1175033 tn?1492201228 Sure you can do the hula! I've done hula on a couple vacations to Hawaii! ;) You can do just about anything you want as long as it's not high impact - no jumping or long distance running, for example. You can walk, hike, bike, do low impact aerobic exercise, yoga (carefully - certain positions you'll want to avoid), tai chi, swim, light weight training, etc. You'll probably be told not to lift anything heavier than 20 or 30 pounds, and to be careful to avoid falls.
Avatar f tn I need to lose 80 lbs. and have osteoarthritis. I've been on a low carb diet twice and both times the arthritis has flared and become quite painful. I think it's an excess of protein. How else can I lose weight? I can't stand being hungry and have good weight loss results with low carb. Help please!
Avatar n tn could be the weight causing extra pressure on your knees try losing alittle weight might help i know because ive put weight on myself
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
587778 tn?1261397118 My doctor sent me for an X-ray and it reveal mild osteoarthritis. Well, in the last week, the are between my patella and thigh began to hurt badly, along the outside of my knee hurts all the way up into my thigh, on the inside the tenderness has progressed, also on the inside of my knee midway up my inner thigh I have a severe line of pain that I can also palpate. My knee and thigh are noticeably larger than the other other one. I am in so much pain.
Avatar f tn Being overweight with more weight around the belly area, and high blood pressure, is also another risk factor to getting diabetes. You can minimise your risks by eating healthily and doing some form of exercise - walking is fine or any type of exercise that you enjoy. Exercising uses up energy and burns calories.
Avatar n tn t been able to give me any information about what I could have done to my knee. I have been focusing on rehab and losing weight but so far, no improvement. Anyone still think I tore my ACL or reinjured in some form or another?
Avatar n tn ( Is it possible that osteoarthritis could end my pain-free life at age 30?
Avatar m tn thanks alot thats weight off my mind still gunna get tested for peace of mind and for syphilis etc
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!

Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar f tn I am undergoing Physiotherapy(Traction) I take Traction at home my self on a regular basis as per the weight prescribed by the doctor. My question is this can I take traction on regular basis? Can you suggest the duration? Is there any side effect of Traction ?
Avatar m tn osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition. It is caused by the breakdown of cartilage and is often associated with aging. It can be assisted along the way by injuries. There is no cure for osteoarthritis. Treatments include NSAIDs and pain management, maintaining a normal weight and exercise.
Avatar m tn The other way is to lose weight if you are overweight, this will take off the weight off the weight bearing joint (the knee); apply cold compress if the joint is inflamed (I have been told to do that by my Triage physiotherapist); take pain relief as directed on the packet; anti-inflammatories, but take care with these because they can upset your stomach so follow the instructions on the packet and taking with or after food. Exercises to strength the muscles around the joint.
Avatar f tn I have suffered with migraine's and osteoarthritis of my neck for years. I saw a headache specialist for this on a regular basis. If I developed a migraine that lasted for more then a week I would see the Dr., who would prescribe a 'burst' to zap the headache. We always found that my headaches would respond to Methergine. I finally decided that because my headaches were under control and the triggers were identified ( inflammation and strain from neck ), I could turn my med.
Avatar f tn I once weighed 210. I now weigh 162. I have lost 48 lbs very slowly, but when I got this heavy manual labor job, it came off faster. The thing is, I've had to quit due to severe chronic pain. I am a 47 year old female with great blood pressure and glucose levels, but I have an emergency inhaler. I am desperately afraid of losing the ground I have gained in my weight loss. I don't want to be fat anymore.
