKEN OFF FENTAYL THEN LOST MY INSURANCE AND PUT ON METHADONE AND OXYCODONE, I AGAIN SWITCHED DOCTORS AND CURRENTLY ON OXYCADONE 30MG 8 A DAY AS WELL AS XANAX WHICH I AM BEING TAPPERED OFF OF NOW, THEN MY OB WANTS TO TAPPER THE OXYCODONE I DON'T WANT TO HURT MY BABY IN NO WAY BUT AT THE SAME TIME I'M WONDERING WHAT KIND OF SEVERE PAIN I WILL BE IN WHEN I AM OFF OF THE PAIN MEDS, BUT I DON'T WANT MY B
I just got home after having my broken knee cap put back together (knee surgery with screws and wire). I am on the couch with a lot of pain and at least for the next few days I am taking 5mg of Oxycodone, every 3-4 hours, depending on pain levels. I am really struggling to get my blood sugar levels even close to normal. For what it's worth, I am on an insulin pump and have great control (I avg. 5.8 A1C's).
It is combined in many prescription products with other ingredients, usually opioids such as codeine (Tylenol with Codeine), oxycodone (Percocet), and hydrocodone (Vicodin). OTC acetaminophen products are not affected by today's action. “FDA is taking this action to make prescription combination pain medications containing acetaminophen safer for patients to use,” said Sandra Kweder, M.D., deputy director of the Office of New Drugs in FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
30s are blue, 20s are greyish, 15s are green, 10s are pink, and 5s are white. These are oxycodone without any acetaminophen making them easy to snort or even smoke. l speak from experience that's why l know... l too am an addict. Started by a doctor prescribing them and my body grew dependent on them and now l get my pills anywhere l can. l want to stop more than anything but the physical withdrawl is unbearable. one must wean themselves off because cold turkey can kill you.
I am curious of the long term affect of taking the drug Oxycodone- ADA_ 5-325 MG TABMCK.
I'm really surprised you can still get the 500mg tablets as the FDA ruled on the Acetaminophen in pain meds two years ago now...Thankfully none of the Oxycodone pills come with that high of a dosage of it.. Oxycodone is "technically" stronger than Hydrocodone but it all depends on the person...Some people swear they are helped more by the Hydro... For me...I use the OxyIR 5mg pills that don't have any Acetaminophen...
Oxycodone and Pregnancy In animal studies on pregnancy and oxycodone, the medication did not seem to increase the risk of birth defects or other problems. Limited human studies have also shown that oxycodone does not appear to cause birth defects. However, as a narcotic, oxycodone can cause withdrawal symptoms in the infant after delivery. If you are taking this medication and pregnancy occurs, talk to your healthcare provider. Is Oxycodone Safe During Pregnancy?
OOOOO OK, I always thought that the oxycontin's were the WAY more powerful ones but really it's the oxycodone (percs)
But since I lost weight, my blood pressure is okay now. I've been on the oxycodone for a long time and my appetite is still poor. It's not the worst thing, really. But I do need to make a conscious effort to make the meal count nutritionally.
Also, just an FYI, Oxycodone and any narcotics really aren't very good for chronic headaches as they tend to cause worse rebound headaches. Good luck to you!
I have been off the buprenorphine for 8 days but I am maintaining at 40mg of oxycodone. I do have a doctor and I'm going to quit the oxycodone in a few hours. I don't smoke or drink and I eat fairly healthy. My current pain level is very low so I want to attempt to become drug free.
23, 2011 because it was so longer functioning/was diseased/with no real gallstones, just very few tiny ones... Also, have been taking Oxycodone ASPA for pain, I have been in pain on and off and was told from the LFT's that I had inflamed liver and I should be in no pain, as I am in alot of pain. While in the ER In-patient care at the hospital they did a Endoscopy Procedure (Empiric Biliary Sphincterotomy) on Oct. 24, 2011...
Opiates are also known for their high addiction potential. Just for reference, Percocet is often 325 mg. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and 5 mg. Oxycodone. Percocet is Immeadiate Release, but you'd be more likely to overdose on Acetaminophen than the Oxycodone.
