Avatar m tn My sister, 61 years old, has scoliosis and severe osteoarthritis in her lower back. She endures debilitating pain. Since she is an alcoholic, she is not a candidate for traditional pain killers or opioids. 1. Would Baclofen be a possible treatment for managing her pain? 2. Is it possible that Baclofen might have a secondary, off-label, benefit of being a possible treatment for the alcoholism?
Avatar f tn I have had some back pain in the past and recently had some lower back pains. Now my back keeps popping (never had this before), it doesn't really hurt when it pops but very uncomfortable. Sometimes I'm feeling a pain between my stomach and abdomen area.
Avatar f tn What would cause an 18 month old lower back pain? she has not fell or hit it on anything. Thank you!
Avatar m tn 54yr old female, have had this chronic lower back pain that radiates to hip area.I do have arthritis in lower back and hip,but the meds for it does nothing.I stretch every night before bed and every morning before getting out to no avail.I look like I'm 90 yrs old after a pain full ten minutes of trying to get out of bed.I have to inhale to stand up straight(omg the pain) but once I pee and get into kitchen for coffee I'm fine. The only doctor I haven't seen is a nerve doctor.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar n tn Often, pain in one set of joints, like your hips or knees, alters your gait to the point that it puts stress on other joints - knees, ankles, feet, lower back, etc. So if you had some kind of slight congenital deformity in your hip that went undiagnosed, over the the damage transmits to other joints. First of all, joint replacement is not as uncommon for folks our age as it used to be. I had my first hip replaced at age 37, the second at 40.
Avatar f tn I have osteoarthritis in my back and hips. The physiotherapist has given me exercises to help with the pain. Best thing is to keep active, if you can. Hopefully the ortho will help, and a rheumatologist, like I have seen, will help you cope with the arthritis.
Avatar n tn t bother me when i am sitting or laying down, but walking is excruciating and it radiates to the back of the thigh and the outside of the upper calf... what can this be? I am in pretty good physical condition, sixty seven years old and was exercising on a regular basis before surgery....
1282316 tn?1279565682 I have been recently having severe lower leg pain in my right leg, feels like the bone is broken but I know its not. My question is does Osteoarthritis cause this much pain?
3202871 tn?1352129777 ------------------------------------- Did you have another viral load drawn at 24 weeks after end of treatment, in late May or early June? And did that 24 weeks post end of treatment VL come back UND? I ask because I am basing my response on you attaining SVR. "How long will it take me to feel normal again??" --------------------------------- The time it takes to feel "normal" again varies from person to person.
Avatar f tn Four years ago I was dx with osteoarthritis of both knees. Dr. said that I was walking "bone on bone" and that eventually I'd probably need tkr in both knees. He advised using glucosamine chondroitin which I've done and for awhile it seemed to help. I was able to increase my exercise a bit and was walking more with less pain and swelling. In the past few months pain and swelling has increased which I attributed to less exercise and some weight gain, about 4 or 5 pounds.
Avatar n tn HI critterhappy, the only qualifications I have to answer you're question is that I too have osteoarthritis of the lower back and possibly hips...I can't say I've ever heard or felt any 'popping' in my back....this would to me indicated that something is out of alignment perhaps?...do you feel alot of pain when this happens? Does it feel to you as if some bones are rubbing on one another?
Avatar f tn Basically my jaw kept popping in and out of place more frequently since my second go at having braces, which finished up back a year ago or so but it's been getting progressively worse, notably since August I can't open my mouth properly anymore and no I haven't been diagnosed officially by a doctor, last time I went with two complaints, jaw and heart so she told me my heart one was more serious and ignored my jaw.
Avatar n tn (I have symptoms of a pinched nerve in the lower back and am in constant pain). Should I get another opinion? My specialist is pushing me to have surgery and I am only 60 years of age. I don't like the odds of success with these options.
Avatar f tn thank you, but believe it or not, my back does not hurt - my right leg is really painful!
Avatar m tn The wallet causing you to sit off center and the driving with your legs straight out forces you to pull on your lower back instead of pulling the seat closer using more of your knees than back might show you some relief. In 2001 I was looking at neck surgery with spinal degenerative disease. Also a Chiroprator had slightly ruptured a disk in the middle of my back and I had a developed a bone spur at the surgery area of my lower back. I was a mess. Now I need no surgery.

941625 tn?1263581782 I did six rounds of chemo and 33 radiation treatments. I have had chronic and horrible lower back pain ever since. I have been seeing a rheumatologist for this, and he found some arthritis and fused vertebraes. He says he's not sure why my back hurts though all the time and just keeps me on a low dose of percocet. The problem is it isn't managing my pain and I can't stand this. Does anyone else have chronic pain in this area following treatment?
1378884 tn?1315505845 It can be injected directly into a joint to ease pain and swelling, given in an intramuscular injection or taken orally to quiet an overall RA flare-up, inhaled to help asthma and COPD patients breathe better, and more. My mom takes injections in her lower back to temporarily ease pain. My guess is you have a low back injury that is irritating the sciatic nerve, which travels down the back of your hip and down your leg.
572823 tn?1217209089 These pilot studies of MSM have suggested some benefits, particularly for treatment of osteoarthritis. Further studies would be needed to test the usefulness of the chemical as a medical therapy. Osteoarthritis: After several reports that MSM helped arthritis in animal models, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study suggested that 1500 mg per day MSM (alone or in combination with glucosamine sulfate) was helpful in relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (Usha and Naidu 2004). Avatar n tn The strange thing is when it does get worse the pain always radiates up my back not down. In 10 years I have had 2 MRIs on my lower back and they always find nothing. I am a very active person stretching everyday (because of my lower back) and using an elliptical machine for 30min/ 3 times a week for 6 yrs around 480 calories each time. I also walk the dog for an hour each weekday and stretch during this walk.
Avatar f tn Can Penicillin VK (500mg) treat arthritis pain? Before you say, "no," please read further: I had a back molar crack/fracture. This tooth had a previous root canal so, while there was little pain directly from the tooth, an apparent infection set up. The dentist prescribed Penn VK (500mg) to treat it for five days prior to pulling it and another course of five days after the extraction.

Avatar m tn I've had back pain for over 3 years and haven't had much relive from anything. I have 3 bulging discs -2 upper 1 lower- degenerative disc disease, arthritis, pinched nerves to where it goes to my feet and makes them a little numb, my left are bothers me to where it gets weak and can't do certain things sometimes. They say it's from my back. Everyone says that it's not that bad. So if it's not that bad why have I been having pain for over 3 years.
Avatar f tn This happened day after doing jumping jacks, which caused me to suspect a pinched nerve in lower back. That resolved after a few weeks with anti-inflammatories, so I assumed the flare-up was caused by back problems associated with osteoarthritis. A few months later, this all returned with a vengance after taking a long car trip (12 hr drive) and again symptoms worsened. My neurologist did an EMG of lower extremities and that came back normal.
