Avatar n tn During my followup ultra sound it is discovered that now - not in addition to, have one functional cyst on my left ovary about 15 mm that depics blood tissue as well and one complex cyst on my right ovary that is 15 mm that is suspicous. The doctor has recommended that the ovary be removed. They did a CA125 and the value was 12. I have had issue with my bowels - always feel bloated and like I need to take laxitives. I eat small portions, no red meat and get plenty of fiber.
Avatar n tn i read on a medical web page not long after finding out that i myself have a hemmhoragic cyst on my left ovary that fertility drugs can help to cause ovarian cysts because most ovarian cysts are caused by the eggs not making it all the way out of the ovary or something of that sort and they just kind of pile up inside of the ovary and form a cyst. however, i did read that most ovarian cysts go away sometime during ovulation.
Avatar m tn It would be unusual for her to have a problem with the remaining ovary. Usually, ovarian cysts pose no other issue once they have been removed. She should talk to her doctor to make sure there was not anything unusual about her cyst that could affect the other ovary. But, in general, she should be fine!
Avatar f tn The size of the cyst may necessitate the removal of your ovary but some surgeons with good cystectomy skills can remove large cysts without removing all ovarian tissue. That may be worth pursuing since you're so young. Removal of even one ovary can permanently disrupt ovarian hormone function impairing not only fertility but many aspects of health since ovarian hormones are essential to good health. I hope surgery goes well! Please post with an update.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry no one responded... I thought I had but evidently did not. Most ovarian cysts are benign (non-cancerous) and resolve on their own in about 3 months. If they don't resolve and you end up needing surgery, you shouldn't need to lose your ovary if the cysts are benign (as shown by frozen section) and you have a surgeon with good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills.
Avatar f tn You can freak yourself out googling ovarian cysts. Ovarian cancer is scary. Tee statistic I read today is that you have 1.4% of getting ovarian cancer which is not very high. That means you have a 99.6% you will never get ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago I had my left ovary and tube removed because of a large hemorraghic cyst. The path report came back and said I had two cysts on the same ovary, one hemmoraghic and one endometrioma. The surgical notes said I had a lot of hemmoraghic adhesions attached to the bowel. Prior to surgery, my periods were horrible (I'm 51 and not yet menopausal). I was hoping for a reprieve now that I only have one ovary but wouldn't you know it, I am now having a painful period again.
Avatar f tn I have been having lower abdomen problems (burning constantly) for about a year. I have been seeing a Gastroenterologist and have numerous test done and have been diagnosed with GERD and Barretts Esophagus and IBS. I take medication and watch what I eat but nothing helps. I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems.
Avatar f tn My cousin had ovarian cancer on one and had it get it removed and ended up having 2 healthy pregnancies and she is on her third!
Avatar n tn I have had several operations for ovarian cysts removal. 12 years ago I had my right ovary removed because the cyst spread over the whole ovary, and 2 years ago it spread to the left ovary, and had that removed. Now the cyst on my left ovary has resurfaced. I am feeling alot of pain, and I have been to the doctor and was told to follow up on my cyst but I never did because of insurance reasons. But I have been having pains on my left side, like a burning and painful sensation.
Avatar n tn Also the dermoid can be diagnosed on ultrasound. Functional ovarian cysts resolve spontaneously many times. For the rest surgical management becomes necessary especially if they are large. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I was suppose to go in for surgery on August 10th 2016 to get the left ovary removed and the right one looked at and some biopsies but when I went on medical leave my place of employment immediately cancelled my insurance so I have had to go back to work and cancel my insurance and I am freaking out because this is my body not theirs and I am no further to an answer now as I was at my first appointment back in January 2016.
Avatar f tn I am sorry you are dealing with this. The good thing is that most ovarian cysts are benign and most resolve on their own. However, these sound like the type that do not go away so need to be surgically removed especially the larger one due to size. According to radiology websites, hypoechoic cysts are usually endometriomas or teratomas (dermoids) both of which are benign (non-cancerous) cysts. Of course, imaging is not exact so they cannot know for sure until they do surgery.
