Common Questions and Answers about Overcome fear of heights

fear

Avatar n tn I have developed a fear of heights that has interfered with my ability to enjoy my favorite winter sport...snow skiing. The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing.
Avatar f tn I'm 28 years old and ever since I was a boy I had this fear of heights and staircases that lead up to buildings which have floors 2 and above, coming to the floor fear, when I'm on the 2nd floor or a floor level higher than that, if there are inverted reflections on floors and ceilings, I panic badly.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar m tn One of the ways that people do this is by steering clear of the situations that make them anxious. If you have a fear of heights, you might drive three hours out of your way to avoid crossing a tall bridge. Or if the prospect of public speaking leaves your stomach in knots, you might skip your best friend’s wedding in order to avoid giving a toast. Aside from the inconvenience factor, the problem with avoiding your fears is that you never have the chance to overcome them.
Avatar m tn Fear of driving off the road. Fear of losing love. Fear of failure.
Avatar f tn The first type is beneficial and is to be encouraged. The second type is a detriment and is to be overcome. The first type of fear is fear of the Lord. This type of fear does not necessarily mean to be afraid of something. Rather, it is a reverential awe of God; a reverence for His power and glory. However, it is also a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is a total acknowledgement of all that God is, which comes through knowing Him and His attributes.
Avatar m tn welcome Mav I suffer from fear of germs resulting in handwashing obsessively and also fear of getting poisened from trees, poisoness plants etc. I do also have obsessive thoughts if I dont do something someone will die that I know. I fear taking new medicines too and if they react to medicine I already take.
Avatar m tn Just curious if you eventually had the crowns re-worked? I've had a worsening fear of heights whereas I could climb up a ladder 10 years ago...it's gotten to a point now that I can no longer transition from the ladder to the roof. I've gotten crowns in between that time, and while I doubt it's connected, your comments got me wondering.
Avatar m tn 8 weeks ago I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and have been overcome with fear, guilt, anxiety, stress, and border line depression. I tested at 6 weeks and 4 days, and it came back negative (4th Generation, from what I understand pretty much conclusive). Anyhow, symptoms mean nothing as I swore I had almost every symptom. Now it's on me to trust in God and forgive myself. Trust the advice givers on this forum, repent for your sins and God will see you through.
Avatar m tn Agreed. But some of these fears can be overcome. Puppies and chicks tend to be fast moving. Find the right kind of puppy at a pound or store, and I bet his response will be different.
Avatar f tn She asked me again if I was sure I didnt want sex, I declined and reassured her I didnt want to sleep with her, I did not even kiss her because even in that state at the back of my mind I kept reminding myself of the risks of engaging in a sexual act with her. Eventually she wanted to sleep so I told her she could sleep in my bed but I was not going to join her so she slept alone in my bed and I stayed up for 30mins to an hour finishing up my drink and I fell aslept on my couch.
Avatar f tn To overcome anxiety, one must understand the logic of why the brain is feeling threatened, it sends messages to the body saying its under threat. New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying.
Avatar f tn Under suitable conditions light falling on the eye may render visible certain objects within the eye itself. So, this type of problem make an issue after some time so as soon as possible you go for the eye care specialist. I hope your problem overcome early.
454863 tn?1208306979 I'm sure this all stems from your 7 story fall and therapy would greatly benefit you. This isn't a case of "face your fears"......this is a real fear with good reason. You're a very lucky person to have survived a fall of such magnitude and if a fear of being up high is all you suffer with as a result of this....you're even luckier! Many of us have some fear of heights, but if it interferes with your life then why not seek help so you can ease this anxiety?
Avatar m tn I become so frightened during the period of time where I try to fall asleep that I simply do not do it. I find myself finding excuses to stay awake. It's not the sleep itself that scares me, it's the part where I lay in the dark and the silence. I'm afraid of all kinds of crazy things that don't bother me when I am not trying to sleep. I can't keep anything that is bothering me, any kinds of irrational fears, or any unusual superstitions out of my head.
Avatar n tn I had a traumatic experience when I was a young child which left me with the fear of uncontrolled bleeding. I have attempted to overcome this fear through therapy and work in medical and dental offices. However, it returns to paralyze me at times. I need a molar extracted due to an abcess and the fear of bleeding has returned. I have had extractions in the past and obviously I survived but the anxiety continues to be huge.
Avatar f tn worried about the attack, sometimes I thought of just hack care it, go enjoy myself and started to plan something but my fear or worried will just come naturally ,my head will start to be very tense as if my blood pressure is shooting high, like I'm going to get stroke? I don't know why, I kept telling myself it's ok just relax, but the horrid feeling make me stop my planning again, my children is sad that I always disappoint them. I'm very sad too.
Avatar m tn I was trying to get assurance on one symptoms, another symptoms I will pickup from the internet, like this cycle continuing, While browsing the anxiety I came across a word Variant Angina(which is without blockage, your arteries will go to temporary spasm/stop blood) I somehow manage to overcome this fear after lot of efforts but, one setback came, that, the way to diagnose is to hyperventilate the patient & do EKg. Since then i got more feared.
Avatar m tn My son who is around 3.2 yrs has a constant fear of winds and rains .This fear comes from the fact that a couple of days back our window broke due to heavy rains and winds. And one of the glasses from the window fell on my wife's leg leaving a deep cut with blood oozing out. He was an audience to all these events and from that day on he has manifested the fear of winds. Now with the slighest of winds he gets scared making him un easy and cranky.
583178 tn?1219071463 t want that fear anymore, than you need to confront it. You need to meet the fear of heights and not run. That's step one. Sure, there will be setbacks. However, keep trying. Eventually, the final step is to submerse yourself (in this case go to the highest point in the world) and just allow yourself to do it. Be with the fear. Allow it to wash over you. Once you surface, you will feel less fear the next time and so on. That's the same thing with anxiety.
Avatar f tn Ok I'm a 15 year old male who has had many shots in life. Not in recent past though. My cousins always talked about fear of needles, and until that time I didn't mind them. Now they are the scariest things. At least I think remember I haven't had a shot recently except for at the dentist. I have readabout passing out when recieving a shot, although would that happen to me since I never have before? Do numbing solutions work?
Avatar f tn As you said, the newfound fear of anxiety can be attributed to the fact that you had panic attacks during your last flight. It is similar, in a way, to agoraphobia. For your next flight, you can ask you doctor if you can take 1mg of Xanax to see if that helps. However, Xanax is relatively short-acting (effects last about 5 hours). Klonopin is probably a better option. It is very similar to Xanax, but it lasts a lot long (10-12 hours).
Avatar f tn I have such an intense phobia of fly larvae that the very thought of this ever happening to me makes me want to die. I don’t know what to do.
2183887 tn?1338721728 I understand, although I don't fear crowded spaces, or the toilet. I am absolutely terrified of heights and bees. I cant stand being to high off the ground or i start to hyperventilate. And when there's a bee near, I either run away screaming or start to shake with fear. But what I do is try to convince myself that I'm not going to die, an I try to regulate my breathing. That's what I suggest to you. Better yet, you should go see your doctor, and see what they have to say.
