osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn Hi there, There are several conditions which can cause one sided ankle swelling. A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
Avatar f tn Ankle fusion surgery is a procedure performed for the treatment of ankle arthritis. Here, worn out joint surfaces surgically removed. The ankle bones are then held together with metal implants, and the bone surfaces heal in this position. The joint is then permanently stiff after ankle fusion, but the result is usually a pain-free joint. Patient’s who are not been treated successfully with conservative measures are ideal candidates for ankle fusion.

2080404 tn?1643113754 yesterday i got an ankle brace to see if it would help support my ankles or the pain i wake up in. tried one brace to judge it's response and put it on my right ankle since that's the one i twist the most often and carefully applied pressure to it this morning. usually i wake up in severe pain and have to hold onto something nearby just to walk around, i'm hurting so much with every step.
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar f tn Can Penicillin VK (500mg) treat arthritis pain? Before you say, "no," please read further: I had a back molar crack/fracture. This tooth had a previous root canal so, while there was little pain directly from the tooth, an apparent infection set up. The dentist prescribed Penn VK (500mg) to treat it for five days prior to pulling it and another course of five days after the extraction.
Avatar f tn Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help. Surgery to insert stabilizing pins through the offending joint(s), thus fusing them, does internally what the brace is doing externally, allowing you to get rid of the brace. I had the pins put in my right foot and currently have the external brace on my left.

Avatar m tn For about a month I have had a redness on the lower right side of my right leg and ankle. There is NO pain, swelling or itching just the redness. My thoughts are that it could be from the shower cleaner spray that I had been using. I am a 63 year old male with osteoarthritis in the right hip. I have made an appointment to see a dermatologist but that is not until March 1st. Is it safe to wait another month for that appointment ? Thank you for your answers.
1263295 tn?1269927250 I read your profile, so it's your feet, correct? A lot depends on where in your feet you're having pain. Osteoarthritis of the hindfoot (the bones and joints between your heel and the front of your ankle) is not uncommon. It can be caused by normal wear and tear, or an undiagnosed deformity in the bones. One signal that the problem is in the hindfoot is that the majority of your pain happens when you rotate the foot laterally (side to side, like rolling your ankle).
