Avatar f tn Hello I am 54 and just had an ultrasound that has discovered 3 cysts 2 on my ovaries and 1 they are not sure what it is attached to so I am being sent for more tests, I am really scared because I keep reading that if you have cysts past the menopause then they are more than likely to be cancerous, is this true? Is there any other post menopausal women who have cysts? I have slight abdominal bloating bit of lower back pain, NO bleeding slight abdominal pain but other than that feel fine??
Avatar n tn Benign cysts can form on menopausal women....and it is my understanding that someone is not in "menopause" until they have gone 12 months without having a period. Most cysts, well over 90 percent are benign. Not sure what blood test the doctor is taking. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!!!!
Avatar n tn Many cysts do resolve themselves but the fact that you are having pain may mean they have not. Please have your doctor run another transvaginal ultrasound to check. Good luck with everything.
Avatar n tn If you are menopausal and you think the cysts are causing the bleeding then they should be removed. Cysts don't cause bleeding but certain ovarian tumors can be hormonally active. Did the doctor mention what kind of cysts these are? Most common ones are the one corpus luteum cysts following ovulation, if you're in menopause you can't be ovulating.
Avatar m tn Breast cysts are usually easily defined by mammogram or ultrasound. Ovarian cysts are not related to breast cysts or to cysts in any other part of the body. Regards ....
Avatar f tn I have been taking iron supplements(I am very anemic), milk thisle, daily vitamins and have just begun to add menopause supplements in to my diet as recommended previously to prevent excessive bleeding. Should I be concerned and why does this continue to happen? Thank You!
Avatar n tn Some of the causes of irregular periods are ovarian cysts, stress, anemia, and hormonal disorders like thyroid and adrenal malfunction. Please consult your OBGYN as soon as possible as exact cause can be identified only after a clinical examination and tests like ultrasound and blood test. Take care!
Avatar n tn I'm sorry your mom had ovarian cancer. It's hard to say what may have caused this early bleeding. Cysts can cause hormonal changes. But it could also be the hormonal changes associated with perimenopause, the years leading up to menopause.
Avatar n tn Are you menopausal now or going through peri-menopause? If you're still having some cycles, then your cysts are probably normal. The cyst size is about the norm for monthly functional cysts. Hot flashes, emotional upheavals, erratic periods and insomnia are some of the usual symptoms of peri-menopause. Your doctor can monitor the cysts, make sure they don't get too large or cause problems.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts are very common and affect mainly women in their 30s and 40s. Women who are past menopause (ages 50-70) and have ovarian cysts have a higher risk of having ovarian cancer. The only way to diagnose ovarian cancer is looking at the cells under a microscope. There are tumour markers the doctors can test for called CA-125 and CA19-9 (both are blood tests) however numbers can be higher due to inflammation.
Avatar f tn I have been having lower abdomen problems (burning constantly) for about a year. I have been seeing a Gastroenterologist and have numerous test done and have been diagnosed with GERD and Barretts Esophagus and IBS. I take medication and watch what I eat but nothing helps. I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems.
Avatar f tn Hi jojo, Why not come visit us on the Ovarian Cyst Forum. This forum is primarily for Ovarian Cancer and there probably will be more folks replying to you on the "cyst" forum. You could also check out the Hysterectomy Forum. I had my ovary removed when I had the cyst removed but I'm also post menopausal so it really isn't the same as it is for you.. Pop on over to the Ovarian Cyst forum and post this over there..
Avatar n tn MRI following an ultrasound is not routine, no. Checking back 3 years is not routine, either. I don't understand the logic of that at all. The only time I've heard of doctors checking previous films was to check previous mammograms, not previous ovarian ultrasounds (at least not 3 years back). It's not just the sizes of cysts that matter, what about the nature of these cysts?
Avatar f tn I started having abdominal pain after a recent fall. I actually thought I had jarred mybladder loose. Anyway the doc ordered an ultrasound. As soon as it was done the tech said we are going to show this to the radiologist and be right back. After sometime she came back and said we found no damage around your bladder but you do have a cyst on your ovary that is almost twice the size of your ovary. She said the radiologist would be calling my doctor this am with this information.
