Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

abscess

When I went back for my 4 wk checkup the doctor asked me a lot of questions, one was if I had a period and I told him yes. He then informed me that some women do have periods after a hysterectomy. AFTER HAVING A 2ND PERIOD SINCE SURGERY I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS NORMAL OR NOT????? Everyone says it isn't.
I have had frequent urination and bladder pressure for 7 months, with two UTI's negative, and a urologist appointment in a month- I'm concerned! After reading your message I realized it is a good idea to look into ovarian cysts. I never even thought about that until coming to this site. Would you, or anyone else recommend forgetting about the urologist and going straight to getting an ultrasound?
I've read and heard the bloating/swelling part you get after a hysterectomy can last up to 1 year too. I wake up and am one size and by night I'm bigger all over from the swelly belly type thing. I'm just at my 5 weeks of recovering and no where near putting on regular clothes. I've had a infection with an abscess inside since surgery and now a infected area in my stitches. It's been an interesting journey. Check out HysterSisters.com also for answers.
July I had a 13 cm mucinous borderline ovarian tumor removed from my left ovary. My appendix burst in February (7 months after my TAH-BSO and tumor removal). My tumor had a lot of elements that looked very....malignant (eg. mural nodule anaplastic carcinoma, 6-10mm "microinvasion", extensive intraepithelial carcinoma...). They told me it was all okay and go live my life. Which I did for a while until in October I started to have symptoms again.
Female, 42 y.o. morbidly obese 5'5" 263 12/05: severe LLQ pain, to ER after US and CTscan found colon rupture due to diverticulitis. had colon resection and temporary colostomy. 3/06: colostomy reversed but anastomosis did not take and had to be redone 6 days later. At this time a suprapubic partial hysterectomy was done for severe uterine fibroids. both ovaries, cervix left. Since March 06, have had problems with bowels and LLQ pain intermittmently.
In your opinion is this normally cancer or can it just be a beign cysts or abscess? Ovarian cancer does not run in my family but I'm unsure if this matters. How long is the recovery time for something like this?
The u/s says it could be ovarian neoplasm, endometrioma, and tubo-ovarian abscess. It has taken over my right ovary and fallopian tube. Although I had an endometrial biopsy they are still saying my uterus could have hyperplasia or mass. I guess this waiting is starting to get to me.
I had the huge serous cystadenoma removed along with total hysterectomy in October. Lateley I have been having, pelvic pain, low grade fever and not so much constipation but just seemingly blocked - probable adhesions as Mary's ball rolling helped for a while. I began thinking I either had one of the rare cancerous cystadenomas misdiagnosed or Ovarian Remnant Syndrome as Cystic STRUCTURES began reappearing. I had 2 CT scans two weeks apart.
I am going into the hospital on Sunday for a laparoscopy to drain what they believe is a tubo-ovarian abscess. They may also possibly remove things - ovary, tube, uterus or even portion of the bowel - if they find they're involved, making this even more invasive. I am currently ill from this abscess and running a fever, so maybe not totally coherent, forgive me.
Is a tubal ovarian abscess the same as ovarian cyst? I had transvaginal pelvis US performed and could not get my surgeon's office to call me back on the results. I called twice that day and as told they would return my call, finally the next afternoon I went to the office and the nurse looked up from her computer and said oh yeah I have a note here I am to call you. I asked for my medical records and made an appointment with another Dr.
I'm not sure what the point of this post is, I guess it could be to warn others on the symptoms they should be aware of when thinking the frightening thought they might be dealing with ovarian cancer. Maybe it is to answer that ever-so-surfacing question that women ask, "These are my symptoms, could I have ovarian cancer?" Maybe it's just because I have been crying for the last hour about how this all came about for me, and I think writing about it would help.
mild asthma nodule on the right side of thyroid (go to endo for first time march 24) gallbladder removed ovarian cyst stress extreme fatigue according to doctors i have acid reflux (i do not get it often, maybe once or twice a month) more than i thought, i said four.
I might mention that I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and my bowel was snipped, but my problem did not start until about 5 years ago. I don't know what my next step should be. It occurs out of the blue and I have no control over it. If I am sitting up in bed and have gas it is clearly coming from both ends. You know if you have regular gas you would at least have time to walk out of the room, but with this you don't. I want to hide from the world.
Not to mention my therapist who I only see as needed. But that's a load of doctors. I got to drop the Gynecologist after my complete hysterectomy. I get different prescriptions for different conditions from the different doctors. Is that doctor shopping? Or is that just getting the best medical care you can? I use my local pharmacy for some things and the insurance mail in service for others. Is that illegal? Not according to my pharmacist and my insurance company.
