Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

abscess

Hi. I hope someone out there can help me. I have been diagnosed with a "football sized" ovarian cyst, which will be removed during laparotomy surgery, the incision which will extend from just below the breast down to the hair line in a vertical incision. Also because of my age a hysterectomy will be performed, which given my age I can understand fully.
Also with your history of having had an anastomotic leak form your colon surgery makes me wonder if you could have old tubo-ovarian abscesses. I think surgery is the best option for risk reducing surgery given your family and personal history, for diagnosis and for treatment.
I had to practically beg my gynaecologist to give me the op as I had severe pain with fibroids. They also found ovarian cysts after the op which I didnt know I had. He was reluctant as I'm only 36 years old but my quality of life was rubbish. I went for my first real walk today. I was knackered but I want to shift some of the weight I've put on. I'm on HRT patches and havent had a hot flush for 2 weeks! hoorah they must be working.
I spent a month in the hospital after developing 2 abdominal abscesses/infections which required drains and a fistula at the incision site. I also had major stomach problems with vomiting while my colon was not working and processing the liquids in my system which caused chronic vomiting which I believe irritated my small hiatal hernia and GERD. I was discharged on 1/19/09 and have had continued problems with my GERD which has kept me sitting and lying down a lot.
July I had a 13 cm mucinous borderline ovarian tumor removed from my left ovary. My appendix burst in February (7 months after my TAH-BSO and tumor removal). My tumor had a lot of elements that looked very....malignant (eg. mural nodule anaplastic carcinoma, 6-10mm "microinvasion", extensive intraepithelial carcinoma...). They told me it was all okay and go live my life. Which I did for a while until in October I started to have symptoms again.

In your opinion is this normally cancer or can it just be a beign cysts or abscess? Ovarian cancer does not run in my family but I'm unsure if this matters. How long is the recovery time for something like this?
The u/s says it could be ovarian neoplasm, endometrioma, and tubo-ovarian abscess. It has taken over my right ovary and fallopian tube. Although I had an endometrial biopsy they are still saying my uterus could have hyperplasia or mass. I guess this waiting is starting to get to me.
I am going into the hospital on Sunday for a laparoscopy to drain what they believe is a tubo-ovarian abscess. They may also possibly remove things - ovary, tube, uterus or even portion of the bowel - if they find they're involved, making this even more invasive. I am currently ill from this abscess and running a fever, so maybe not totally coherent, forgive me.
I had the huge serous cystadenoma removed along with total hysterectomy in October. Lateley I have been having, pelvic pain, low grade fever and not so much constipation but just seemingly blocked - probable adhesions as Mary's ball rolling helped for a while. I began thinking I either had one of the rare cancerous cystadenomas misdiagnosed or Ovarian Remnant Syndrome as Cystic STRUCTURES began reappearing. I had 2 CT scans two weeks apart.
Is a tubal ovarian abscess the same as ovarian cyst? I had transvaginal pelvis US performed and could not get my surgeon's office to call me back on the results. I called twice that day and as told they would return my call, finally the next afternoon I went to the office and the nurse looked up from her computer and said oh yeah I have a note here I am to call you. I asked for my medical records and made an appointment with another Dr.
Pain can be from ovarian cysts that twist or grow, fibroids, inflammation and abscesses. 3. Bladder spasm can cause abdominal pain but usually is associated with other symptoms. Pain in the ureter (the tube that brings the urine from the kidney to the bladder) can be harder to sort out. Ureteral pain can be due to a stone or a spasm of the ureter. It would be more common to see back pain with this. 3.
mild asthma nodule on the right side of thyroid (go to endo for first time march 24) gallbladder removed ovarian cyst stress extreme fatigue according to doctors i have acid reflux (i do not get it often, maybe once or twice a month) more than i thought, i said four.
I'm not sure what the point of this post is, I guess it could be to warn others on the symptoms they should be aware of when thinking the frightening thought they might be dealing with ovarian cancer. Maybe it is to answer that ever-so-surfacing question that women ask, "These are my symptoms, could I have ovarian cancer?" Maybe it's just because I have been crying for the last hour about how this all came about for me, and I think writing about it would help.
Not to mention my therapist who I only see as needed. But that's a load of doctors. I got to drop the Gynecologist after my complete hysterectomy. I get different prescriptions for different conditions from the different doctors. Is that doctor shopping? Or is that just getting the best medical care you can? I use my local pharmacy for some things and the insurance mail in service for others. Is that illegal? Not according to my pharmacist and my insurance company.
I had a vaginal hysterectomy May 2002. I sustained small bowel-injury. Took 6 days to diagnose. I had severe peritonitis. I had a laparotomy with a small bowel re-section. I developed numerous abdominal abscesses. I had a wound infection. I had a 30 day hospital stay. I developed a fistula, but that healed on it's own. I declined further surgery and fought abcesses with antibiotics. Abcesses are now gone. I have had terrible problems with constipation since this happened.
can meckels diverticulum re-occur 6 years after operation to remove it ?. colonoscopy/gastroscopy after severe blood loss has failed to locate source of bleeding.
I too had endometriosis prior to my hysterectomy and ovarian cysts, but I have no idea if there is a correlation. I can tell you that many of my family members suffer from cysts (both men and women) and my mom was able to alleviate a lot of it by using perfume/dye free soaps for showering and washing her clothes. She also quite wearing perfume.
Did anyone have heavy bleeding that went away after just ovary removal? Has anyone had the ablasion, too? I am so glad to have someone to ask. You all seem to care so much for each other. How do I see info about you when you post? Is there a members list? I click on your names and nothing happens.
I was not prepared nor informed about how much pain i would be in after the surgery. Yesterday after the procedure i was OK, but as night fell OH MY GOD! I have only had cat naps and that is just out of exhaustion. I was in so much pain last night even after taking the pain medicine like its candy. I could not get into bed last night and had to lay on the couch. I had to go to the bathroom but i couldn't get up I was in so much pain.
When I woke up, however, my Surgeon was standing over me apologizing and telling me that the scar tissue in my belly button was too thick to cut through and they worked for 2 hours before deciding to do my hysterectomy by doing a bikini cut. 2 hours- I would have just went ahead and did it bikini cut after 20 minutes if it were up to me. Okay- so anyway-all that, and still not a single problem with my naval until 2 months ago.
After my shower a few days ago i noticed a "bump" on my right labia, it is slowly getting larger and it is not an external bump like a pimple, it is under the skin. Any ladies have any advice or should i try to get an appointment ASAP with my GYN? It is sore to the touch and red. No drainage or anything.
I was very concerned about birth control after I had my son because I did not want to get pregnant any time soon. I did not at all have any post partum issues it actually seemed that my hormones were even for the first time in my life. My doctor suggested that I have Mirena inserted as it was good for 5 years and I wouldn't have to worry about all of the typical problems that birth control brings.
I have had 5 or 6 upper rt abd pain attacks about 5 hours after eating. Bad pain. After an ultrasound, which couldn't locate my gall bladder, my doc ordered a nuclear scan. This also couldn't locate my gall bladder. I am in limbo, waiting for my doc to get back with me and suggest the next step. I haven't seen any other post from patients who have had such scans without finding the gall bladder. I don't know what it means.
Salty water to wash the area is also really good, and after the shower make sure you dry the area really well, a hair dryer works great (I am a nurse and this is what we get patients to do with the same problem as you, seems to work well.) Anyways, hope this helps some. Good Luck.
