Osteoarthritis finger joints

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis finger joints

osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn If I knock on a door (normally, not hard) it feels like I just punched a cement wall. Both my ring finger knuckles have swelled to where I can not get my rings over them. It started aboutub 6 months ago and just progressively gets worse, I just noticed it happeneing in my right hand about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas what this could be?
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have Osteoarthritis in finger joints. What do you do for pain and stiffness. Also what jobs do you do, I had to quit my job of 10 years, (doctor said so) looking for a job, but not sure what to do, any ideas. Going to start physical therapy soon.
Avatar n tn Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar n tn I HAVE PROBLEMS IN THE MORNING IT ALL STARTED WHEN ONE FINGER WAS DOUBLED AND I HAD A HARD TIME TO GET IT MOVING BUT THERE WAS A SLIGHT BRUISE THERE. NOW BOTHH ARMA AND HANDS ARE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEN AND THE JOINTS SWELL UP AND I AM IN PAIN ALL DAY AND I HAVE TROUBLE WRITTING. WHAT COULD THIS BE.
Avatar n tn Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes stiffness and pain in the joints. Osteoarthritis involves growth of bone spurs and degeneration of cartilage at a joint. It is very common in adults older than 45 and can cause joint pain. Joint pain may also be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the bursae). The bursae are fluid-filled sacs that cushion and pad bony prominences, allowing muscles and tendons to move freely over the bone.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar n tn Similarly if you were prone for arthritis such as osteoarthritis, the period of inactivity could have aggravated the arthritis and hence swollen joints. There are various causes of multiple joint pains like osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic pathology, thyroid problems etc. Please consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this. There are no swollen joints associated with inactivity alone as the cause. However inactivity aggravates an existing joint condition like arthritis.
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm 49 years old and relatively active. I play golf on a regular basis and try to exercise at least a couple times per week. I have not had any other serious medical problems. Over the last couple months I've developed pain in my feet and hands. It started in my feet with the balls of my feet aching and feeling "weak". Not sure if weak is the right term, but they just didn't feel normal. Pain is not severe, but has not gone away.
Avatar f tn It all started with a pain in my wrist which I thought was from doing too many bicep curls. It has been getting much worse. By my pointer finger knuckle on both hands it is swollen. In most parts of my body I have tender joints. My ribs evn grind and Crack sometimes. Weird feeling! Been to rheumatologist most ecently and had blood work done and everything came back normal. He gave me prednisone about a month and a half ago and it helped for a short while.
Avatar n tn Hi! The uric acid is within normal range so gout is more or less ruled out. Normally C reactive protein is undetectable in blood. A level between 1-3 shows moderate risk and a level above 3 shows increased risk for heart problems, infection, inflammation, dental problem, arthritis, cancers etc. A high C-Reactive protein should be evaluated ASAP. RA factor is normal so rheumatoid is more or less ruled out. High ANA could be non-specific or may be due to an autoimmune disease.
Avatar m tn went to my doc twice in this time first when it was one joint he said it was osteoarthritis, went back the following time and he said the same ,told i couldnt beleive 3 joints had worn out at the same time. plus at times i had twinges of pain in other joints in the hand he took bloods to check for RA all bloods came back as perfectly normal he checked for b27 gene which was neg, i had IRITIS in left eye about 7 years ago on and off for 8 months never came back.
454606 tn?1361925680 What I seem to have is a joint issue that began with my knees sub-locating in my sleep, but I am now experiencing a similar pain in my shoulders, elbows, and finger joints. I don't spend much time of the computer anymore, but the slightest thing can cause aggravation that lasts for days, even weeks, and never totally goes away. I now get help with dressing and bathing because the motion of putting on a shirt can make things worse. Can joint pain be caused by a neurological issue?
Avatar m tn My doctor came into the room, tested me for CT, and aftering determining I didn't have carpal tunnel told me I had RSI, wrote a presciption for Diclofenac and left. It took him all of five minutes and I didn't even get to finish telling him what was wrong. My finger joints are stiff sometimes, from typing and my wrist is tight/stiff. When I flex, I can feel a numb pain (not numbness as in can't feel) move along the back of my hand, in the pattern of my veins.
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis.Cause of osteorthritis is unknown. Pathphysiology of both is different.also mode of treatment for both is different. Moreover any relationship between the two has not been proved. Avatar m tn i fractured it at the first bendable part next to the finger nail. my doctor said it healed but it healed a little to the side. he said theres a possibility i will have arthritis 10-15 years from now. he was trying to push surgery on me. like REALLY trying to push surgery on me. now my question do a really have a high chance of developing arthritis so early? my break looks similar to this http://farm1.static.flickr.com/51/134036609_8b4f9ebd13.jpg?
Avatar m tn It sounds like the doctors have ruled out the standard reasons for joint problems, like RA or gout. Your description of sand feeling in your joints is a symptom of osteoarthritis. Perhaps you're not old enough for the tests to show yet and it's the beginning of arthritis? I would try surfing for information on "benign crepitus" which is what they call what you have without a diagnosis. I understand working on one's health to reduce inflammation has helped some people.
Avatar m tn 50years old man not aware of any medical problems complains of pain related to his joints in different places ( fingers, knee, foot ankle) it takes 2 weeks relief by ibuprofen and voltaren emulgel so the question is what is your recommendation about this case ? do you advice of some vitamins especially that he is getting older?
Avatar n tn It can be osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or even reactive arthritis. You would need some tests and X-rays of the joints to diagnose this. The pain in the joints can also be due to overweight, hypothyroidism and diabetes. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult yur orthopedic specialist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
