Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
529224 tn?1400648219 ) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.

Avatar f tn I have not heard anything about a new procedure but I did hear that there is a new pain medication called Nucynta (Tapentadol) which is a mu-opiod agonist analgesic. It is structurally similar to Tramadol.
587778 tn?1261397118 It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
1508881 tn?1313114901 Like I just walked miles or something. I went to a Rhuemy who told me that I just had osteoarthritis, runners knee and she had no idea why my hands hurt. She didn't do blood work and I was in the office for probably 10 minutes. I'm currently seeing a pain doctor who is treating me for my spine problems. I also have really bad fatigue. I sleep 8 hours a night every night but I wake up feeling just as tired as I did when I went to sleep.
1176578 tn?1263753089 I am a 48 year old female who was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (left knee) nearly 10 years ago. After multiple tries on NSAIDS which made me ill, my orthopaedic surgeon settled on pain management (narcotic) which I have been taking for the past six years. While not an ideal situation, I follow my prescription to the letter, never taking more than prescribed. Over the past year I began to experience joint stiffness in the mornings.
1175033 tn?1492201228 s not high impact - no jumping or long distance running, for example. You can walk, hike, bike, do low impact aerobic exercise, yoga (carefully - certain positions you'll want to avoid), tai chi, swim, light weight training, etc. You'll probably be told not to lift anything heavier than 20 or 30 pounds, and to be careful to avoid falls. After my hip surgeries, I think my toughest task was to remember not to cross my legs at the knee.
Avatar m tn knee osteoarthritis . Is electrical nerve stimulation(tens) an effective therapy for providing pain relief?
532065 tn?1213149801 ve always taken my Synthroid. I never miss taking my medication. Now I have osteoarthritis and it is rapiedly getting worse. In the past year my dr has lowered my dose from .125 daily to .112. Since then I have gained weight and the arthritis in my fingers is getting worse very rapidly and I am wondering if there is a link between the two. I know that the Hashimoto's disease affects my autoimmune system do you think that it can be making my arthritis worst.
Avatar m tn I'm 32 and I've never had any sort of leg, knee, or joint problem. Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. For a few days I could feel something move in the same knee when I would walk down stairs. It felt like it was located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. That went away. The right knee doesn't have any issues.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn My recent OS said 10 years for TKR and I only have one chance. I've also heard other OS say 15 to 20 or longer depending. I went to a siminar on joint replacement and it scared the heebe jeebe's out of me. The OS said if a 2nd TKR on the same knee is needed that more bone will be comprismed and the patient will experience much more pain with every replacement after the first.
Avatar f tn Get your knee ligaments checked along with quadriceps and hamstrings. The 6 knee ligaments which might get affected are the menisci, collaterals and cruciate ligaments. If you have chronic knee pain in both of your legs then rule out osteoarthritis or other joint problems like Rheumatoid arthritis and other systemic diseases. Go for an X-ray and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am recovering from a partial menisectomy of my lateral meniscus in my right knee, Although it went great and I am DELIGHTED to be back running again, I was recently informed that I lost 40-50 percent of my meniscus during surgery because it was so torn up. Does this mean that osteoarthritis is inevitable in my near future? I am only 16, and hope to be running as long as I can. :( Is it possible that osteoarthritis could end my pain-free life at age 30?
1069378 tn?1255215132 , but my knee never healed and in fact the pain has spread to other parts of my knee and my knee swells very easily when I do anything (upright, sitting, sleeping). The MRI shows that my lateral meniscus is torn again and x-rays show I have osteoarthritis. One of the orthopedic surgeons I saw suggested trying Synvisc injections before resorting to surgery, especially since the surgery will involve removing the rest of my lateral meniscus which will in turn worsen the osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Celebrex (200 mg a day) for about five years for bone on bone knee osteoarthritis. It has worked well for controlling my pain (not perfect but pretty good). I also get some lower back pain (combination of osteoarthritis and nerve stuff) that only happens when I over-do (like trying to garden, etc.). I typically need a day or two of Vicodin for that as the Celebrex does not seem to work for that.
Avatar m tn Osteosrthiritis and for right knee: F/S/O Osteoarthiritis. I am a 60 yr old male having Hypertension 130/90 weighing 93 kgs. I am practising yoga under an MBBS doctors supervision who primarily provide traction using props. The doctors there have advised not to cycle at all and also not to walk unless necessary. Is this the right advice? I need to reduce my weight. Can i use the cycle? since other orthopedic doctors i consulted have suggested that i should cycle.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine supplements are widely used for osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis. In osteoarthritis, cartilage -- the rubbery material that cushions joints -- becomes stiff and loses its elasticity. This makes the joint prone to damage and may lead to pain, swelling, loss of movement, and further deterioration.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.
