Don't know about chances of malignancy yet, but I suspect pretty high due to age and size. I'm not in very good condition due to neurological problems for last 8 months.

Avatar n tn Ovarian cysts are not that uncommon. Some go away on their own. The important thing is to have a doctor monitor them. I did have one burst some years ago and needed emergency surgery. I had acute pain, abdominal and actually had rectal spasms. Doc in the ER made a bad call. It was my own doc that sent me for tests and it was discovered it had burst. I had surgery but my doc at the time, due to my age, actually left part of that ovary and my other one.

Avatar n tn First, important point: My mother died of ovarian cancer January 2009, at the age of 76. My main concern after that was getting my ovaries removed (I had a hysterectomy in 1994, at the age of 37.) In September, 2010, after it was discovered that I had several ovarian cysts, I had surgery to remove them and my ovaries, tubes, and scar tissue. March 2012, I had ovarian cysts removed again. Note that these cysts have caused no pain, but a very swollen & bloated abdomen.

368844 tn?1262319347 I am 39 and only recently started having ovarian cysts. They were not tested for cancer. At the time I was undergoing a complete thyroidectory for thyroid cancer. Avatar n tn Common things being common, fibroids, which are benign muscle growths of the wall of the uterus, can give you pain and heavy bleeding. Avatar n tn So far it sounds like your doctor is doing all the standard treatment. The BC pills may shrink the cysts. I did that in my teens because I was forming multiple cysts and they hurt. It helped a lot. In my mid 50's I developed a cyst and I was post menopausal. Ha, I thought I was done with this nonsense. Mine was 10 cm, had surgery to remove it along with the ovary and tube. But it was all fine, no cancer. Over 90% of cysts are not cancer which is good news.
Avatar n tn I am worrying myself about the possibility of ovarian cancer due to my age, having taken Clomid 17 yrs ago for 11 cycles, plus I am also having heartburn symptoms. I always thought I could attribute the heartburn to certain foods, but now wonder if it is related? Can you please tell me: 1. What are the chances that this is ovarian cancer? 2. What exactly are the "indigestion" symptoms that go along with ovarian cancer?
Avatar f tn I am 15 as well and was diagnosed with ovarian cysts at age 14. I feel you on the diziness! I was dizzy for about 3 weeks. It would happen when I would stand up from sitting down, when I was walking down the stairs, and sometimes just sudden bursts of diziness. I have a question for you. Do you have a hard spot or lump that you can feel when you poke on the right side of your stomach towards your belly button and below your rib cage?
Avatar f tn 98% of all ovarian cysts are benign. Unless you have the BRCA mutation you have less of 1% chance you have ovarian cancer. It is good they are checking again. I had cysts and they thought it was PCOS so they did not tell me. You could have the same case. I do have ovarian cancer but I have the BRCA 1 mutation and two close relatives with ovarian cancer and two with prostate cancer before the age of 60. I just would worry or what if just yet.
Avatar f tn This imbalance can cause changes in the menstrual cycle, acne, hirsutism (AKA a lot of hair where there is usually only a minimum amount like on the back), ovarian cysts, and infertility. Those with PCOS are also at an increased risk of developing insulin resistance (will have high blood sugar) which can lead to diabetes. It depends on your particular case as to how you will be treated. For instance, I take metformin and spironolactone.
Avatar n tn Ovarian cysts are extremely common - so do not worry. However, they can also be extremely painful and can grow extremely large. Each month, when a woman ovulates, small follicles form on the outer part of the ovary. These follicles look like little marbles almost through an ultrasound. Now, during your period - these follicles are, keyword here 'supposed' to break free with the lining of your period but for some women, they do not.

Avatar n tn Hi There Josse It is reasonable at your age to repeat a scan in 2 months. At age 37 , most cysts are related to the menstrual cycle and ovulation. They are a normal part of what ovaries do. I would call a 5 cm cyst medium sized.
