Avatar m tn Hi. I am not a doctor but have disk degeneration in my neck and what can cause thumbs to lock, feel pin prick pain etc, is your c6 and c7 area in your neck causing you issues. With your head on that slight angle looking down, I would think it is more of a referred pain. If it was repetitive injury, then why didn't it take the other thumb long to play up. It's more likely disc inflammation in your neck at those levels because your head is now being held on both sides for long periods.
Avatar n tn The pain is due to irritation or injury of nerves, pinching of nerves by tight neck muscles, compression of nerves as it leaves the spine secondary to osteoarthritis or tumors in the neck. Local inflammation or infection, gout, diabetes etc. you need to consult a neurologist who will do a detailed neurological examination, X-ray upper spine, eliciting tenderness over affected nerve, relief from pain after an anesthetic block will be needed to confirm diagnosis.
Avatar m tn There is no blood test for osteoarthritis. The blood tests are for various connective tissue disorders. Osteoarthritis can be diagnosed on clinical findings or when it shows up on xrays.
Avatar m tn Usually spurs form at facet joints, causing back or neck pain due to inflammation of facet joints and nerve irritation. EMG, NCV to exclude peripheral nerve compression, xray spine for arthritic changes and bone spur CT / MRI if any missed details on x rays.
Avatar n tn I'm virtually certain I don't have the rheumatoid(arthritis) One could develop/get it anytime(as I recall), & even osteo from rheumatoid, I suppose. I was diagnosed with osteo in '03 & show no egregious new symptoms which would suggest rheumatoid. If the opposite(were true), I'm certain my physician would've had me do the tests you recommend(ed) I know there's "no cure" for osteoarthritis, but inhibit acquiescing since I (appear to) have it.
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar n tn (( I have inflammation and searced google for ANTI INFLAMMATORY DIET and FOODS. Saw that there are a lot of foods that are considered proflammatory. It changed my way of eating. After reading all the foods that are proflammatory that I always thought were good for you, I wished I knew about it so many years ago. You know the saying: "You are what you eat?" Let me know what you find. I could use more choices of foods to eat.
Avatar f tn I have suffered with migraine's and osteoarthritis of my neck for years. I saw a headache specialist for this on a regular basis. If I developed a migraine that lasted for more then a week I would see the Dr., who would prescribe a 'burst' to zap the headache. We always found that my headaches would respond to Methergine. I finally decided that because my headaches were under control and the triggers were identified ( inflammation and strain from neck ), I could turn my med.
Avatar f tn Generalized osteoarthritis is yet another subset of osteoarthritis. Most people know the meaning of primary osteoarthritis or secondary osteoarthritis, but generalized osteoarthritis is a lesser known term. Answer: Subsets of Osteoarthritis Primary osteoarthritis is characterized by joint pain, stiffness, limited range of motion, and weakness. Primary osteoarthritis is also referred to as idiopathic, meaning, there is no known underlying or predisposing cause.
Avatar f tn Thus it is seen in fractures, ligament injuries, bone bruises (injury to bone without a fracture), synovitis (inflammation of the synovial membrane that lines the joints), osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, ischemia (decreased blood flow) and tumors. If you had a MRI of the shoulder joint, then probably ligament injuries and fractures are ruled out. Your PCP can run the basic tests like RA factor, ANA panel etc. Possibility of ischemia should be ruled out with MRA examination.
Avatar n tn they are abit tender and feel abit lumpy. my neck muscles also get v painful, and swollen i think. anyone have any ideas whaat this could be? my doc said she would do some muscle blood tests at some point. but i dont know what it could possibly be. its making my arms look really fat now though.
Avatar f tn Does osteoarthritis generally cause an elevated Sed Rate and and elevated C-Reactive Protein? Anyone have these tests elevated with your condition? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
1280306 tn?1271267786 Last spring I was suffering from neck pain that led to headaches. The neck pain had been there from the previous fall but not the headaches. Then I started feeling pressure in my forehead, went to the doctor they did a cat scan and I had a really bad sinus infection.Lasted for about 3 weeks, went to the ears for another two weeks and finally disappeared! A couple of days went by feeling pretty good then all of the sudden felt an extreme head pressure and a swelling in the side of neck!
Avatar f tn It helped the muscle pain, but I started throwing out my neck frequently. I threw out my neck 3 times in a 7 day span. I had an x-ray that came back normal, so they did an MRI. The doc said that I have arthritis and bone spurs in my neck. She made it seem like it was not a big deal and told me that it would get worse as I get older. I'm already in constant pain and it is affecting the quality of my life.
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar f tn hi, I have end stage osteoarthritis of the left shoulder along with bicep tendonitis. Had a atroscopic cap release last year had tons of rehap before and after. The last month i noticed extra stiffness tingling down the inside of my arm to my fingers along with increased pain just wondering what this could be very hardto sleep at night.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
Avatar n tn i'm 52 , a couple month ago my neck and my head just started to poo , crack , very discomfort , is there a name for this ? should i worry or tell my doctor ?
Avatar n tn Although I have had 2 surgeries on my cervical spine for ruptured discs and lax ligaments (am now fused from C3-C6), I am now told that I have significant osteoarthritis at C1-C2 (atlanto-axial joint) Accupuncture did relieve a lot of the associated muscle spasms but I still get bone pain sometimes even at the base of my skull. I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work.
Avatar n tn Lodine works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Lodine is used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain of osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis) and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to relieve pain in other situations.
1763947 tn?1334055319 About 30 seconds of air blowing on my neck is enough to trigger this inflammation and that means I have a killer headache for a week or more. I found out too late that lyme can do this. You fail to deposit calcium in the bones and instead it just gets dumped in lumps any old where. My mother has atrocious knees and osteoporosis (from lyme) and has big lumps of calcium, one on the top of her brain and another underneath her heart.