Avatar n tn Typically, it can be chalked up to sporadic ovarian activity or something benign (non-cancerous) like fibroids or benign ovarian cysts (which typically cause hormonal changes). I have connected with many women who have had post-meno bleeding that did not need any treatment. Unfortunately, too many women end up with hysterectomies that are unnecessary and leave them in worse health than before. Even ACOG says way too many hysterectomies are being done with 76% not meeting their criteria.
Avatar f tn It will be thinnest right after your period ends. Ovarian cysts are a normal part of the cycle but sometimes hang around longer than normal which can cause some symptoms. It can be difficult to differentiate bowel discomfort from gynecologic issues. So if your symptoms cannot be tied to your reproductive system, you may want to consult a gastroenterologist (GI doctor).
Avatar f tn My gyn says that no period for ONE YEAR = menopause. You are very close to that milestone. Fibroids are supposed to lessen after menopause but you may not be at that advantage point yet. Ovarian cysts are a possibility...they can still occur after menopause although it doesn't make any sense since ovulation is supposed to be over. Maybe something goes terribly wrong with the final ovulation cycle. I don't think even the doctors understand why it happens, only that it does.
Avatar f tn So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?
Avatar n tn I would not be concerned, but, I would go to the gyn and have it checked....probably nothing. There is a great forum for Ovarian Cysts. There are many fabulous women over there that can probably offer more guidence and support regarding cysts. This forum is mainly about Ovarian Cancer.
Avatar n tn If you really want the problem to end, then removal of the ovaries would solve things, IF they are truly ovarian cysts and not ones caused by endometriosis. If endo is the cause, then they would recommend a hysterectomy. All of these are really final decisions and not easy ones to make. If you are young, loss of ovaries can require you to take hormones until you reach an appropriate menopause age.
Avatar n tn Hi, my name is Jennifer. For about 3 years now, I have been living with ovarian cysts. At first it was my left ovary, but now it has been my right ovary that has been the source of difficulty. I have ended up in the hospital 3 times due to the pain that is caused when the cysts enlarge and bleed. I thought it was a burst cyst, but I think I was mistaken. The hospital visits were primarily due to the extreme pain I was in (the morphine did little to help!).
Avatar n tn Common things being common, fibroids, which are benign muscle growths of the wall of the uterus, can give you pain and heavy bleeding. Ovarian cysts can be related to ovulation, or benign growths, endometriosis and so on. To sort that out, usually repeat scans are obtained over 3 to 6 months to see dynamically how the cysts come and go. Depending on your age, birth contorl pills are commonly tried to control heavy bleeding and pain.
Avatar m tn re near menopause, the remaining ovary would continue to function until you reach menopause if you chose surgery. A laparascopic surgery to remove the cyst and ovary would be the only way to know for sure if the cyst is benign however. Most cysts are benign but size is not the determining factor. I just had a 10 cm cyst removed (laparascopically I might add) 2 weeks ago. She removed the ovary and tube. I was so happy to find out it was benign but also happy to have it out of there.
Avatar m tn I have an extremely high ca-125 of 850. I have done an ultrasound and have two cysts located in my left ovary as well as a very large uterine fibroid. I have also suffered from endometriosis for the last ten years or so. I currently am 45 years old and have not reached menopause. Over the last few months I have experienced persisting pain in my uterus and heavy bleeding that have caused me to become anemic and lethargic.
Avatar m tn 1. A 3.6x2.6 cm septated multiocular left ovarian cysts, with no evidence of abnormal enhancing soft tissue components, highly in favor of a benign lesion. The right ovary is not visulazied. However there are no right-sided adnexal lesions. 2. A 2.5x1.6 cm submucosal uterine fibroids. 3. Suspect a few suncentimeter endometrial/endocervical polyps 4. No pelvic lymphadenopathy or ascites. 5.
Avatar f tn It could be a couple things, anything from benign cysts on your ovaries to possble cancer. Mind you im not a doctor, dont let me scare you, im just guessing here. At 45 you are at a higher risk for something like ovarian cancer, non stop bleeding is a symptom...but it could be a symptom of something else to. Check yourself to see if you have lower back and frontal abdominal cramping. Naseaua vomiting? I would go to your gyno and insist on deep pap smear and ultrasound.
Avatar f tn had , had tons of female troubles and thought take em then I will not have to worry about cysts or ovarian cancer,,,,which must be found very very early to be hopefull for a full recovery.
