Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis neck exercises

osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn You can mention this when you see your doctor as he may refer you to phsyiotherapy for neck exercises. But unfortunately there is no cure for this. As we get older the cartilage in between each vetebrae (bone) shrinks. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn ve only play a little and have used splints and exercises etc. I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis. I reviewed the radiologist notes on the xrays taken and he couldnt find an signs of arthritis. I am concerned that the Dr.'s diagnosis is wrong given that pain started in both thumbs on exactly the same day. Shouldn't the pain have started first in my dominant hand? How can a Dr.
Avatar n tn Although I have had 2 surgeries on my cervical spine for ruptured discs and lax ligaments (am now fused from C3-C6), I am now told that I have significant osteoarthritis at C1-C2 (atlanto-axial joint) Accupuncture did relieve a lot of the associated muscle spasms but I still get bone pain sometimes even at the base of my skull. I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work.
5536514 tn?1373500002 I am 65 and I am afraid my bones are falling apart. I have osteoarthritis. I also experience bone cracking in my neck. The same for my knees. I can almost tell when it's going to rain. The back pain starts as soon as I get up in the morning. After I have taken a muscle relaxer it is still there but only slightly. I do not want to become dependent on pill. I have hepc and cirrosis of the liver. Can you shed a little light on my problem.
Avatar n tn Base of skull and below neck bone pain (new since November ) so saw a Ortho spine doc. He took xrays and said C1-2 has arthritis badly. Did I have RA? Told me not to do any more range of motion exercises, just OTC meds for comfort and let him know if I get worse (?) Hmmmm. Decided to make appt with my PC to ask if I should see a Rheumotologist. I had a second ACDF for severe bones slippage back and forth from 'lax ligaments' and rupt. discs and am now fused from C3-C6.

Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of issues with my neck and back. My symptoms started when I was 22, 7 years ago. It started when I woke up one day and had this pressure on one side of my neck, right under the base of my skull and behind my ear. I had this constant feeling of needing to stretch or crack my neck all day. Well this feeling never went away. Eventually I got the pressure on the other side of my neck as well.
1088646 tn?1256949923 Basically massage your neck area very gently so as not to bring on a migraine or headache with opposite hand to opposite side of neck. So left hand massage right side of neck very gently and then do the other side. For your upper back put pillow on your bed. Place your upper back on the pillow so your head is hanging off the pillow. Arms out to the side. This gives you a good stretch through your chest and upper back. And do some gentle breathing.
20886884 tn?1568224960 Osteophyte is a big word for bone spur or more basically, a bony lump. They often grow next to joints that have osteoarthritis. They can cause a joint to become stiff and painful or they may actually not have any symptoms. Are you having pain and stiffness? You are more likely to have pain if they rub against another bone or spur or if they restrict movement or if they are close to nerves and impact them. If you have osteoarthritis, these develop more readily.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar f tn In May 2009 I woke up fine, about an hour later got extreme headache starting in neck and going up -could not think straight normal functions were hard to perform-got through day until early evening and about 2 or 3 pm my arms and legs began cramping so bad i could hardly move-fast forward-been to numerous doctors and clinics-no findings except definitely not autoimmune disorder-nerve damage in lower legs and feet comparitive to someone with diabetes-i do not have diabetes-since then i am only a
Avatar f tn As your blood tests for autoimmune disorders have come back negative and you are feeling dizzy when looking down and looking up, have you had your neck x-rayed? Osteoarthritis in the neck can cause these symptoms. Have you been involved in a car accident and suffered with whiplash at some point? Osteoarthritis is a degeneration of the bones and cartilage and this happens slowly over time and also if you have had any injuries.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of low impact exercises I can do that won't further cause my left knee pain. I am disabled because of osteoarthritis in my knees and spine. Thanks!
Avatar n tn After having a surgery to fix on particular problem that left me with a whole different problem I went to three other osteo docs. They all advised me to have hip replacement due to osteoarthritis, but I didn't want to do that without trying every other avenue. I recently had a 'live blood analysis' and discovered a tiny organism called 'mycoplasma arthritides' was responsible for my problem. I was told that a trauma like my surgery couild have triggered the organism.
Avatar n tn If i have muscle pain in about every muscle in my body , and I also have osteoarthritis all through my spine could this be from the ostesoarthritis or would it be something like muscle atrophy, and is there any thing that can be done for it. i am never pain free.
Avatar f tn Should I be concerned about this swelling. I have started some ROM exercises (had swelling before started ROM). Should I get PT? Does this suggest I may need surgery?
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
Avatar m tn My question is whether anyone can tell me if osteoarthritis in the lower spine can cause grabbing, debilitating pain that causes the patient to cry out it is so severe. These pains act like pinched nerves, but MRS and Neurological testing shows no nerve damage from the spine. The regular arthritis pain increases gradually when the patient is walking and prevents walking altogether after about 15 yards. The grabbing pain is additional to the regular pain. The only relief for the pain is sitting.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis in both knees and had surgery awhile ago. What can I do for exercise other than walking, which I do every day at work etc. Please help if you can, thank you.
Avatar f tn My husband keeps getting recurrent pain in his neck. He has had to go to the ER a few times and x-rays were normal. He went to the dr. yesterday and she gave him Flexeril and Ultram but they don't seem to help the pain. Tonight I put hot, wet washrags (making them hotter slowly) and after waiting about 15 minutes, rubbed ben-gay on his neck and shoulder muscles. He says 'if I could just crack my neck, I think it would feel allot better'.