She is going to treat it as a bacterial infection first. After ten days, I go back and if the lump is still there she is going to order a ct scan and do a rectal exam.
About 18 months later, I started suffering from stomach cramps much the same kind I experienced before the initial operation. After going into the emergency room and discussing my condition with a gastroenterologist on call, I found out I had adhesions from the original scarring that occurred after the initial operation. These adhesions were described to me and I understood that some of them had a tendency to squeeze off the small intestine causing a partial blockage.
After my shower a few days ago i noticed a "bump" on my right labia, it is slowly getting larger and it is not an external bump like a pimple, it is under the skin. Any ladies have any advice or should i try to get an appointment ASAP with my GYN? It is sore to the touch and red. No drainage or anything.
I have had 5 or 6 upper rt abd pain attacks about 5 hours after eating. Bad pain. After an ultrasound, which couldn't locate my gall bladder, my doc ordered a nuclear scan. This also couldn't locate my gall bladder. I am in limbo, waiting for my doc to get back with me and suggest the next step. I haven't seen any other post from patients who have had such scans without finding the gall bladder. I don't know what it means.
It is interesting to see someone else mentioned having surgery for an ovarian cyst, since I had surgery for ovarian cancer about 15 years ago. I have a scar that runs from my pelvic bone up to my belly button. It stops about a 1/2 inch from my bb. I've never had this pain before, though I have always been incredibly sensitive in my bb. My stomach is also pretty bloated right now. I can't imagine it's a hernia since nothing is pushing out.
I was not prepared nor informed about how much pain i would be in after the surgery. Yesterday after the procedure i was OK, but as night fell OH MY GOD! I have only had cat naps and that is just out of exhaustion. I was in so much pain last night even after taking the pain medicine like its candy. I could not get into bed last night and had to lay on the couch. I had to go to the bathroom but i couldn't get up I was in so much pain.
I was telling my husband about it and he looked at me like i was nuts..lol. I notice after it happens i feel like i have to urinate and after i do it goes away for a bit. So i thought it might have something to do with my bladder. Has anyone else experienced that?
After an examination he told me there were no eggs in the ovaries, but that I would have a bleed because of the removal and then expect a period after a month. I went away, had my period a month later, another 1 after about 3 months and my last one in June. I have just been back to him, because I have been feeling so tired, experiencing low abdominal pains and a general feeling of unwell. The examination revealed again no eggs and the blood tests show that at 42 I am going into menopause.
i never had problems before until after the surgery. either the cut in the belly opened up again after scratching it or it didn't heal well, i am a big girl and that doesn't help matters either. i am sure it will heal one day all the way, but YES it is not very pleasant.
Neosporin with pain relief helps quite a bit. I too had endometriosis prior to my hysterectomy and ovarian cysts, but I have no idea if there is a correlation. I can tell you that many of my family members suffer from cysts (both men and women) and my mom was able to alleviate a lot of it by using perfume/dye free soaps for showering and washing her clothes. She also quite wearing perfume.
I have been having the same problem for a month, I thought it was because I very seldom wear any underwear. But after a couple weeks of trying not wear them no changes; I am still wondering if maybe I am allergic to my razor and gel. I tear all the time and the itching in almost everyday out of the blue it will itch so bad and I know I can't itch cause then I just tear and then bleed and then it just hurts more.
Do you have issues with eating and having to run to the bathroom right after? You may want them to check you on that. I had mine removed over 2yrs ago, and had a sharp stabbing pain under my right side ribcage and that is what they told me it was. Also, take into consideration that it's possible if you have lifted anything lately that sometimes, we bruise whats called like the skeletal tissue in our ribcages. I had that happen once, but it only hurt when I breathed in. Hope that helped.
it is painful to urinate after sex, and sometimes, i have prolonged discharge, say for over 24 hours, after sex. it's not the regular kind of discharge, it's watery and carries an odor. i am quite embarrased by all of this, but am searching for the cause. my last gynocologist said that i should use this cream to ease my discomfort. sometimes it helps, but the effects don't last very long. symptoms disappear after 24-36 hours. does anyone else have this discharge?
I too came down with the same symptoms as you after what started like a flu type illness, turning into a migraine... I've had headaches/head pains, ear fullness, stiff neck as well continuing for the past 2 months. CT Scan, MRI and allergy tests have shown nothing. I asked my doctor if it could be a virus going around, and he says no. Asprins, allergy meds and antibiotics have not helped. When and if I find something that helps, I will post.