Avatar f tn One was the size of a grapefruit and twisted twice on its stalk on my left ovary and the other on my right ovary was the size of a softball. I went to the ER in pain and had them taken out a few days later. The Dr also said he removed parts of my ovaries but left some ovary tissue on both sides (more on the right than the left). He was really vague and will find out more info at my followup. My question is how is this going to affect me fertility. I do want more kids.
Avatar m tn The cyst was discovered while trying to determine the cause of abdominal pain that turned out to be a ruptured cyst on the right ovary. After reading a lot on the internet, it seems that removing it more common than watching and waiting, but I cannot find any discussion about removing the ovary in a perimenopausal woman. I understand that my right ovary would continue to function, but wonder if there is an underlying risk of which I am not aware.
Avatar f tn Good afternoon. I just stumbled across this site after googling ‘ovarian cysts‘. I wondered if anyone out there has ever been in my (worrying) situation. I am 27 years old, a mummy to a beautiful 2 year old and 12 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I had an emergency scan around 6 weeks into this pregnancy due to pain on my right side. My GP feared an ectopic pregnancy. To my relief baby was fine. However, an 8cm side was found on my right ovary with a daughter cyst inside.
Avatar f tn The concern is if they get too large, they can cause the ovary to twist on itself (ovarian torsion) which can cause the ovary to die. However, you have the risk of losing the ovary with surgery too. Hopefully, your gynecologist or any other you would choose would have good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills so you would not have to lose your ovary since that can hinder fertility.
Avatar f tn Having two periods can be a cause of many things mostly STD related or ovarian cysts. The pain could also be from prolonged STD causing PID or a cyst on the ovary. I would suggest an STD screening. During the vaginal exam the doctor would be able to see if you have a cervical drip from prolonged STD cause PID and if that isn't the case and it is just cysts on the ovary's they usually just prescribe you birth control to regulate it. I have been in your same situation.
Avatar n tn MOST ovarian cysts (even complex / suspicious looking ones) are benign and it seems ovarian cysts are more common after hysterectomy due to the histological changes to the ovaries (likely due to loss of blood flow and feedback loop with the uterus). If your gynecologist deems this cyst concerning based on the traits specified on the ultrasound, you will want to see a gynecologic oncologist.
Avatar f tn m sorry it took so long to get this looked at. Most ovarian cysts, even complex ones, are benign so you should not need to lose your ovary. We need all our female parts our whole lives for good health. Studies have shown removal of even one part - an ovary, ovary, the uterus even Fallopian tube - has negative effects on our long-term health and well-being. Unfortunately, removal of women's sex organs is grossly overused.
Avatar n tn and yet, only one ovary. Is this ovary working extra because I only have the one... or should I really push my doctor for further testing? I am getting scared, I am so tired, in pain... I did have another transvaginal ultrasound in July 2009.. the "small cysts" that were on my left ovary before were still there and had grown about 1.5 cm.... not much... but what if they are still growing? What would you do?
Avatar n tn This would probably be better answered on the ovarian cyst forum. Most cysts and masses are benign, Only about 12 % are ovca. If in doubt, ask to be referred to a gyn/ocologist.
Avatar n tn All he found was small cysts on my left ovary, which he drained. The pain on my left side started after 10 months after I had my tubes blocked (essure procedure). Are you familiar with the this procedure? I live in a small town and here not everybody is up to date with this procedure. Last time I went for a vaginal ultrasound the technician asked me if I had an IUD.
1156733 tn?1262479295 I have four cysts on my left ovary, one of which is complex, and a solid cyst on my right ovary. My mother has Stage 3 ovarian cancer and had a double mastectomy at 33 years old. She is now 62 and one and a half years post surgery from the ovarian cancer. My hormone levels are normal but I have not had a cycle since 9/9/09. I am in pain every day and on painkillers. Both the pain and painkillers are making working very difficult. I have seen a gyn onc.
692998 tn?1257150368 Hello! I'm pretty stressed over a pelvic ultrasound I had the other day. The tech said there were 4 "significant" (her word) cysts on my left ovary, that were not the functional cysts that come and go with ovulation. My right ovary was removed last year due to a large tumor on it, which was later diagnosed as borderline malignancy. Also, these developed rather quickly as I have been on birth control since March, and had a pelvic ultrasound around that time as well that was clear.
