Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts and irregular bleeding

Avatar f tn Nabothian cysts are typically benign and of no major concern unless they cause discomfort. These are not the same as ovarian cysts and are not typically associated with cervical cancer. They do not explain what makes the uterus "bulky". Fibroids maybe? They, too, are typically benign but can cause bleeding issues that may mean some surgery to correct, but I believe that type of surgery could be done transvaginally by some doctors. Most are just left alone and watched.
Avatar n tn Women can get from time to time ovarian cysts. Usually they are simple cysts and not dangerous. I have had one myself. And they pass on their own. While you have them, you can have irregular bleeding, pain, hormonal changes. Then when they pass, it is painful. You often also have heavy bleeding. It is like a super magnified bad period with cramps and bleeding. Then you pretty much go back to normal after. I had one 15 years ago and do not think I've had any others since.
Avatar n tn Some of the causes of irregular periods are ovarian cysts, stress, anemia, and hormonal disorders like thyroid and adrenal malfunction. Please consult your OBGYN as soon as possible as exact cause can be identified only after a clinical examination and tests like ultrasound and blood test. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing extremely irregular bleeding and at times being consistent for a 30 days or so, lower back pain, random bouts of vomiting, bleeding after interconnected when not having usual bleeding, elevatrd WBC and lymphocytes etc. My question is they tested my Alpha-Fetoprotein levels and they are elevated, is this common with ovarian cysts or does this mean I need to be concerned with cancer? Any and all information would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have been researching ovarian cysts heavily, and am trying to figure out what I should do next.

Avatar n tn The most recent problem has been irregular bleeding and pain in the pelvic area, on one side, I had an ultrasound done where they found 2 cysts on one ovary and the other overy had folciles and fluid behind it. I know my Dr. thinks I blame everything on tamoxifen, but I never had anything like this before, is this connected? Should I be concered about this reducing my risk of being able to get pregent when I stop tamoxifen?
Avatar f tn Changes in menstrual bleeding are common. Women may have bleeding and spotting between periods, especially during the first few months. Sometimes the bleeding is heavier than usual, however, the bleeding usually becomes lighter than usual and may become irregular. Mirena makes the lining of the uterus thin, and this thinning causes lighter periods. Twenty percent of women completely stop having periods after using Mirena for a year.
Avatar n tn she had two children, and four years ago she started bleeding on and off every day, and it eventually got worse. she went to go see the doctor and they said that she had ovarian cysts and non-cancerous tumors that were blocking the flow of her blood. unfortunately they had to do a hysterectimy. this could possibly be the same thing that you have, it sounds right. i suggest you go check it out fairly soon.
Avatar f tn Metrorrhagia can occur due to dysfunction uterine bleeding, hormonal imbalance, polyps, fibroids, endometriosis, infections of the cervix, vagina or endometrium, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian insufficiency, ovarian cysts or benign lesions of the female reproductive system.
Avatar n tn If you have ovarian cysts, it can cause irregular periods. Especially if you are not taking birth control pills. You may be pregnant or may not be. Just take a pregnancy test this week and then two weeks after to confirm a negative or a positive. Or if you can afford it, go get a test by your health care provider.
Avatar n tn I had an MRI of my pituitary gland, and it looks normal, and my thyroid tests, testosterone, and other hormone levels are normal. They also did a dietetic panel which was also normal. And am now chronically constipated. A few days ago, I started lightly spotting (so who knows, maybe I finally ovulated), and I have a horrendous backache. Help!!! Does anyone know what this is?
Avatar f tn posts about their complications with ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids but no one seems to experience the exact same thing im experiencing and I really wanna get to the bottom of it. I'm 19 and discovered i had fibroids when i was 16. it didnt really effect me and didnt give me any complications until december of 2015 (when i was 18). i started the birth control: nexplanon (the one they insert in ur arm), in september of 2014, and i didnt bleed/have my period up until dec. 2015.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cancer is quite rare in women who do not have a genetic predisposition (less than 2% chance). Ovarian cysts are VERY common and most go away on their own. They can cause irregular bleeding. So the typical recommendation for most cysts is to monitor via periodic ultrasounds or just do another ultrasound if symptoms do not resolve.
Avatar f tn Although these traits can occur with cancer, they can also occur with benign cysts. And most cysts are benign. The average woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is very low at 1.3%. So if you do not have a genetic predisposition / family history of ovarian cancer then the odds are greatly in your favor that they are benign. Is your doctor monitoring them for now with periodic ultrasounds?
1636472 tn?1439182988 I have had an ovarian cyst and irregular bleeding because of it (more than normal). A thickened uterine lining is common with ovarian cysts. You've also had a good amount of hormonal manipulation which will have an effect. Tell us what the doctor says at your appointment. I would not be overly worried!
767588 tn?1241366743 Hi, Endometrial cancer usually occurs in older women, and presents with post menopausal or irregular bleeding. It is focal, and usually does not cause diffuse thickening of the endometrium. Please continue to be under close surveillance and treatment of your gynocologist for your present symptoms. You may also like to consult a genetic counselor and an oncologist for screening you for cancer, given your family history, personal history, and racial/ethnic history. All the best, and God Bless!
Avatar f tn I do not think menstrual clotting is an indication of a rupture. Cysts are outside the uterus (if they are true ovarian cysts), and ruptured ones would not show up in menstruation.
Avatar f tn HI, Bleeding or spotting between menses may be an indication of local issues in the cervix and vagina like erosion or polyps. Also hormonal imbalance and ovarian cysts can cause irregular bleeding. Hence it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. An ultrasound scan and Pap smear will help make a diagnosis. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor.
Avatar f tn I had a transvaginal u/s and was told I have a 4.5 cm ovarian cyst which is what will be causing the bleeding? Does anyone know if this sounds normal? I have lower back pain and abdominal pain (worse after sleeping), hip pain on the cyst side and bloating through the day and I keep getting diarrhoea from nowhere now! Any reassurance that this normal with a cyst would be fab?
Avatar f tn The characteristics that are more concerning for malignancy are multiple and/or thick septations and irregular borders. There are a number of ovarian cysts that are not simple that are always benign and appear black on imaging (and can have some white or gray areas) such as hemorrhagic (blood-filled), dermoid (mature teratoma), and endometrioma. If surgery is needed, it is best to have just the cyst removed (cystectomy) and not the ovary.
Avatar f tn During the early hours of this morning I was plagued with nightmares, woke up screaming and in tears. I went down to the bathroom and was bleeding a lot. When I wiped a few times I was then left with a small sack about the size of a walnut, it had ruptured but was not like the normal blood clots I get sometimes during my period. I've always suffered with irregular bleeding but this time just seems different.
Avatar m tn Erm I just got told hemaroid? I think! They're not doing anything apart from monitoring it but I can't explain the horrendous pain I'm in when I get one if my pains! It needs sorting but I don't know what todo next!
