Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age.
Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.
I would not say that thyroid nodules/goiters, etc are "common" in teenage girls. I would say that these issues are more common that realized, but still somewhat rare.
I would definately get a more conclusive testing. I do not feel that you are over-reacting. Better to err on the side of caution.
Back to your daughter: Depending on your family history, there could be a genetic influance pre-disposing your daughter to thyroid issues. More often than not, nodules are benign.
I agree with Cindy that it is very unlikely to be Ovarian Cancer. However, young girls do get cysts. Actually cysts are very very common in young premenopausal women and 95 % benign. You may want to check the top right of this page; "Health Pages" . It has a lot of information about cysts . Of course we don't know if she even has cysts. And.. we're not Drs. here.. She really needs to be seen my by a Gyn. It could be one of many things.

There are specific types of ovarian cancer that are more often found in children and adolescents that are different from those found in older women. In children and young girls ovarian cancer usually presents as an ovarian mass and typically they only report pain if the ovary twists and its blood supply is cut off.
So, ovarian cancer in young people is overall uncommon, but definitely occurs. Your symptoms would be atypical.

The best course of action is to speak with your physician to see what his recommended course of action is. They may possibly suggest removal, but sometimes, they prefer to wait awhile to see if they resolve themselves.

It probably wont have anything to do with your fertility, lot's of girls have irregular periods and it is very common in teenage years. When you go for a physical you will get a pap test that will determine if there is anything wrong, you should mention to your doctor that they have been abnormal as well.
It is possible that it could be a slight iron deficiency too.
My daughter is 11yrs old with an ovarian cysts of 4.4cm... Her testosterone levels are high, her glucose levels are high.. her blood level has dropped to a 9... What should I do... Gyne did an U/S which showed a 5 cm septated cyst- and is concerned of ovarian cancer due to symptoms. I had a complex ovarian cyst on opposite ovary a year ago, but no symptoms. It resolved on its own within 5-6 months. I'm just worried. I have 2 little girls, and I am a worrier anyways. Any helpful info? They are going to do MRI and bloodwork, then I can either schedule to see a specialist for 2nd opinion/ more info, or have my R overt removed.
For the past few weeks I have been experiencing, nausea, indigestion along with some back pain and urinary frequency- i am worried that these may be symptoms of ovarian cancer. ve had several ultrasounds and all of my u/s reports are confusing. First u/s showed bilateral ovarian cysts. Second u/s showed endometrium thickness of 9mm with bilateral ovarian cysts, hyperplasia, polyp, or even carcinoma, cervical nabothian cyst, etc.,.....after depo shot was given, the next u/s showed 7mm fibroid inside uterus, endometrium 3mm. Later, I could no longer tolerate depo shot after 6 months, due to huge red painful bruises that developed in my thighs and legs.

They mis-diagnosed my cervical stenosis for over 9 months and finally rushed me into emergency surgery when a civilian doc looked at me for 2 seconds. 1 cm. A few small subcentimeter left follicular ovarian cysts are identified. There is no longer evidence of previously described 2.0 cm complex left ovarian cyst.
The right ovary measures 3.8 x 2.0 x 4.0 cm and contains a thick walled complex right ovarian cyst measuring 3.4 x 1.4 x 4.0 cm. This was not noted on prior MRI examination. Clinical correlation and close follow-up is recommended.
Small amount of free fluid is noted within the cul-de-sac.

My case can look rather particular in fact it is the second time in ten years that I have to undergo surgery due to ovarian cysts ruptures on my right ovary and every time the doctors in ER first think of an acute appendicitis which make them run a quantity of useless tests while I am in pain and makes me even more doubtful and worried.
( I have no kids and i have policystic ovaries, so im afraid about fertility too, only my ovaries are like that (messed up) i do not have any of the other hormonal symptoms like producing more insulin or being over weight. Well if any of you amazing girls have any words of advice, or tips I would greatly appreciate it.
Anechoic cysts tend to be filled with fluid so that is a good sign. Cysts related to ovarian cancer tend to be complex (with solid parts) and grow larger than 5cm. Most cysts (even complex ones) turn out to be benign. It is the general recommendation to watch and wait cysts that are simple and under 5cm. But, since your cyst is already 4.1 cm., I can see why your doctor has mentioned surgery as a possibility. It is possible for your cyst to go away on its own in time.
