Avatar m tn I have pain in the right knee for two years now. X-rays show lack of fluid in the knee. Thus giving lot of pain. I have tried all sorts of therapies, but to no effect. I am now thinking of either get a shot or replace the knees. The left knee is also on the brink. I have to use pain killers. Please advise about taking a shot if I should take a shot of Synvisc-One. This discussion is related to Changing from Supartz to Synvisc-One shots.
Avatar f tn I have not heard anything about a new procedure but I did hear that there is a new pain medication called Nucynta (Tapentadol) which is a mu-opiod agonist analgesic. It is structurally similar to Tramadol.
587778 tn?1261397118 You should have proper strong ligaments in your knee joint and I would suggest you to go for an MRI and confirm if the healing in your MCL was complete. Ligament damage can contribute to osteoarthritis further. I would suggest you to eat healthy and maintain proper body weight. Do not go for activities where you have to put pressure on your joint cartilages like running and jogging on hard surfaces or high intensity sports.
Avatar n tn they do hurt some even when I am standing or sitting, but not as bad as when i start to sit down. I have had 2 back surgeries..the last in 2004. I have gained about 30 pounds in the last year. I have never had knee problems, and am wondering if it could be coming from my back .
Avatar n tn MRI---all ligaments etc...are good. Had no problems with my knee until this fall in early January. I fell directly on my knee, tore pants and the skin off my knee. About 8 hours after the fall I went to do a complete squat (to the floor) and it took my breath away. I have difficulty kneeling on it and squatting and getting back up. Bending knee to put pants on is not comfortable.
Avatar n tn My knee and lower leg have been in pain for a few months now. I believe the pain is from jogging and putting too much pressure on my leg in general. It hurts mostly when I walk or put pressure on it. Resting my leg and taking naproxen and ibprofen to reduce inflammation does not seem to be healing it. Is it possible that this injury will require surgery? What should I do?
Avatar m tn sudsha One of the most common knee problems an Orthopedist sees in the office is a degenerative meniscus tear. A meniscus is a cushion inside your knee. It aids in stability of the knee and minimizing the stress across the knee, thus minimizing the risk of developing osteoarthritis. Meniscus tears are incredibly common. Although meniscus tears occur in all age groups, they are most common in adults over 50. There are many different types of meniscus tears.
Avatar m tn knee osteoarthritis . Is electrical nerve stimulation(tens) an effective therapy for providing pain relief?
Avatar m tn ve noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. For a few days I could feel something move in the same knee when I would walk down stairs. It felt like it was located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. That went away. The right knee doesn't have any issues. There is no pain, tenderness, or swelling involved at all. Does this sound like it could be osteoarthritis?
Avatar n tn I had an arthroscopic surgery in 2008 on my knee and the cleaned arthritis out of it.The doctor told me it would get worse and i took it lightly.I just found out i have osteoarthritis in both knee but my right knee is worse.I can barely walk and i work 12 hour shifts.Am i looking at surgery again because the cartilages are wearing away my rheumatologist told me.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn Since high school, after running track for 4 yrs, (7 yrs ago) I hav had knee pain. In the last couple of years it has gotten worse, radiating to my hip. It happens when I've been standing or walking too long, or if I'm cold. Could this be a trauma induced osteoarthritis?
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
Avatar n tn ( Is it possible that osteoarthritis could end my pain-free life at age 30?
15334891 tn?1439916367 I have a small meniscus tear in my left leg and orthopedic doctor give me a course of 15 days defla-16 steroid course(18mg/12mg/6mg) but pain still there, after that i took physical therapy and my pain is gone but during physical therapy my right leg weaken and knee joint aching and therapist also give therapy of right knee, aching in right knee is gone but weakness still there in right leg, meanwhile my left knee also weaken.
1069378 tn?1255215132 , but my knee never healed and in fact the pain has spread to other parts of my knee and my knee swells very easily when I do anything (upright, sitting, sleeping). The MRI shows that my lateral meniscus is torn again and x-rays show I have osteoarthritis. One of the orthopedic surgeons I saw suggested trying Synvisc injections before resorting to surgery, especially since the surgery will involve removing the rest of my lateral meniscus which will in turn worsen the osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Celebrex (200 mg a day) for about five years for bone on bone knee osteoarthritis. It has worked well for controlling my pain (not perfect but pretty good). I also get some lower back pain (combination of osteoarthritis and nerve stuff) that only happens when I over-do (like trying to garden, etc.). I typically need a day or two of Vicodin for that as the Celebrex does not seem to work for that.
Avatar n tn He is 55 years old, has history of seizues at night, but he is not taking his primidone because he had no episodes for long time now, he has high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes(his blood sugar is under control), severe osteoarthritis in left knee- needs knee replacement, arthritis in right foot, old left ankle/foot surgery in the past, lumbar stenosis with compression of the dural sac, and asthma(under control). This episodes of tremor has been happening for two days in a row.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine supplements are widely used for osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis. In osteoarthritis, cartilage -- the rubbery material that cushions joints -- becomes stiff and loses its elasticity. This makes the joint prone to damage and may lead to pain, swelling, loss of movement, and further deterioration.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.
2115734 tn?1334546847 For X number of months (where X can be 3, or 4, or 5 or maybe even 6), I have no physical pain in the RIGHT knee. When OA (osteoarthritis) physical pain starts under the kneecap of the RIGHT knee, I do quad sets for Y number of consecutive days (where Y can be 4, or 5, or 6 or 7 consecutive days) and the physical pain ends again for X number of months. I'd like to swim but know that with no external support around the RIGHT knee there's physical pain while swimming.
Avatar f tn What would cause a sudden loss of feeling in both legs? Has happened twice, once in 2008, and yesterday. Comes on in a split second, long enough to fall down, and feeling comes back almost instantly. Afterwards, my back muscles have a somewhat shaky or weak feeling for a few hours. Have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease.
Avatar n tn Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. Your symptom of pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Your other symptom of feeling of grinding and grating is characteristic of osteoarthritis. What is the quality of your pain (sharp, shooting, dull, etc.)?
