Otc prevacid for children

Common Questions and Answers about Otc prevacid for children

prevacid

I'm actually making myself feel sick inside over it, because of course, when I do a search for thin stools, Colon Cancer is the very first thing that pops up. I should state that I did recently stop taking Omeprazole (otc Prilosec) and started on prevacid...all about a month or so ago. My diet hasn't really changed, other than maybe adding a little bit more vegetables to my daily intake...but not enough that I would think it could cause a difference in my stool size.
We have seen 4 doctors. She has taken anti-histomine for several weeks, prevacid for 3 months. No help. otc cough medicines do nothing. The only thing that seems to reduce the tickle is a little is vicks vapor rub under her nose. An ear-nose-throat doctor put a camera up her nose and down her throat and said that everything looks normal; her voice box was a little red probably from coughing. She was tested for asthma and inhalent allergies by a pediatric asthma/allergy specialist.
PLEASE keep in mind that these are all just ideas. What works for one may not work for the other. children probably wont grow out of asthma but lets hope they will. Medicine is meant to HELP not prevent or eliminate asthma.
First was on Pepcid which stopped working after 2 weeks, then onto Prilosec for a week which did nothing, now I'm on prevacid 30mg for the past 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. In fact I feel worse. I will see dr in 2 days, but don't know what to ask for. More tests? Did they miss a gallstone? Do I need a different med - like Nexium or aciphex? I was told it may take a few months for these to work, but I'm getting horribly depressed and scared something is terribly wrong.
He's gained nearly two pounds back so far though, so thank goodness for that. While I had him at the pedi for the stomach bug issue, I asked the doctor about Greydon. He has been coughing consistently since getting croup back in February. He'd have a dry cough infrequently during the day for a few days at a time, then go a few days hardly coughing at all. However, every single stinkin' night, he hacks all night long, waking himself and us. All...night...long. Every night.
The acid reflux has been so bad since about my 6th week of pregnancy that I'm pretty certain I will have no additional children. I called my ob/gyn and he was fine with me taking prevacid or prilosec otc. When I saw him, he went ahead and prescribed Nexium. Nexium is a Category B drug. I'm taking it and it helps tremendously, but it does make me a little scared because I'm taking it during the 1st trimester and will probably continue to take it the whole time.
I have a 9 year old (12/15/98) who has been dealing with reflux since birth. Recently we have had to switch from prevacid to Prilosec otc. Our insurance will only cover 20% od the prevacid but 100% of the Prilosec. Gary also has asthma, allergies, low tone, & Asperger's Syndrome. We have frequent flier miles at the ped and the ER.
During the transition, there is a period where you continue the zantac while waiting for the prevacid to build up in the system. Then you wean off of zantac. We couldn't wean her off the zantac. On both, she was OK. As soon as we dropped the amount of zantac, there were horrible flair-ups. I cried along with the screaming baby. The pediatrician had never had a baby that didn't respond to the standard doses of these meds, so he referred us to a Gastro.
I was going to go with an otc H2 blocker to take as-needed, but I guess I won't now. I'll stick with Maalox. Anyway, there will be some prevacid left in my system for a while, I suppose. Will the Klonopin react with that to make me ill, or is this more of a long-term thing? My mind is a powerful force, indeed...at once my best ally and my worst enemy. It will be very, very difficult to forget about the possibility that I'll get ill.
I had to try a few prescription proton pump inhibitors before I found one that gave me 24 relief. For me it's 30mg of prevacid. The other posters are correct that esophageal damage can cause cancer. It can also affect your ability to swallow. Reflux can also make you hoarse! -- I had an endoscope (for upper GI exam) and it was VERY easy! You are given an IV sedative. I feel asleep immediately and do NOT have any memory of the procedure! I slept through it!!!!!!
Cash is on prevacid, but it is the kind specifically made for children. It is a tablet that melts in water or on the tongue. He takes a half of one a day, and I can only get it with a prescription. For 15 pills it's $30 with my insurance, so I (kinda) feel your pain. But my insurance covers it bc you can only get it with a prescription. I didn't know they made an over the counter kind for kids, or is the adult one the same you just give a lower dose to kids? Just wondering.
Forgot to mention, I also have GERD and hietal hernia which I've had since the early 90's and now take prevacid or Prilosec otc if I'm out of prevacid of course I have to take it at least every other day or that'll become a major problem.
I'm 23 and for awhile (I don't remember exactly when it started) I've had bad heartburn and burping every single day. The heartburn is very uncomfortable and feels like a ton of pressure in my chest and sometimes feels almost like i can feel it around my heart (not really sure how to explain that). The burping has gradually gotten worse. It used to only happen sometimes and not last very long but now it happens every single day for the majority of the day.
Lyrica did zilch for me except the side effects, I liked excedrin still do, but max dose for a year and I'll probably be taking prevacid or nexium for life? Prospero, I liked the way you said it! I've tried tons of herbs, I can't stand that much alcohol anymore, and it don't mix with tylenol. Just lookin for some help, and although addiction can be terrible, so can pain be. My doc said, chances of me getting addicted were reduced cuz of the reason to take them was mass pain?
After having two upper endoscopys done they said I had a hiatal hernia and put me on prevacid. The prevacid did nothing for me. I still take the prevacid but the doctor also put me on paxil and 2 days later the lump in my throat was gone and I have never had a problem since! and that was in 1997. The paxil made me commer and in turn helped the acid in my stomach from coming up into my throat. I didn't even know I wasn't comm.
