A Baker's Cyst also popped up last month at an also bad knee (torn ligaments never corrected).
I try to read more to get rid of stress and if its really bad I use a heating blanket on my neck and jaw. I have had acupuncture in my jaw as well as massage therapy inside the mouth. which doesnt feel good at all but it does help relax the muscles. Really though I cant express to you enough you need a mouth guard to start out with. You can also go see an orthopedic surgeon who will do xrays to see if there is any damage done.
I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
The pain is caused by irritation or injury to the nerves, which can be the result of trauma to the back of the head, pinching of the nerves by overly tight neck muscles or compression of the nerve as it leaves the spine due to osteoarthritis. Treatment usually includes physiotherapy of the neck, neck massage, local anesthetic or steroid nerve blocks and medications which are used for nerve related pain (e.g Neurontin).
In answer to your question, I had a MRI and bone scan, neck down, in 2005. They showed only mild osteoarthritis. My spine at the base of my neck has been sore for a few years. The spinal column feels compressed at that point. I'm thinking Cranial Sacral.
I also have fibromyalgia as well. I have the cracking in the neck, jaw, hips, ankles and my elbows. Sounds like you have osteoarthris also. Good luck to you!!
Last spring I was suffering from neck pain that led to headaches. The neck pain had been there from the previous fall but not the headaches. Then I started feeling pressure in my forehead, went to the doctor they did a cat scan and I had a really bad sinus infection.Lasted for about 3 weeks, went to the ears for another two weeks and finally disappeared! A couple of days went by feeling pretty good then all of the sudden felt an extreme head pressure and a swelling in the side of neck!
With me I think it is a salicylate sensitivity as I can't use orinary toiletries or cosmetics as they clamp up my jaw and make my neck muscles go into spasm. Don't use anything with herbal or plant extracts as these will make it worse if you have the same problem as I have.
Shoulder pain, Arm pain - both forearm and upperarm, fingers, Leg - both lower and upper and sometimes centered around the inside of my knee, stabbing pain in my chest (left side), tingling/numb sensation in my left and sometimes in my face and stabbing/shooting pain in my neck, the side and sometimes the back!!! Needless to say I have been so worried about this - have had every kind of cardiac test going and all were fine and ultrasound of my legs were fine and nothing shows up.
would significant breast reduction surgery be likely to reduce the pressure on my cervical osteoarthritis or the nerves in my neck and shoulder, and how would I go about getting it approved? A few years ago I inquired and did not qualify but I did not have all this pain then and now I do. Please please help me figure out what to do next. I am running out of options. I have a followup with my neurologist very soon.
This includes muscle spasms in the left scapular area radiating up into the left side of neck, jaw and face, then down the left arm and into my little finger and ring finger. In these areas I also have sensations of burning, coldness, tingling, sharp piercing shocks, and sensations of needles. I also have weakness in my left arm when I try to lift objects such as a book or coffee cup. The symptoms range in severity and come and go depending on what I'm doing.
Since then I am having trouble with pain in the neck and shoulder area just below the fusion area. I wake in the morning with a headache then turns to pain in lower neck and shoulders. I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back.

For about a week of that I suffered neck weakness but that resolved and I forgot about it until March. In March I still had residual dizziness and I was treated by a chiropractor with a very gentle technique (no thrusting or jarring movements). He tugged on my jaw a bit and tapped on my ear in order to coax my upper vertebras into better alignment.
My best friend showed signs of having a heart attack down to tingling in the left arm, jaw and neck pain, tightness in the chest. After 2 days in the hospital and numerous tests, she's being told that it looks like arthritis in her ribs is causing the muscles around her heart to spasm. How is this possible? She's confused. She doesn't have a computer so I'm researching for her.

Hi, I have osteoarthritis in my thumbs and index fingers, carpal tunnel in both wrists, arthritis in my neck and other areas of my back and my knees. But I am not diagnosed as having RA. It is possible that you just have the *wear and tear* arthritis in a lot of your joints. You're not too young, esp. if it runs in the family.

Not to mention that my back hurts (usually upper back) and I get pain in my neck and jaw. Again, it can be both sides, but mainly to the left. Right now, my left arm and hand is hurting. I get head pains...not an ache, but more like someone is sticking a nail in my head for a few seconds and then it disappears. I also get the feeling that my throat is closing up, but I can still breathe. I have these sharp, shooting pains in my stomach, but it's not all the time.
TMJ with osteoarthritis of the jaw joints and cervical spine. The other diagnosis is from a neurologist. Idiopathic facial pain - Central Nervous System disorder coming fro the brain as opposed to the spine. I have tried many medications, physio, acupuncture, chiro. I have been told it is not MS or Trigeminal Neuralgia even though a lot of my pain patterns seem to follow branches of the TN nerves or nucleus from brain, into tmj joint, face, teeth and nucleus at cervical spine.
For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
When they say normal, is the top part of your spine (the cervical area) and the jaw alignment normal, or did they find any osteoarthritis in the neck? That can cause uncomfortable sensations when you are going over bumps on the road. Have you had your eyes and ears checked out. Pressure in the ears, even from a wax build up can cause pain and unsteadiness. Vision problems can also occur from diabetes.

It is my busy season at work and I am getting the chest nervousness and discomfort as well as neck aches. Is this common with anxiety? Even though I am on 20 mg Paxil? Thanks.
later on that day i was experiencing pain by both of my temples... and by the bottom portion of my jaw, where i usually grind my teeth along with some numbness. The numbness subsided... and i thought nothing of it. I took ear drops for a few days and instilled them into both of my ears.
My lymph nodes, one in my neck and the other in my jaw, became very enlarged. It started out as a pain in my neck, which I had thought I had just slept on my neck wrong so I ignored it. Then the gland in my neck started growing, so I thought I was just getting sick. It just kept getting larger, then the one in my jaw ( under my ear) started getting bigger. They became very painful and very large. My grandmother finally got me to go to the hospital because she was worried.
The major issue I'm having at the moment is the popping in the wrists, shoulders, jaw, and neck (sometimes). Can inflammation causing popping? I've been getting about 6 1/2 hours a sleep at night, so one thing I'm about to change is trying to get more rest.
Back in April they x-rayed my neck and head and did MI's... and said the changes in my neck wouldnt be the cause of my headaches. I tend to disagree, I think that a fractured vertebrae, buldging disc and osteoarthritis is enough to give anyone a eadacheespeially as the day wears on and the longer one sits at the computer holding your head in one position all day. We will see what the neuro spinal surgeon has to say n a few weeks.
