Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have Osteoarthritis in finger joints. What do you do for pain and stiffness. Also what jobs do you do, I had to quit my job of 10 years, (doctor said so) looking for a job, but not sure what to do, any ideas. Going to start physical therapy soon.
209987 tn?1451935465 My mom says that her Osteoarthritis does NOT cause her hands to become red, hot, and swollen every morning. She says they become stiff, swollen, and painful. I just read elsewhere that her symptoms are typical of osteoarthritis...mine are not. In fact, the article said that red and hot are not signs of osteoarthritis at all, but they could be symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, major organs shutting down, allergies, etc. My doctor looked at my hands one day and said that I had osteoarthritis...
Avatar n tn i am a 54 yr. old woman. i have a condition that is causing my bath towels, wash cloths, hand towels and my bedsheets to appear to have been bleached-they literally lose color. this has been happening for decades on a much smaller scale wit h my clothing- usually bleaching around the front of my shirt collar. i thought that it was make-up that mixed with sweat. in the last 5 years it has gotten much worse.

Avatar f tn He is a handyman and i dont know if its just because he has used his hands so much in his life or if he has a bad case of arthritis. I am really worried about him does anyone know whats going on?
Avatar n tn well my hands swell up but it doesnt bother me i just feel them a little tight for more questions please contact me
Avatar n tn I am not sure but I guess your hands must be held in upward position for a long time. This reduces blood supply to the hands, leading to the symptoms. But, you also need to get a routine blood work done to see Hemoglobin and calcium levels. Low Hemoglobin level can cause symptoms of numbness and tingling when the hands are held in a position for a long time. Please let me know of any other problems related to this. Do you feel tired easily ? How is your breathing when you get the cramps ?
Avatar m tn I'm 74 y/o and have had osteoarthritis in my fingers of both hands for many years. Right hand ring finger swelled up at the middle knuckle with lots of pain when cutting things with a knife, shaking hands, unscrewing lids. The pain is on the sides of the knuckle, not the top, so that would seem to rule out a tendon problem. Ibuprofen or Tylenol don't seem to be of much help. Is there any procedure to relieve the pain, I'd rather not get into narcotic type pain meds?
Avatar f tn Think BIG MITTS without thumbs. Putt them in the dryer or add hot packs to them and slip your hands in when your hurting, the heat will help ease the aches Warm water aquatics is also a great therapy for osteoarthritis. Contact your local Arthritis Society and get into an education class for managing your life with Osteo. Its just one of the lousy things some of us get. Best of luck to you.
1459410 tn?1285695005 I have taken ibuprofen for weeks at a time in the past for the osteoarthritis in my jaws. I try to take it sparingly for it now. But I get frequent heartburn and was recently put on cytotec generic, which is supposed to help with stomach lining. I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis.
653169 tn?1303446369 My initial blood test showed negative for RA,but I have all the signs and symptoms and am an orthopedic nurse so I have alot of knowledge, but of course don't know everything. My niece has RA and her initial blood work also came back negative, then later positive. Has anyone else heard of RA blood test coming back negative, but patient was still found to be diagnosed with it. I have done extensive research and I fit all the criteria.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoarthritis in that joint with no cartilage remaining causing a bone spur to develop. This spur in turn is dislocating my thumb & why I have the bump. My surgeon said that it is very common on non dominant hands. I have psoriasis & believe I may hav psoriatic arthritis going on due to other symptoms- which you are also experiencing. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist to have that checked out.
Avatar n tn I have Osteoarthritis. I've had it for over 20 yeras. Its in my hands. I recently moved to the CSRA area of South Carolina. I have been to FOUR doctors here. They dont listen. They mess with my high blood pressure, my pain management, and Asperger's Syndrone medication. The results have been catastrophic. They want to try all kinds of things, and Im tired of it. I want to go back to the meds that WORK.
Avatar n tn I'm a 29 year old male. In 2006 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee after an exam by an Orthropedic Doctor. He is a very fine doctor and very smart. The problem is that now many joints are hurting. My knuckles (on fingers not on hands), my elbows and both of my knees are hurting. It's been going on for about a 3 days. My elbows just started hurting then. I have a family history of RA. My doctor told me that the knee he looked at was for sure Osteoarthritis.

Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar m tn Back in July 2013, I developed pain in both thumbs while playing my banjo. I had recently started new playing techniques on the banjo with both hands. I am 48 years old. I've been to a hand therapist and she believe it is some type of repetitive stress injury and since then I've only play a little and have used splints and exercises etc. I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn I have not heard anything about a new procedure but I did hear that there is a new pain medication called Nucynta (Tapentadol) which is a mu-opiod agonist analgesic. It is structurally similar to Tramadol.