They want me on prilosec otc for a month first.. My GI doc gave me 5 weeks of prevacid so maybe I will be OK for a month after that. Have you ever had a gastric emptying study....he swears my pain has somethnig to do with my gastropasesis.....I don;t know. Just a thought it the cardiac stuff doesn't show anything.
soy protein so he was on a prescription formula called Neocate for the longest time. He then went to an otc hypallergenic formula. We did a trial of regular milk for about 7 months started around the age of 3 1/2. but then discovered that was causing IBS and uncontrollable bm's! He's lactose intollerant. He's now 4 1/2.
Ask your pharmacist if you can take some prilosec(otc) for a month and see if that helps ( I would reccommend prevacid, but that is not otc). Also analyze your diet and physical activity. Eat fiber, whole wheat bread, lean chicken, fish, olive oil, and purified water. Stay away from gaseous beverages, sodas, fats, fried food, fast food, high fat dairy products, trans fat, spicy foods and especially hot food / hot peppers , mexican food (chile), italian (tomato), etc. Also avoid stress.
They put me on prevacid which worked again, for about a year. The another doctor had to put me on some meds that rendered the prevacid useless, and it never worked again. I still get the itch, it's not as bad as it often was, but it is still chronic, with only occasional time without it. and sometimes it is so bad and I cough so hard I get nauseous and even vomit at times. At those times my throat ends up sore. I use cough meds and ibuprofen overnight, sometimes a codein med.
(Now I'm told that was a mistake to have me go off prevacid.) Then I followed a meat, vege, fruit diet for about 2 weeks, followed by adding other foods back one at a time to find out which foods bothered me. During the meat, vege, fruit diet I had no digestive problems. As I added foods back in I found which ones caused heartburn. So, I thought I could control my digestive problems through diet and occasional otc tagamet and Tums, until this summer when I got so stressed about the biopsy.
I am in my early 40's and have a serious problem that is holding up several life decisions (marriage, children, etc..) In the late 90's I was diagnosed with GERD and have been taking prevacid (15 MG every other day) to control it. Otherwise I am very healthy. Several years before this I had entered a relationship I am still involved in which there was never a problem with sex. We have always had unprotected sex as she is latex sensitve.
both were negative. they gave me prevacid to take..i've been taking it for 4 days and no change. does that eliminate any of your theories or would the blood work not detect the bacteria that your talking about? a coworker told me it could be acid refulx? but i dont have heartburn..just nausea.. also, with the diet that you suggested...im not sure i understand, do i want to be bloated? because you said if bloating improves? thanks again for the reply.
It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it. The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after.
Diagnosed with GERD, Hiatal Hernia and Mild Gastritis. prevacid helps acid but does nothing for burping. Have had gas pains bad enough that feel like a heart attack. MD and Gastro MD both pretty useless on this issue. Have cut out ALL caffeine and try to limit meal size. Carbonated beverages like champagne are like having a death wish . . . will not touch them again. Very frustrating that after endoscopy, colonscopy and various medical consultations no more insights from physicians.
I am by no means, no expert, but it sounds to me like if he really is addicted to it, then just maybe his body has relied on the excedrine for so long to keep headaches away, that when he doesnt take it, it throws his body automatically into a headache cause his body doesnt know what to do without it. The only cure for that is just time.
Hi Jerzy - I have similar pain for the past 2 months (and also have been predominately vegetarian for the past 20 years) as do lots of us in another threaded discussion here (see "Upper Left Quadrant Pain" below). It's very frustrating, and also scary living with the pain, but as long as your tests keep coming back okay, keep pushing them (the Drs.) to look further if you can.
I had the same uncontrollable belching (still do when I go off the diet) I take prevacid 30mg 2x for GERD & my breath test came back positive for SIBO which I was but on Xifaxan a special antibiotic that only works in the intestine for 7 days. I take a probiotic and eat yogurt. That helped for awhile but the belching came back. Finally, I took a gastric emptying test -- eating irradiated eggs to see how long it took my stomach to digest them.
I had an abd CT which showed a slightly enlarged pancreas but was told that was probably normal for my age. I was but on prevacid and told to see what happens. I still complained of severe pain do I had an EGD. All was normal. I then had an ERCP done and while no obstruction was noted I did end up with pancreatitis and was in the hospital for 5 days. The 'pancreatitis' pain has now resolved but my original pain remains.
I found the above topic last night at this same forum, though its dated 6 yrs back and I couldnt find anything more recent as I was searching for an answer to my own problem of the foulest burps that ever existed, then comes the diarhea and finally the vomitting. For me this can last up to two or three days. I was so relieved to find that other people have and are experiencing these same symptoms.
I am completely disgusted, frustrated and depressed. I have had a chronic cough for 10 months. I have seen 7 doctors including family GP, Pulmonologist, Allergist and ENT. Each one I have gone to has diagnosed me with whatever there specialty happens to be. I have had X-rays, CT scans, spirometry tests, methylcolene challenge test. I have been give 4 different antibiotics, the latest being Ciporil. Collectively the doctors have ruled out, asthma, allergies, lung problems.
