Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis meds

osteoarthritis

513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
398377 tn?1201534325 Some of them, yes. Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM found with the "people" meds are fine for dogs. Just make sure to check with your vet on dosages. There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
897749 tn?1241760482 Hi! I need to know what a safe time would be between Oxycontin 10mg 4 times a day and Methadone 10 mg three times a day? My doctor wants me off the Oxycontin but I was afraid to change without a waiting period but I don't want to wait so long I can't walk. I have Osteoarthritis,Fibromyalgia as well as Osteoporosis to deal with.
Avatar f tn Why are there new drugs to treat every arthritis known to mankind except osteoarthritis? I believe if drug companies really wanted to make some big bucks, and they ALL do, the baby boomers for next 30 years will make them very, very rich treating a massive number of aging baby boomers for osteoarthritis?
Avatar n tn In your case prescriptionn meds can be very helpful. Anti-inflammitories can really help the osteoarthritis and anti-depressants really impact on the Fibromalgia. I still have pain but manage to live with it. The anti-depressants stopped the massive and constant headaches from muscle spasms in my back. (Thank Goodness), Anti-inflammitories like Advil or prescription Celebrex calms down the pain around the joints.

Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn I'm thinking about getting radio frequency ablation on my knees for severe osteoarthritis. I'm in my 40s and not ready for total knee replacements yet. I've had a total of 3 surgeries, countless series of HA injection, got an ulcer from anti-inflammatory meds and don't want to be taking lots of prescription pain meds. Has anyone had this done on their knees? Any regrets? Thanks!
Avatar f tn was UND at week 4 First blood draw. I go back to the Dr. in Nov. for a for check up. I had osteoarthritis before I began treatment . It was hard some days others was pretty good. Now I am having pain in back and neck. I was sent by my primary Dr., for bone scan. He said it shows 4th 5th. 6th and neck vert. with swelling it bothers me daily. But it is now worse than it was like 5 years ago when I had previous bone scan.
Avatar f tn Hands are so painful and some fingers distorted, feel broke. Was told just a bad case of osteoarthritis. I can't even make a fist, my fingers don't bend. They get worse every year. Why can't I take meds for rheumatoid,,why do I have to have joint damage. 2rheumatologist told me that the meds aren't made for my kind of arthritis. Do you have to have the factor in order to be diagnosed with rh. My hands resemble rh hands. What's going on.?
1415174 tn?1453243103 X-rays are usually useless. They can show if you have osteoarthritis, but can't tell you if having that is the reason you hurt in a particular place. It can be maddening sometimes.

1663122 tn?1302843827 5/325 if I quit taking it 10 weeks before birth? I have been taking this medication for about 3 years due to severe Osteoarthritis. My OBGYN prescribes it for me but we talked about my baby being addicted if I keep taking my 3 pills per day right up until birth.
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
Avatar n tn My husband has had 2 heart attacks (7 stents) and chronic osteoarthritis. He abuses alcohol and takes percocets for pain. He has developed neuropathy and I believe it to be from the alcohol and opiate use. Does anyone have any suggestions for treating his osteo pain that doesn't involve opiate use or which will affect his heart meds? If given a healthier option for pain it would be easier for him to stop using the opiates.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
