682122 tn?1233186551 Ovarian cysts are mostly benign, but there are riskier in older women. From what I have been told, in the case of older women, they might remove the whole ovary to avoid regrowth of the cyst. If discovered to be cancerous, they will remove both oavaries and fallopian tubes. It also depends on what type of cyst you have. Were you told? Talk to your doctor about how he/she plans on approaching this. Good luck!
Avatar n tn It will usually grow and cause more symptoms. But, sometimes, benign complex cysts also grow and have to be removed surgically. Generally, when it reaches 5cm or greater or shows a trend toward growing..surgery is recommended. I did have backache with my tumor. It was 6cm. I know doctor's don't usually acknowledge that small cysts can contribute to back pain. But, there are many women who have had small cysts and do have pain. I think it can contribute to it.
Avatar f tn suggested you do ? Ovarian Cysts and ovarian cancer can cause many similar symptoms. There is absolutely no way to tell for certain unless and until surgery is performed and the path results come back. Having said that, cysts are very very common and 95% benign. The best course of action is to speak with your physician to see what his recommended course of action is. They may possibly suggest removal, but sometimes, they prefer to wait awhile to see if they resolve themselves.
Avatar n tn Cysts in or around the ovaries may be a sign of a number of things, including but not limited to PCOS. I also have cysts around my ovaries and was diagnosed with multicystic ovarian syndrome. My OBGYN is one of the top docs in Chicago and has practiced for 30+ years. So, basically, he's seen it all. Please note, multicystic ovarian syndrome is different than polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am hoping that someone has had some experience with ovarian cysts and the use of birth control (nuva ring) to prevent ovulation. My doctor started me on the nuva ring in hopes that it would help with the pain from bilateral ovarian simple cysts that measure 5cm and 4.2 cm. If anyone has experience with this type of treatment please respond to the following questions. Does birth control help with the pain from ovarian cysts? Does using birth control help ressolve the existing cysts?
Avatar n tn Common things being common, fibroids, which are benign muscle growths of the wall of the uterus, can give you pain and heavy bleeding. Ovarian cysts can be related to ovulation, or benign growths, endometriosis and so on. To sort that out, usually repeat scans are obtained over 3 to 6 months to see dynamically how the cysts come and go. Depending on your age, birth contorl pills are commonly tried to control heavy bleeding and pain.

I haven't had a period for 3 months now and I have a sharp pain in my lower right side, as well as back pain, especially in the mornings. once in a while i am off balance when walking. i am bloated, and a lot of times i don't have an appetite.
Avatar m tn Hi Nancy, Did an OB/GYN give you these results (not the ultra sound tech or nurse)? They should have given you some sort instructions in terms of follow-up. I would be worried too if they just gave me information and didn't explain it to me. Assuming you are dealing with an OB/GYN could you call them and ask the questions you have? I know it's scary sometimes, but you deserve to have all of your questions answered. In the mean time: Mayoclinic.

I ask because I have the following: -gas -bloat/distended stomach -pressure -changes in BM's (constipation and diarrhea) -get full easily after eating -tired/fatigues -heartburn/indigestion -changes in menstruation Thank you.
Avatar n tn Ovarian cysts can affect hormones so can cause menstrual cycle changes but yours seem extreme for ovarian cysts. Ovarian cysts are common and usually resolve on their own. Do you know the size of the one(s) you have? As far as family history of cancers, does that include any Gyn cancers especially ovarian cancer? I don't think there's any correlation between Gyn cancers and other types except in the case of Lynch Syndrome which is associated with colon, endometrial and ovarian cancer.

Avatar f tn I went to see and endocrinologist because my last reading was 4.68 and I keep having issues with ovarian cysts. My GYN wanted to make sure it was not PCOS because my sister has it. My other sister is hypothyroid and she is active and states that she feels awful when her TSH is greater than 2. I am just wondering if some are more sensitive to hormone fluctuations than others? I have never had an issue with ovarian cysts or fatigue before. This is not me...
