Avatar f tn Hi, Thyroid disease. Both an overactive and underactive thyroid can cause hair loss. The hair loss associated with thyroid disease can be reversed with proper treatment. It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination. Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing. Regards.
Avatar f tn I am feeling absolutely fine and have never been diagnosed with thyroid problems in the past. In fact, I am pretty overweight just due to not dieting or exercising like I should have been. They prescribed me the lowest dosage of Synthroid available. I cannot for the life of me understand why they would give this to me having a slightly overactive thyroid because I am under the impression that it is for people with underactive thyroids.

Avatar f tn That is a thyroid drug, right? Though there might be problems for a baby if the mother takes it (all apparently reversible, by the way -- things like the baby has a goiter), I haven't seen in the literature any claim that there is a possibility of problems if the father takes it. If you are nervous, you could go to the drug manufacturer's website and look up their FAQ, or even phone their 800 number and ask.
Avatar f tn It means you could either have hypo or hyper thyroidsm... its where either you thyroid is overactive or underactive. I have hypothyroidism so mine is under active and I have to take a medication everyday and get regular bloodwork done to make sure its functioning correctly. Its not really a big deal as long as you take the meds prescribed. How far along are you?
