Does this type of surgery prevent osteoarthritis from returning? Is this surgery safe? What is recovery like after surgery? Avatar f tn Although the combination of calcium plus vitamin D has only been shown to reduce fracture in a nursing home population, it is recommended that all people with osteoporosis initially be advised to take these dietary supplements. The benefits of additional calcium and vitamin D are highlighted with caregivers for people with osteoporosis residing in nursing facilities. Treatment is generally given twice daily with meals to optimize absorption.
Avatar f tn I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent. So, let me give you the facts that you probably already know, but they are important to repeat.
Avatar f tn All this leads to cartilage damage, inflammation and osteoarthritis. Hyperflexibility and hypermobility inturn would lead to arthritis and destruction of the joint. The classic diagnostic technique is with appropriate x-Rays and hip scoring tests. Treatment initially involves non-surgical approach.Non-surgical interventions include three elements: weight control, exercise control, and medication. Carprofen and meloxicam are the most commonly used NSAID's. Prednisolone can also be used.

Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!

Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar n tn I have had multiple tests due to many symptoms from CT of brain to MRI of neck. Doctor has explained to me results of all these they were all normal, except the MRI which she ordered and instead of explaining things to me she had her nurse explain things. And I will have to see a neurosurgeon soon. She didn't explain she just read the results and said osteoarthritis. I went to hospital to get a copy of results. This is what I received if you can help me awesome.
Avatar f tn Interventions lead to more interventions, epidurals increase the chances of needing an emergency c-sections, I would never judge a woman for getting one of they feel it's best for them if they can't cope, but I don't understand why a woman would go into labour with the idea of getting one...
