Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
2080404 tn?1643113754 yesterday i got an ankle brace to see if it would help support my ankles or the pain i wake up in. tried one brace to judge it's response and put it on my right ankle since that's the one i twist the most often and carefully applied pressure to it this morning. usually i wake up in severe pain and have to hold onto something nearby just to walk around, i'm hurting so much with every step.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar f tn Since there is swelling on one side this could be due to ligament tear or bony spur. Impingement of the ankle joint between the bones of ankle and foot is another possibility. Osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis are the other possibilities. Bursitis can give a sudden onset pain. Dislocation or rupture of a tendon can also cause shooting pain.
Avatar n tn Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar f tn Ankle fusion surgery is a procedure performed for the treatment of ankle arthritis. Here, worn out joint surfaces surgically removed. The ankle bones are then held together with metal implants, and the bone surfaces heal in this position. The joint is then permanently stiff after ankle fusion, but the result is usually a pain-free joint. Patient’s who are not been treated successfully with conservative measures are ideal candidates for ankle fusion.
Avatar f tn Mark Myerson at Mercy Medical Center can be a Synvisc ankle injection. I had to pay out-of-pocket for the injection since insurance will only cover for knees.
Avatar f tn What causes the majority of the pain is usually the side-to-side rotation of the foot/ankle, not so much the up/down motion of flexing and extending the foot. Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help.

1176578 tn?1263753089 As a result I am exhausted most of the time. The stiffness lasts for a couple of hours but comes back quickly if I sit in one position for any length of time. I have also begun to experience flaring pain in my left ankle, radiating to the outside upper portion of my foot. It is not swollen or red, just painful and does not allow me to put my full weight on it.
1248885 tn?1285832739 you may have injured the sural nerve, which is located on the outter part of the foot, ankle, and leg. have the doctor place you in a removable cast for a week or two to immobilize the ankle and calm things down. the swelling can also hyperstimulate the nerve and cause sharp pain. in the meantime, apply ice to the ankle and keep it compressed with ace bandages. lastly, elevate it every time you are sitting.

568812 tn?1379165794 Arthritis in the small bones of the hindfoot (under the ankle joint itself) could be causing the pain. You may not feel or hear any grinding, but if there is inflammation in those small joints, you'll feel it. Pregnancy can wreak havoc with your immune system, as a portion of it turns "off" while you're pregnant so your body doesn't reject the fetus as foreign tissue. After birth, when that part switching back "on", things can go a bit haywire.
1175033 tn?1492201228 I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. Avatar n tn Hello, The various possibilities for popping, clicking joints are a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing with the joint, arthrosis or degeneration of the joint and arthritis esp osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.More harmless is clicking of joints due to relatively lax joint capsules, that allows more than a usual amount of movement. Try stretching your joints if you don’t like cracking them as often and pls do stretches that stretch the ligaments around those joints.

Avatar m tn For about a month I have had a redness on the lower right side of my right leg and ankle. There is NO pain, swelling or itching just the redness. My thoughts are that it could be from the shower cleaner spray that I had been using. I am a 63 year old male with osteoarthritis in the right hip. I have made an appointment to see a dermatologist but that is not until March 1st. Is it safe to wait another month for that appointment ? Thank you for your answers.

1263295 tn?1269927250 Osteoarthritis of the hindfoot (the bones and joints between your heel and the front of your ankle) is not uncommon. It can be caused by normal wear and tear, or an undiagnosed deformity in the bones. One signal that the problem is in the hindfoot is that the majority of your pain happens when you rotate the foot laterally (side to side, like rolling your ankle).
Avatar f tn Okay so recently I was diagnosed with De Quervain's tenosynovitis in my right wrist AND Fibromyalgia. So I've been on Lyrica for almost a week and that seems to be helping a bit. However, I was on mobic for my wrist and that did not help at all so I had to get a cortisone shot in my wrist. It seemed to help, but the pain is already back and stronger than ever. Now I have a cold, wet feeling in my thumb.
Avatar m tn It also has burning feeling in different spots at different times. I;ve also had on both ankle and elbows spots that swell up, burn to the touch, hurt and turn red at times. My doctor doesn't know what it is or where to go.
657653 tn?1224680706 It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse. In some cases, degenerative arthritis may be hereditary.
Avatar n tn Rest to the part (ankle and knee), ice therapy, compression of ankle and knee joint to decrease swelling and finally elevation of the involved leg to decrease the swelling. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar f tn While some of what you describes sounds more like OA (pain in joints on one side is usually osteoarthritis) but with your other symptoms and the widespread pain on one side of your body, this is definitely worthy of investigation.
