Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Tbd I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, had partial mastectomy last May, on oral chemo with calcium and Vit D supplements. I already had osteoarthritis and am at the age for bone density loss. Oncologist recommended Prolia shot to combat bone density loss but insurance has denied due to not medically necessary. Also denied bone scan to check loss after treatment start and MRI to monitor pre cancer nodes remaining.

Why can't I take meds for rheumatoid,,why do I have to have joint damage. 2rheumatologist told me that the meds aren't made for my kind of arthritis. Now I say this, because most people take in calcium with their vitamin D. Milk, dairy, etc However, many supplements also include calcium with the Vitamin D. We've both been seeing a Naturopathic doc for the past couple of years, which we believe has been crucial. Hubby was told to stop taking everything. We do understand that they don't want anything to interfere with treatment, but we're very aware that most docs have little understanding or interest in vitamins/supplements.
