Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis vs fibromyalgia

osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
653169 tn?1303446369 I have done extensive research and I fit all the criteria. My doc is treating me for Fibromyalgia too, but I have had notable, visible joint damage in joints esp. in hands and feet that I didn't think fibro could do. My knuckles are enlarged and misshaped in hands and feet. I also have seperation of some of my toes. I also have degeneration in lumbar and hips My research agrees that I would have RA vs. Osteoarthritis. even though my orig. blood test for RA was negative.
Avatar f tn Hi, did we ever do this poll? If not, I'll try to revive it.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone, I was first diagnosed with a positive ANA for lupus. I've been seeing a Rheumatologist for almost 4 years now. They seem to think I have Fibro/Osteoarthritis. Currently, I'm on disability at the age of 40. I desire to return to work on a part time basis so that I can feel good about myself. Recently, my fiancée got a job in Chicago and I'm concerned if that move will make things worse. Any thoughts?

975514 tn?1324997938 I think I have been misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia. And I feel as though I am getting weaker and weaker lately. I need some opinions from the group because my doctor doesn't seem to want to help me. First, I have a strong family history of autoimmune disease including RA, Reactive Arthritis (my father), thyroid and diabetes. I have been diagnosed with DDD, degenerative facet disease, and facet osteoarthritis.

Avatar n tn htm There are many things that can cause the swelling ect that you are having but this is a general area to start getting checked. I take black cherry extract for my osteoarthritis and it works great for the swelling ect. I hope you get a diagnosis soon and get better quick. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I strongly suspect I have either arthritis, or osteo-arthritis, or fibromyalgia, does working under "cold" conditions like refrigeration affect what I have mentioned in my questions?
975514 tn?1324997938 ) I have almost everything up there except Lyme in my family. I suffer from DDD and Osteoarthritis of the spine and nerve damage as well as Fibro. My Thyroid numbers are also slightly off myself.

Avatar f tn Starting last fall, I began experiencing back spasms and a feeling of weakness in my legs. This occurred day after my first-ever yoga class. My primary physician said I probably overdid the stretches and triggered a muscle rebound (contracting) problem. An MRI of my back was taken, showing osteoarthritis (which I've known about for years). In fact I've suffered from sciatica before but that was years ago and I've been mostly pain-free since then.
Avatar n tn Unexplained pains, sometimes the bones paining and sometimes the muscles can be due to a problem called ‘fibromyalgia’. This is associated with fatigue and a heightened and painful response to gentle touch (allodynia). Other symptoms include needle-like tingling of the skin, nerve pain, muscle aches and spasms, weakness in the limbs, functional bowel disturbances, and chronic sleep disturbances.
Avatar f tn I know I am pre-diabetic, with fairly severe osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. I have a history of migraines (fairly well controlled now) and am overweight. I do have a job where I sit most of the time, but I've had such jobs in the past and never had edema like I'm having now. I'm tired, but who isn't?
897749 tn?1241760482 Hi! I need to know what a safe time would be between Oxycontin 10mg 4 times a day and Methadone 10 mg three times a day? My doctor wants me off the Oxycontin but I was afraid to change without a waiting period but I don't want to wait so long I can't walk. I have Osteoarthritis,Fibromyalgia as well as Osteoporosis to deal with.
Avatar m tn I have been told for 3 years I have Fibromyalgia along with osteoarthritis in many areas; osteoporosis (I have lost 2 and l/2 inches in 3 years; fracture mode; every medicine I had been put on has been problems and I have been taken off all for Fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, and arthritis. Now, my right eye is getting fuzzy, not every day, but more days all the time. My doctor has said although I need back surgery, be careful doing that because it will possibly make your fibromyalgia worse.
Avatar n tn It is painful to move as well as to the touch. I have a lot of osteoarthritis but was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last May, which explains much of the tenderness and discomfort in my muscles which recurs frequently. Unfortunately there aren't any actual "tests" to diagnose FM but rather a set of symptoms in a protocol of some kind. I see a pain specialist, initially for something else, but he was the one who explored and diagnosed the fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn I have those symptoms and my rheumatologist said they were due to my fibromyalgia. It is driving me crazy. Since he just considers it a nuisance I am hoping to get into my GP this week and look at something to help.
Avatar f tn One possibility is fibromyalgia. Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, Hashimotos thyroiditis, gout (can sometimes cause multiple joint pain), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, SLE, electrolyte disturbance particularly those involving calcium and magnesium, parathyroid gland problems, chondrocalcinosis and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean? This discussion is related to TSH declining .
Avatar n tn My Primary Care Physician suspects that I have Fibromyalgia, and I am not certain. I would like to go to a Dr. who deals regularly with this disease, to be able to know why I have so much pain throughout my body. I know of one Dr. that I heard about through a patient of his, I overheard her talking about her Fibromyalgia, and asked her who is her Dr. She told me Dr. Elliot Kopp, in Raleigh. I am just not sure who to go to, can you help with that?
Avatar f tn Hi... I was diagnosed with ostearthritis & fibromyalgia a few years ago...and have been taking mobic since then, which has worked. About a month ago, the mobic didn't seem to be working as well.. my hands were hurting a lot at work... so I went back to my dr & he changed my medicine to relafen for the osteoarthritis & lyrica for the fibromyalgia. Although the lyrica seems to work, I'm not liking the side effects, puffy hands & feet & eye twitching...
